EP: House of Brothers - Document 1 words: Jamie Milton originally scribed for thisisfakediy The third coming of an artist previously surrounded by inspired musical arrangements, writing and results, yet Andrew Jackson's implementation of a newly explored set of sounds shows complete contrast to his previous work with The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg and Scarecrows. Yet on the 'Deadman' EP, first indications showed a potential star in the making, one strapped to an acoustic guitar, with beautiful consequences. Yet this awaited return sees a slight side-step into band [...]

Artist: House of Brothers EP: Document 1 Label: Big Scary Monsters Release Date: 04/05/09 Link: www.myspace.com/houseofbrother s Words by: Jack Philips House Of Brothers have been compared to Fionn Regan. Really? Fionn Regan? Hmm. House of Brothers' second EP, the unimaginatively named Document 1 , certainly has it's charms but isn't quite on a par with the scenic folk of Fionn Regan. Document 1 is one of those EP's that start so [...]

So beyond studying for my health law final, this weekend will be all about catching up on my reviews that I have promised but haven't delivered upon yet...first up is House of Brothers ...I have previously talked about them here . Over Thanksgiving break my sister visited Seattle and while we were driving around one day I brought some of the new music to review with me to see what she thought...by far her favorite was the House of Brothers EP...In her words David Grey-like lyrics and Damien Rice-like music...and thus began her love for [...]

Because of NaNaWriMo , I fell behind with my emails. This post covers a month's worth of musicians who popped The Duke a gmail. There are some mp3s, vids and other things of note. Arranged in order from oldest to newest. Mojib ~ Answering Machine at Night RIYL: electronic music that samples The Jayhawks [ website ] House of Brothers ~ Deadman RIYL: a British Iron & Wine [...]

Yesterday I posted on a debut EP, and today I'll do the same... just in a completely different style. House of Brothers is the acoustic incarnation of Andrew Jackson from across the pond (Nottingham, to be exact). In the style of Rocky Votolato, Elliott Smith, and Kings of Convenience , House of Brothers craft "quiet is the new loud" tunes that seem to fit in the genre without sounding too much like any of its influences. Anyone who likes any of the bands I mentioned will like [...]

I get lots and lots of mail from band promoters and from bands themselves. It's really great to hear that someone has read our blog and wants to turn us on to their music. I don't like everything, or sometimes it just doesn't fit our format, but there is a lot of good stuff too. Today I'll make a feeble attempt to catch up with some of it, international-style. House of Brothers House of [...]

House Of Brothers is the main project of ex-Murder Of Rosa Luxemburg/Scarecrows man Andrew Jackson, who at 21 has already done a hell of a lot more than most of his musical pears. Rather than the uber-heavy nature of some of his previous work, House Of Brothers is a 60s Brit-folk style collective, echoing elements of John Martyn and Nick Drake style storytelling within a more modern folk-rock sound. He's been doing a bunch of touring behind the new name, and the two tracks below come from his first release. It'll be out on Big Scary Monsters on the 10th [...]

The first offering here is by Chicago band Absentstar . In preparation for their major label debut release on Canvasback Music , titled Sea Trials , the band has put out a short 4 song EP to arouse some attention. The band's got a big sound with some loud sweeping hooks. If you're looking for something to listen to while practicing for Guitar Hero III , here's your thing. Absentstar - For God's Sake : Sea Trials EP [...]

Elliot Smith fans don't despair. Though new music from the sadly deceased singer-songwriter keeps appearing at the same rate as that of Tupac, there are new artists out there carrying on his legacy while building their own. One such artist is Andrew Jackson. Despite, sharing the name of a Tennessee legend, this singer-songwriter hails from across the pond in Nottingham, UK and performs under the name House of Brothers . The softness and sensitivity of his voice, both physically and lyrically, also bring to mind that of Iron & Wine's Sam Bean as well as [...]

House of Brothers: "Deadman" (download) There's something easy to like about "Deadman" - particularly the falling piano, the flutes, the violins, the maracas, the hand claps. It's very complete, very well thought out, very whole. Nothing is missing. This is a nice little gem of a tune for fall. His self-titled debut EP is out Nov. 26th. I can't in all honesty say that I have been swept away by any of these three EPs. They do all have bits on that I have really liked though, and as they are all by small groups I thought it only fair that I pop them up here and let you guys decide for yourselves. I sometimes wonder what to do with things like these. I never want to have a go at new and emerging groups because I think that's a bit harsh, but if I'm not entirely convinced what do I do, especially if there are [...]

Fine recording company Big Scary Monsters has sent me a new song to promote, and I'm happy to do so since I think it's a very good one. The artist's called House Of Brothers , and here's what BSM has to say about them: Hailing from Nottingham, England, House of Brothers is the solo project from Andrew Jackson, former member of The Murder of Rosa [...]

House of Brothers NEW MUSIC REVIEW Even though I do not usually post reviews on new artists, I was sent this band's mp3 electronically by angel... so I decided to post something short and sweet to entice you to check the music out and see for yourself whether you like it or not. "Superb bootsale-pop like Elliot Smith rubbed down with lavender" - NME [...]

There is music that is spontaneous and energetic and there is music that is carefully crafted and thought through. The new band House of Brothers falls into the 2nd group with their orchestration and pop melodies. Right now, you can download the single "Deadman" for free: House of Brothers -- Deadman

Asa s-a nascut House Of Brothers . Dupa cum relateaza el, "This is a songwriting project. It's about constructing precise and thought provoking music that draws it's influences from the city, relationships, people in bars, philosophy, religion or anything that makes for a good story". Va puteti astepta la melodii acustice, cu parfum de folk si indie-pop, cu [...]

Stop. Nothing from House of Brothers sounds anything like lead Andrew Jackson's (no relation to that twenty-dollar bill guy) former group, The Murder of Rosa Luxemburg, one of the most promisingly weird spazz-scream-puke acts in England. First off, dude's now going solo with the occasional help of friends. Secondly, replace Murder's genre bending of The Blood Brothers meets Tortoise meets a keyboard-less Atom and his Package. Now that you've swallowed all of that down, we want to make clear that Jackson's new affair with all things slowcore and Vashti Bunyan-esque are, to [...]
