Hotpants Romance - who have been on maternity hiatus - are back. They're returning on Valentine's Day at Salford University. (Sorry - that should be 'Salford University: Manchester', shouldn't it?) This is what we've been missing: -- Visit No Rock & Roll Fun to comment, complain and kvetch

Emails - Hotpants Romance By many conventional measures not held or tolerated at all here, Hotpants Romance are the worst band in the world. However, by more accurate measures - measures of the heart, measures of the soul, impassioned measures, measures of just plain affect, measures that get it - they are the best. They formed two hours before their first show and now have just recently finished touring Europe. Form a band.

Oh, Hotpants Romance . So delightfully off key, and just so damn cute. Yes, the chaos driven trio of girls from across the pond are back with their oh so eccentric style of garage punk. Knowing how to make simple songs that make you laugh, love, and roll through a series of good time emotions in less than three minutes, you can't help but love these girls for their immense spirit and happy go lucky attitudes. "E-Mails" is a classic story of a love and [...]
![Various Artists: Wish I'd Kept A Scrapbook (A Tribute to Tullycraft) [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2671737_lg.jpg)
When I saw there was a new compilation devoted to hailing one of the greatest northwest bands of all time (yes, Tullycraft ), I got pretty excited. When I saw that the tracklist included bands from famed labels like Tullycraft's very own Magic Marker Records, as well as HHBTM, Matinee, and even recent favorite weePOP, my excitement blew through the roof. Look down the track list (it's at the end of this review... I'll forgive you for pausing to check it out) and you'll see some of the greatest indie pop and modern [...]

![Hotpants Romance: It's A Heatwave [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2003982_lg.jpg)
Hotpants Romance are so perfectly strange they're almost hard to comprehend. They boast their work as "three girls, three years, three chords". They really are as simple as that on the surface. Yet, there are so many things from their album It's A Heatwave that are shiny, bright, and utterly complicated in the most splendid of ways. Laura, Lowri, and Kate seem to enjoy the frame of mind and sound they have developed by the large amount of energy they exude through each track. It is [...]

Twee/Indiepop has been enjoying something of resurgence of late (thanks in no small part to the work of London based promoters/label/zine Twee As Fuck ) and as of this Wednesday the sound looks set to plant it's flag firmly in the face of Manchester via Now Wave's enviable Vivian Girls vs Hotpants Romance line up at The Deaf Institute. Like many band's swept up in this 'Twee' movement New Yooiker's the Vivian Girls music is anything but, their spiky girl-punk clutter closer in kin with say, Huggy Bear or The Primitives than [...]

Forget your Bings, Slades, Wizzards and Whams Cherryade Records Christmas album 'A Very Cherry Christmas vol. 4!' is out. The label love Christmas so much that they've been releasing an annual Christmas compilation since 2005 and this years is one of their best. It's like a Christmas album beamed in from planet Peel full of tracks that are as far from the mainstream as a child on the naughty list from a present from Santa. This year's compilations is packed with [...]

When this blog first started back in April 08, we ( here ) identified a Manchester music scene awash with "baggy nonsense snagged on lad-rock twatery" and that fundamentally, "to Manchester's immense pride and utter embarrassment, The Fall are the most important band in this former musical beacon" . All this is about to change. Joining the mancunian bands we've already praised and highlighted on this blog ( [...]

(Photo courtesy of Cable and Tweed .) Finally getting back into gear on the PopFest material... We'll continue chronologically from where we left off, with the UK's Hotpants Romance . I gotta say, this change in musical style (after just coming down from a somewhat relaxed Nana Grizol set out on the patio) was quite a shock to the system! :) Hotpants Romance 8.13.2008 Athens Popfest, Little Kings Shuffle Club, Athens, GA Source: Microtech Gefell M300's > Lunatec V3 (opti-mod) > Nomad JB3 > [...]

Part of me really wanted to hate It's A Heatwave by Hotpants Romance. What's to like about the messiest, sloppiest kind of garage pop by three girls who can hardly sing? A lot actually. I mean on first listen you might be mortified, but Kate Armitage, Laura Skilbeck and Lowri Evans have so much charm and a "fuck it" kind of attitude I really started to almost love this record. The opener "Hotpants No Chance" is a ridiculously brash, obnoxious, sweet and clever combo that really optimizes everything I love and hate about this [...]
Athens Popfest is like summer camp for indie pop and rock nerds. read more
The thing about Punk music is that its always better when the people playing it don't come across like they're trying too hard. I guess thats why groups made up of girls who own cool record collections and play the 3 chords they know like they're on a permanent sugar rush will always be worth a zillion pseudo anarchist bores with mohawks (seriously guy, if it really was 'anarchy' you'd probably be the first to cop it). Think The Slits, think X-Ray Spex. More recently think (early) Erase Errata and Mika Miko. And now, think Manchester's gloriously named Hotpants Romance. [...]
