With just under two weeks until Hearts - the debut album by Stockholm's I Break Horses - is released, a video for the blissful album opener 'Winter Beats' has been revealed. In keeping with the duo's semi-anonymous profile, the clip is stark and hypnotic - using impressive time lapse photography intertwined with exploding speakers and flaming cymbals to create a visual treat. Hearts is released via Bella Union on August 22 . Read the world's first interview with I Break Horses from just a few months [...]

Check out the new Alex Southam-directed video for I Break Horses ' single "Winter Beats", which I can guarantee you is not rhythmically exclusive to any season. The duo's debut full-length, Hearts , drops August 23rd via Bella Union . (via P4K)
I Break Horses make a musical collage of breathy vocals, alternating drums, pedaling bass, and fuzzed-out synth that make them more than just a one-trick pony.

The debut album of Swedish duo I Break Horses has been on constant rotation here in the One Thirty BPM office ahead of its release. The album's splendorous opening track and lead single "Winter Beats" has now been giventhe video treatment. The video is black and white and features several clean and starkly interesting shots of inanimate objects on fire. Here comes another Swedish duo that will simply swell your ears...in a good way of course. I Break Horses, the duo of Maria Lindén and Fredrik Balck, has a debut album in Hearts that is majestic... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]
A lot of the time, if someone describes something as "explosive" the mean it metaphorically. That is totally not the case with the video for I Break Horses' ramshackle and maximalist "Winter Beats": A whole lot of this gets blown up here, from cow skulls, to the sky, to plants, to dirt in a bucket. I guess it shows the temporal nature of life in all forms? But it's also a seven-year-old's greatest wish fulfilled. So by that measure, this video is fantastic. [ P4K ]

It's always funny and ironic how a site with the name "We're Not Broken" seems to always be BROKEN . I figured it was because I haven't updated my WordPress in a long, long time. So last night I backed up everything in order to fix these issues. My site also had problems working on other web browsers because of broken codes and mainly issues that Internet Explorer has failed to yet explore. But I always have a back-up plan and now the site works properly on all browsers and thankfully, everything looks neat and [...]
I Break Horses - Hearts from Bella Union on Vimeo . Right from the get go, a thumping, muted heartbeat sets the electricity of "Hearts". An immediate thought that comes to mind is, "Ok, what kind of journey am I going to go on?" The heartbeat is loud and prominent, which makes listeners alert. A profuse guitar is then introduced, along with hushed whispers. And then, a dissonant guitar emerges, reminding me of the same tension I have when I listen to My Bloody Valentine. The occurring theme that is noticed is melody vs. noise. Maria [...]
Monday, August 1, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: Last night's Joanna Newsom show was great (as it always is), but I have to admit I'm more excited to see her do an ACL taping tonight. That new venue is spectacular, and I can only imagine she'll sound magical in there. Five songs to help you forget it's already August. Enjoy. : I Break Horses - Winter Beats : If you pick just one track from today's post to pour over with [...]

I Break Horses keeps showing up on my liked and most played playlists after several introductions around the web as featured new music. So, I decided to share this track. Out of Stockholm, I Break Horses is Maria Lindén and Fredrik Balck. Winter Beats is definitely a slow build, a chilly shoegaze track. I love this stuff this time of year - just enough fuzz teamed with space and synth around vocals and calming layers of noise that are perfect for being lazy on a summer afternoon (indoors). [...]

Because winter deserves its share of beats too. But I'd hardly argue that these are winter beats. We've posted I Break Horses before and I always like Swedish music, so I knew I'd probably dig this song. Parts of this song remind me equally of Chemical Brothers' "Asleep From Day" and the happy place in Happy Gilmore. I Break Horses - Winter Beats

Even by band standards, Extra Happy Ghost!!! is a pretty weird name - it is what it is though, and what it is, is the name of a Calgary based indie pop group who's debut full length, Modern Horses, consists of short, sharp, joyously simple, sparse and satisfying songs. Clocking in at just 30 minutes, the nine song record feels like it's over as soon as it's started, such is its ability to transport the listener off in a hazy daze with its stripped down and melodically rich songs. [...]

One of our favorite, and most eclectic bands here in Cincinnati in recent years has to be The Chocolate Horse . It seems they are always finding new sounds and ways to express themselves musically. The band is made up of several musicians that are veterans of the local scene and have already put out two great albums since forming back in 2003. The albums, Patience Works! and We Don't Stand on Ceremony saw the band building new elements and deconstructing others while carving out a really nice niche for themselves through the midwest, and of [...]

Extra Happy Ghost!!! is an experimental pop group from Calgary, Canada, originally started by Matthew Swann in 2008 as an outlet for the murky, psychedelic sounds he was hearing in his head. Three years and some well received EPs and singles later, the band's debut album is here: named after nine horses that panicked and jumped off a Calgary bridge in 2005. Nine horses for nine lo-fi, guitar based, garage tracks, chock full of echoing paranoia and existential anxiety, and imbued with enough tension to match the jittery equines. Track one, 'Mercy, Mercy', is very good, which ironically is why it's [...]

There must be something in the water here in Philadelphia that is nurturing the recent wave of retro sounding classic Americana-influenced acts like The War on Drugs and Kurt Vile . Or maybe it's just six degrees of jamming. Following in the footsteps of the previously mentioned artists are a relatively new band on the local music scene, Tin Horses . The group started out as a side project of Kiel Everett, bassist for psychedelic noise rock outfit Purling Hiss , as an outlet for his more country roots-rock side as a musician. Tin Horses [...]

We are still playing a tid bit of catsup here, but this is a way rad drop from this week! Stockholm twofer I Break Horses rlsd another track from their upcoming LP Hearts. The blissed out hazy popster's new tune is more on page with twinkling synths and and a bigger driving sounds then the fuzzy goodness of Hearts, but we can still get down. Variety is the spice of life. Check it. I Break Horses , Hearts , Aug 15 Via Bella Union I [...]
"I break horses / Doesn't take me long / Just a few well-placed words / And their wandering hearts are gone." — Smog It's unclear whether Stockholm band I Break Horses is named after the aforementioned Smog song or simply the metaphor of training a wild animal. What is clear is that like the Bill Callahan-penned track, the music of Maria Lindén and Fredrik Balck is fiercely heartbreaking. While Callahan strikes with words, this Swedish duo's weapon of choice is a dense sonic blanket of swirling keyboards and synths, thick gain-fueled guitars, and heavy crashing [...]

Facebook / http://www.ibreakhorses.se/ The blog is in danger of being overran by Bella Union acts at the minute, here is the return of one of my favourite new artists, Stockholm duo I Break Horses . "Winter Beats" is the follow up to "Hearts" both taken for I Break Horses' debut album 'Hearts', due August 15th. "Winter Beats" glistens like sun over a snowy landscape with gorgeously dreamy synth pulses that gradually builds in rhythmic momentum, reverbing layers of noise and drum combine with Maria's hazy whisper. It's, as expected, beautiful. [...]
