I adore The Devlins. The Devlins should have been massive. On Tuesday I seen Colin Devlin live in the un-christmasy Whelans upstairs room. Colin was excellent and the debut album A Democracy Of One is full of wonderful tunes. He was joined onstage by his brother Peter and Fiachna O'Braonain from the bands Hothouse Flowers and Prenup. The three played most of Colin's debut as well as Waiting, Drift, World Outside and There Will Be A Light from the The Devlins. More is promised in February. www.myspace.com/colindevlinmus ic The Devlins - I Knew [...]
well, hey looky here, the fine folks at matador /domino have announced a reissue/re-fancy packaging of pavement's brighten the corners. been wondering when this would be coming to fruition. i guess the time is now. it sounds as if they will be doing some "buy it early" type shenanigans to entice it to actually purchasing it. i, for one, always welcome that kind of stuff, plus the packaging on the first three have been pretty awesome. one band to come out of the 90's that i have totally lost track of is the hothouse flowers. Does anyone remember the Tenants ? According to All Music Guide "songwriters Andy McLean and Gary Brown formed the Tenants with keyboard player Fraser MacDougall , drummer Derek Gassyt and bassist Lewis Mele . Wanna post a few songs? A little more memorable to most people are [...]

I fucking hate it when people go to gigs and talk all the way through the bastard things. If you don't want to pay any fucking attention to the songs, then piss off to another fucking pub. This is Edinburgh, there are thousands of places to go, so why don't you just piss off somewhere else? Secondly, it's just plain fucking rude. So what could be more mortifying than to find myself at the Kays Lavelle gig at the Village in Leith last Friday, actually being the one talking [...]

In the early 90's I wasn't listenng to a lot of music, and what I was listening to was all over the map. A little bit of country, a little bit of shoegaze (even though I didn't know that was what it was called) a little bit of whatever was popular on MTV or on WNEW-FM, the New York progressive rock dinosaur radio station. For me, it was a time of relearning how to listen to music, after a long period of not listening to much music at all. The three songs I'm posting here are songs I listened to [...]
