Hospital Garden There's nothing more exciting than watching a band blossom throughout the years. With two full albums under their collective belts, the members of alt-rock trio Hospital Garden have fully grown into their sound. The group released a new four-song split EP with Americana rockers The Canoes last month. On the album, Hospital Garden's sole original track "Something Happened" exhibits some real bite. The new track is crunchier than Hospital Garden's past catalog. "Something Happened" booms and thunders with distressed solos [...]
Small Chicago strikes again with another great live set by a Chicago band. This week the video makers unveiled a three-song jam by alt-rockers Hospital Garden , who impressed us with their sophomore album Haunter . Check out the sweet theremin action on Hospital Garden's song "Midway" courtesy of guitarist Lucas Hollow. If you missed Hospital Garden's record release show last night, don't fret. You can catch the band on Thursday, Sept. 29 at Quencher's Saloon for the PRF BBQ. Tickets are $5 .

Some bands cannot overcome that pesky sophomore album curse, but Chicago alternative rockers Hospital Garden , with a new drummer in tow, took some time to re-evaluate its style and came back stronger than ever on its latest album Haunter . Whereas the trio's self-titled debut kicked off the album with a few innocuous plucked chords, Hospital Garden's latest effort Haunter dares to be bold with screechy feedback that bleeds into the opener "Ties." Take that few seconds of grating [...]

"Before Hospital Garden embraced Chicago as home, their roots were in working class capitals in Michigan and Ohio. Two years into their Windy City tenure, the band have released an acclaimed Self-Titled album on Cerberus Records, built a local following, played the Midwest's most established venues, and opened for nationally touring acts such as Evan Dando, Pattern is Movement, Robert Pollard, Kinch and many others. Riding all of this momentum, Hospital Garden is set to release their sophomore effort Haunter. This full-length sees the band developing their craft with more complex and engaging songwriting, [...]

Prizzy Prizzy Please Three did-you-really-go-to-that-mega -fest-this-weekend reasons to assume you didn't because you're a pretty cool kid and so you're jazzed up to head to Panchos tonight... 1. Prizzy Prizzy Please sound pretty much like their name. They just can't take themselves seriously. That doesn't mean they are Weird Al but it does mean you'll hear songs called "New Shoes" that are literally about new shoes. The fact that they wrap their silliness in some kind of post-punk dance just muddles the whole [...]

Three stop-using-that-dry-shampoo-an d-introduce-your hair-to-soap-and-water reasons to come out to Beat Kitchen tonight... 1. Any band that describes itself as "a cross between a hot dog and a Replacements melody" is A-OK in my book. And it's true, vocally, there's a hint of Replacements mixed with some moderately paced folk and maybe even some Pavement-esque quirk in The Canoes ' lyrics. The end result is pretty damn palatable. To celebrate The Canoes' new album Roger the Chicago quintet will hand out free copies to those in attendance. Don't [...]

Chicago dreamwavers The Record Low will release all that tension you've been carrying in your lower back way better than all those yoga stretches you've been attempting all year. The group's most recent effort Away From Us contains 10 tracks of ethereal dream pop that will lift you up, place you on your own personal cloud and send you on your way. Let me tell you, that will come in handy after soul-rocking performances by the two acts [...]

From big names such as Weezer and Wu-Tang Clan to up-and-coming locals such as Secret Colours and Chaperone , this weekend has a little bit for everyone. Let's get to it, shall we? FRIDAY [...]

...while the music scene here in Dayton perpetually exists in a state of flux with bands coming and going, often without notice, we lost one of our favorite acts last summer as the grungy popsters of Hospital Garden bid adieu to the Gem City and relocated to Chicago. While we occasionally receive transmissions as to [...]

Photo by Audrey Leon Alternative rock trio Hospital Garden celebrated the release of its debut album with an explosive show at Beat Kitchen on Friday night. The band dared to open the show with a new song, tentatively called "Vegetable," before launching into the best cuts from its debut full-length album including "Red Flagger," "Banshee," and "Young Republicans," which was featured on Chicago Now . The members of Hospital Garden put on an exciting show, adding depth [...]

Atoms For Peace A bit chilly today, but we can make it through this, Chicago. Nice warm up tomorrow and then clear sailing to sunny 80-degree days next week. Wait a second. When did this become the weather report? There could be a blizzard outside and that wouldn't stop the fact that there's tons of live music to be heard. This weekend is packed with great shows from Mission of Burma , Japandroids , Thom Yorke's new group Atoms For Pace and so much more. Lets get to [...]

Chicago - by way of Dayton, Ohio - rockers Hospital Garden pay homage to their early 90's alternative rock idols on its self-titled debut album. If it were at all possible for R.E.M. vocalist Michael Stipe and Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis to procreate, that union would likely result in the birth of a child with the vocal chords of Hospital Garden lead vocalist Lucas Hollow. One of the many highlights of Hospital Garden is Hollow's voice. Like his band, which is able to [...]

Tortoise Holy smokes! This might be the best weekend for live music in Chicago outside of Pitchfork Fest and Lollapalooza weekends. So many shows. So little time. Read on for previews of Evan Dando at the Double Door , Tortoise at Lincoln Hall , Scott Lucas and the Married Men at Schubas and that's just scratching the surface. But before we get to the shows, a reminder that Loud Loop Radio will be back on the air tomorrow, Saturday, February 20, at [...]

Three reasons to check out The Black Tape at the Bottom Lounge tonight... 1. Because The Black Tape are a Chicago band you definitely need to familiarize yourself with. The Black Tape recall '60s guitar pop of The Kinks or the Zombies with a touch of motown soul via front man Rashid's vocal delivery. The fact that the band doesn't over extend themselves is one of their biggest strengths as they keep things short and simple. Check out the track, "I Love You" on the group's Myspace page [...]

...for the second time in less than a month, we at The Buddha Den have had the bittersweet opportunity to send off some of Dayton's finest young talent to other cities. While earlier in August we said goodbye to Hospital Garden [off to Chicago], last evening at South Park Tavern we said goodbye to Jordan Hull , who is heading off to find his fortunes in Nashville. With his departure close at hand, there was no shortage of souls eager to come out and see him perform in his hometown one last time. Combing through [...]
...if you were fortunate enough to have been part of last evening at South Park Tavern , you'll likely acknowledge that it was an incredible evening of music and that the audience rose to the occasion as well, feeding enthusiasm back to the bands. Openers Electric Banana and The Turkish Delights both turned in sets that had the crowds on their feet and wanting more. For one band, however, the evening served as a goodbye. Here are a few words from Lucas of Hospital Garden ... Hospital Garden [...]

...in adhering to the sad and sickening status quo, one of Dayton's finest will soon be relocating. In the process of becoming one of our favorites over the past year or so, Hospital Garden emerged as one of the Gem City's leading contenders. Their scheduled departure to Chicago this fall saddens us greatly, but we're very excited for their future. Tonight we will say goodbye with a very special show at South Park Tavern , featuring the next wave of Dayton goodness, The Turkish Delights and Electric Banana . Come on out and help [...]
