All holiday song rewrites aside, this is the perfect weekend to check out our fair city's fine local acts. We're chattering about Sissy Mena and Soft Speaker's record release shows at Subterranean and Beat Kitchen , respectively. Plus Heaving Mass at Empty Bottle and a whole lot more! Increase your blood flow and let's hop to it. FRIDAY [...]

The band is planning a record release show on 9/28 // Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

Hotel St. George is a rawkus jam that sounds like it is a lost recording from the 702s. I have been spinning this for a few weeks and that is best way I can splain it. I hate to say things like that since I feel like they are lazy, but the LP has a polished post- punk bent underneath some DIY recording...that stoatally sounds like it came out of a crate of '78 British vinyl aka it's rad! In most things that catch my ear there is something that just tickles my fancy and [...]

Hotel St. George // Bloodlust Hailing from San Diego (and possibly a time machine) comes the rollicking rock'n'roll of Hotel St. George. They cite Television as a major influence (among others) and I'm happy to confirm that their music has that vibrant late 70's punk rock vibe. If there is one thing that sets Hotel St. George out from the pack it's the singer's voice. The tone of his voice and his quirky vibrato gives the music this faux sense of authenticity. Sure [...]
Here's a look at some of the stuff I just couldn't get to this week: Hotel St. George, Bloodlust This is the latest album from our friends, San Diego indie rockers Hotel St. George. In the past the band have tended to have a rootsier feel. They trade that in on this album for some fuzz and reverb. The rough edges are left rough, which is great. There's also a greater Anglo-rock sound, with

I've featured San Diego folk-rock outfit Hotel St George here a few times. Word has now come to me that the band is at it again, releasing a digital 7" (I long for the old 5 1/4" myself) entitled Amusements. Grab the track "Like a Tiny Grasshopper" now. The band is working on a new album tentatively titled Indian School. They also have a series of NYC shows over the next few days. Hopefully

San Diego's band Hotel St. George sent us the link for their latest video. Hotel St. George like dinosaurs and wizards but wizards riding dinosaurs and fighting robots. They made a couple of records, check out Little Childrens' Bones self made video from their last album Fun Shine Line which is a garage, rock, shoegaze, synth pop type of a record.

Who : Hotel St. George Location : San Diego, CA RIYL : White Rabbits, Death Cab for Cutie, Cold War Kids Thoughts : First time listening to Hotel St. George they sounded like a very standard indie rock outfit. They were completely unoffensive, they stuck to basic song structures, and they sounded okay doing those things, but nothing really stuck out. That was until the song "That's Why I Drink Every Night" came on. It immediately perked my ear up and not just for because of my [...]
When a band radically alters its sound the results can either be glorious (the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) or an abomination of music (Chris Cornell). So when I heard that Hotel St. George's forthcoming album Funshine Line would be a "departure" I was guardedly optimistic. The band's 2009 album, City Boy Lemon, was number 38 on our best albums of the year list. The sound of that record was firmly planted
Our friends in San Diego indie rock band Hotel St George have wrapped up recording for a new album that will see the light of day sometime in 2010. The album has a harder edge and darker feel from the roots-base of the solid City Boy Lemon. We've got a sneak preview for you with the mind blowing "That's Why I Drink Every Night". Grab it here. I for one can't wait to hear the whole thing.
As a part of the Inside the Bakery Series, we here at Audio Muffin had a chance to catch up with a promising young band, Hotel St. George back around Halloween. After we all decorated some muffins with orange and black icing and plastic draculas, we decided it was time ...
San Diego indie rockers Hotel St. George are the type of band that we love. They're exciting, they play fun music, and they doing it all on their own terms. The band's third album in the past two years, City Boy Lemon , is their best yet. Not ones to rest on their laurels, they haven't stopped writing and are already formulating ideas for their fourth album, which should be ready to go for early next year. The band has been mostly playing around their hometown as of late, but expect to [...]
San Diego's Hotel St George have just released a pretty cool video for their song "Apples and Pears". You should definitely check them out here: Hotel St George's Myspace

Our mail bag has overflowed with new tunes this month. Out of procrastination excuses and with the e-mail piling up, we took a deep breath, steadied our nerves and went postal. To our surprise there's some really good stuff in there. A few of these artists we already knew about, but many are flying below the radar. From now one, we'll make it a regular feature to share the mailbag goods. Check out the tracks below and let us know who you like, so can get more material on them in the future. [...]
