Hot & Cold's "Uighur Pop" sounds like the revolutionary anthem of the future. A group of trench-coat wearing street kids gather in a warehouse to discuss the downfall of the mega-government that's peering at them through their state-issued ID Watches. A speaker steps on stage to rally the youthful mob. As his speech gets louder [...]

Hot & Cold are Simon and Joshua Frank, a Beijing via NY duo who grind out disconnected, synth scraped jams that froth atop insistent dime store beats. The pair fleshes out a narcotic loner niche that pays its share of homage to the Suicide jams that preceded them and the lo-fi contingent that feels like a lost limb. Coming off like deep space transmissions bounced from the communist underground, the whole of Conclusion/Introduction feels as if its wrapped its icy fingers around a dystopian youth pulse. Always good to see some fresh blood spewing from the Night People [...]

I can't imagine a much better way to ring in the new year than a free compilation from the folks over at Bathetic Records . Expressway comes curated by Dirty Beaches' Alex Zhang Hungtai and Bathetic's William Cody Watson, and features track after track of dense and often foreboding jams you would expect from artists like Speculator , Tonstartssbandht , or Hungtai himself. My personal favorite of the compilation's many highlights is "Distant Lights" from Beijing's Hot & Cold . "Distant Lights" pits a relentless bass groove against warb-ly atmospherics [...]

From Hot Chip to Hot Cold. And this track is just hot hot. Makes me sit back in my chair, sigh, and complain that they just don't 'em like they used to. (The secret is the guitar, young synth-poppers.) Seconds later, I will put my headband on and dart out the door to do something vigorous. I feel like a my own personal training montage for this to soundtrack. Hot Cold - I Can Hear Your Voice

I found this a few other tapes in a street cart in Modica, Sicily, one of those kind of carts that normally sell burgers at car boot sales. It is special because it falls into the eurodance/italo category, but after the classic italo period and moving into 1986 when the Stock Aitken Waterman sound and Sabrina's Boys Boys Boys style were becoming de rigeur. And it appears a bunch of the tracks are quite rare in that they only appeared on a single and this comp, including the tracks from Ka-Zan, The Winners, Marilytz and Animal Heat. Unfortunately, [...]

I've been waiting for a good opportunity to post something from this cool dude since I've played his edits for a long time now. He's a very productive remixer and producer and he got tons of stuff on his own blog aswell as on his myspace. Richardo aka Manaia runs the dopest party in Lissabon aswell as dj'ing all over. Today he sent us three original tracks that are all killers and he even gets support from the talanted Deize Tigrona on one of the tracks. DJ Manaia - [...]
These songs are the type of Italo Disco and Synthpop that too many people don't want to listen to, because "it's too cheesy" or something. I don't get it. Roxanne is a babe who released three songs, all produced by the couple behind Bad Boys Blue , Venus , and...well, a bunch more stuff by Bad Boys Blue , and a 1990 cover of Prince's 'Nothing Compares 2 U' , which I haven't heard but expect to be fascinating. This song has so much goodness going on. The lyrics, the [...]
