And now, the conclusion of our extensive recap of last week's Harvest of Hope . If you missed day one, you can find it here . And don't forget to check back in the upcoming weeks for interviews with The Gaslight Anthem, None More Black, The Casting Out and Against Me! DAY 2 Just to get it out of the way from the very beginning, I would like to hereby declare all Day Twos of future Harvest of Hope Fests as [...]

The inaugural Harvest of Hope Festival took place this past weekend on St. John's Fairgrounds, just outside of St. Augustine, Florida (the oldest city in the country) and, I am happy to report, it was a resounding success. Not only was the music phenomenal, there seemed to be very few snags (rare for a new festival) and the organizers seemed absolutely thrilled. There was a special vibe in the air all weekend long, due to many of the artists' first-hand involvement in the event. This did not feel like a corporate event, where a large company was paying [...]

... appears under your feet. and Good-Morning, Smithers-Jones ,,, At some point, the realization comes that maybe there's something better. Loyalty is great, and as they take turns shoveling the dirt onto your box the pretty words are spoken. But who's the sucker? You are, of course. Because you always give more than you get. And you're always a line item on an entry pad. And don't forget it. The orchestra on the Titanic didn't get any extra props for going down with the ship, did they? The struggle [...]
:: TV on the Radio is heading out on the road . Tour is kicking off here in Louisville. Might be a good time. :: Morrissey was recently interviewed by Zane Lowe. :: A sad day for fans of fine cinema: Dolly Parton will not be appearing in the Hannah Montana movie. :: Culture Bully has some P.O.S. tracks from his Radio K in-studio performance. :: Some bands playing Bamboozle will be doing cover [...]
Seeing as the Hallmark Holiday is hours away, I thought I would browse through my collection and throw out my Top 5 Favorite Songs with the word "valentine" in the title. Sure, one would think that songwriters have better things to do than sing about a nonsensical holiday with little or no meaning, but then again, they are just love songs in the end, aren't they? Some of these bands have made appearances on our lists before, and some you might not be aware of, until now that is. So here is to you and yours on this [...]

We've been wondering this, if only because it shows, yet again, that people who want to live vicariously through their rock 'n' roll idols have been able to since the beginnings of the "Guitar Hero"/"Rock Band" age really can sort of go and gain marginal amounts of fame for it. Which makes us a little more than ill. And, so, when news just broke that a 14-year-old from Texas set the Guinness Book world record for the "Guitar Hero" game (seriously reminding us here of the whole "Super Mario Bros. 3" contest in "The Wizard") and [...]

I managed to dredge up my memories of news, shows, and records that happened this past year. It wasn't easy. I've fried a lot of brain cells with black coffee and fumes from the subway, so remembering what I had for dinner the night before is sometimes a chore. Not to mention that a lot of albums have come across my desk, I spent a lot of time listening to music, almost to an obsessive level sometimes. So to highlight my favorite stuff of the year, never mind remembering what exactly came [...]
Ultra-technical hardcore troupe, Misery Signals released their third album in 2008. We spoke to Stuart Ross about playing guitar and headbanging with the Milwaukee natives whilst planning a trip to Fuck City for New Year's. What was your highlight of 2008? My personal highlight of 2008 was the Through The Noise tour with Misery Signals, Comeback Kid , Bane, Shai Hulud, Outbreak and Grave Maker. It was such a great time having a handful [...]
Slave to What? Jimmy Morbid? I don't think so? So while Jimmy is getting all faux NYXHC on you, Rinjo brings you the tunes that just might get you to go out and buy the album. After all it's Christmas... Since 2005's Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line was released, followed by last year's parody, Walk Hard , the Johnny Cash homage overload has pretty much died down. However, praise of the late legend will resume with the Anchorless Records release of All Aboard: A Tribute To Johnny Cash on October 21st. Taglined by the label as "Punk/Indie Greats Honor The Man In Black," the album will offer renditions from the likes of The Bouncing Souls, The Dresden Dolls (Feat. Franz Nicolay Of The Hold Steady), The Gaslight Anthem, The Sainte [...]

On the drive home from the A Wilhelm Scream show (see previous post) I was, needless to say, tired as a hound dog. But an iced cappucino and a packet of Skittles could only do so much and the seven or eight albums on the lone mp3 CD in the car was getting a bit rote after a couple of hours. Once we got close enough to Brandon (two hours from Winnipeg, three from Regina), I knew what would keep me at attention. I went to school there for broadcast media training, and part of our course was [...]

Photos by Bill Shouldis The Hot Water Music reunion trail found it's way into NYC's Terminal 5 last Saturday. It had been a while since the boys had played in Manhattan so the crowd was very ready to scream along and get sweaty. And boy was it sweaty. The air surrounding the floor smelled of rich, B.O. Mmmm. Anyways, the boys blazed through a passionate and blistering set. The highlight of the show was "It's Hard To Know," from the band's best record No Division . I think [...]

That's right. The reunion shows, which have slowly morphed into a reunion tour for Hot Water Music, will not be ending anytime soon. The details of what this means for the future of the members' other projects or whether HWM will release a full album of new material is yet to be clarified by the band. Yet, I am sure that I'm not alone when I say that I'm cool with that, so long as I get to see my Hot Water play live again. Back in January, my wife and I were [...]
