Good Weekend The Devil's new festival correspondent Toby Jones hot footed it down to Micheldever in Hampshire to sample the delights of one of the newest festivals on the block, the comact and bijou Good Weekend. The festival certainly lived up to its name with an eclectic range of new and established acts, crammed into a diary friendly schedule. Friday night was party night, with Rinse FM’s Monki warming up the crowd perfectly for legendary mixologist Parker’s headline set, where he had everyone [...]

We sent the intrepid, roving photographer (and now reporter!) Hari Deakin to check out the new, Hampshire-based Good Weekend festival. Read what she thought of the debutant event below. The Good Weekend was just that, a good weekend. Scrap that, a Great Weekend (rename for next year maybe?). A quote from my fellow festival goer, "Music, pint, cheese burger, friends. Heaven.". Simple. Much like the whole ethos really. All built around one main arena, Good Weekend hosted 2 Stages as well as an impromptu venue, The Bar. Other than the stages there was [...]

Click image to download track Sounds like: Summer Camp, Camera Obscura, Tilly and the Wall, Hot Club de Paris "Slow Club - Two Cousins" What's so good? Slow Club released "Two Cousins" in mid June, and I've been seeing buzz for the duo build on the Internets since then. That's not to say they're a brand-spanking-new production - Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor have supported [...]
A quirky band of Liverpool art-poppers have their debut release in the U.S.
[ download ] [tweetmeme] Hot Club de Paris is not afraid to encumber its songs with preposterous titles. The Liverpool trio named its first single “Sometimesitsbetternottostic kbitsofeachotherineachotherfor eachother.” After that mouthful, calling a song “Free the Pterodactyl 3” sounds almost debonair. Fortunately, “Free the Pterodactyl 3” is a much subtler song than its title suggests. It slinks into the listener’s consciousness as a modernized version of The Proclaimers’ "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)." Do not blame Hot Club de Paris for this similarity; rather rejoice in its unselfconscious [...]

Hot Club De Paris is an excellent example of a particular brand of energized, frenetic British rock that manages to sound like the middle-finger-flipping child of punk rock while maintaining an excellent vocabulary. [...]

HOT CLUB DE PARIS | FREE THE PTERODACTYL 3 MOSHI MOSHI Liverpudlians Hot Club de Paris recently turned out the full length Free The Pterodactyl 3 , a cheeky set of 12 pop songs that build upon their last two EPs. Five years on since their recording debut, the indie band leans towards angular power pop with a math rock bent (atypical rhythmic structures, angular melodies, and dissonant chords) and indulge in [...]

At the start of 2011 Hotcakes were lucky enough to interview Birmingham rockers Johnny Foreigner , and here, for your pleasurable perusal it is. With an interview at the near start of new year, I have to ask you to reflect on 2010 – how was it for you? Any particular highs and lows? Yeah, a record amount of both. The highs were a South African tour, American tour, sleeping with Alcopop. And lows were having less money than we started with, label hassle, adults. A hard but confident win for [...]
This video was my introduction to Hot Club de Paris. Before the vocals came into play, the music immediately called to mind indie rock/math rock outfit American Football, especially with the crashing cymbals and the spiraling guitar riff. The video itself sees the band's three members in a room, all pounding away on part of a drum kit. And while the camera swings around them, cutting in close on their faces, the song continues to grow to an uplifting, celebratory feel of a finale. It's about the musical union between these guys that brings you inside the video. [...]

Free The Pterodactyl 3 - Hot Club de Paris Free The Pterodactyl 3 - Hot Club de Paris ( Free Download / Buy ) Hot Club de Paris (@hotclubdeparis) kick-punche d their way into my road trip rotation when I was a sophomore in college. My reputation for being an Anglophile motivated a friend to introduce me to Drop It 'til It Pops, Hot Club's first LP, which I dug it instantly. "Clockwork Toy" and "I Swung for Judas" were two of the tightest punk songs [...]
Hey Rachel- Remember when we went to Iceland and we literally stood inches away from Hot Club de Paris at 12 Tonar in Reykjavik ? Remember how we basically had to dodge their guitars when they swung them while playing? Remember how we totally loved them and thought they were so awesome? Well I'm happy to report that Hot Club de Paris is still making music. They just released Free the Prerodactyl 3 , which is a compilation of EP releases from 2010. According to the HCdP website, [...]

I'm not sure why, but my most immediate reaction upon hearing new music is to find another song or a band to compare the freshly introduced tunes to. Might be a common thing, rooted in wanting to make the unfamiliar familiar, to feel comfortable with a stranger. With Hot Club de Paris track "Free The [...]
Liverpool's Hot Club de Paris have just digitally released their North American debut "Free The Pterodactyl 3." Check the band out with a free download of the album's poppy title track, full of whimsy, a sing-along chorus and plenty of twinkling harmonies. Traditional pop has just gotten a new twist.

Another week of some of the best releases from (some) new bands. Week starting Monday 17 December: Smith Westerns – Dye It Blonde ( Fat Possum ) Smith Westerns - All Die Young > Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi ( Domino ) The Decemberists - The King Is Dead ( Capitol ) Hot Club De Paris – Free The Pterodactyle [...]

Hot Club de Paris are certainly one of the more intriguing bands I've come across in some time. Huddled in their Liverpudlian rehearsal space, the trio has cobbled together a sound that isn't quite prog or art-rock or math-rock or any other of an endless array of inane hyphenated sub-sub-sub-genres. That being said, good luck resisting its charms. Free The Pterodactyl 3 (available digitally from Moshi Moshi on January 18th) is the band's North American debut and features a dozen tunes culled from their two [...]

Hot Club de Paris are Paul Rafferty (vocals/bass/baritone), Matthew Smith guitar/vocals) and Alasdair Smith (drums/vocals), and are soon to release their newest album "Free the Pterodactyl 33 on Moshi Moshi Records (digital/jan.18th). A record that was self recorded and produced in their Liverpool rehearsal space is being called "Lean, mean pop perfection" (Drowned In Sound) and is evidenced below in the title track/video; a never-ending guitar lick taking us into a climax of percussion and gang vocals. Check out Free The Pterodactle 3 . Hot Club de Paris - "Free The Pterodactyl 33 [...]
