A couple months ago or so I was cold chillin with my fellow comrade Shoes in the whip before he took the stage @ the Pagoda, sippin the nectar, enjoying the scenery with that greenery & then he played me his album. Nigga. I lost my everloving mind sun! I'm sayin... I always knew my doode was dope, I always knew he was one of the trillest muthafuckaz in the game, let alone in my circle of fresh niggaz in the game, I always knew he had beats, I always knew muthafuckaz were'nt up on my man like they should [...]
House Shoes finally released his debut album today. The aptly titled Let It Go is available now via Tres Records, and here is the LP's first video for "Time" featuring Big Tone. The song breaks down the essence and science of time with Big Tone driving home many points on the topic. At the foundation though is the recognition that while time can be many things, it's can't be wasted. Watch the new video below. Check out in-depth interview with House Shoes here .
Things are busy for House Shoes right now, the DJ and producer from Detroit who put the city's music and culture on his back close to two decades ago. House Shoes has quite the resume. He's held residencies at Detroit's best venues for Hip Hop music along the way creating spaces platforms for cats to network, show their skills, and celebrate the music. He also worked closely with J. Dilla, and has DJ'ed or produced for the likes of Guilty Simpson, Black Milk, Danny Brown, Mayer Hawthrone and damn near anybody else in Detroit's Hip Hop scene. We're supposed to [...]
A couple weeks ago I interviewed House Shoes, the DJ and producer that has played a tremendous role in Detroit Hip Hop for nearly 20 years. House Shoes is known the world over as Detroit's Hip Hop ambassador and has worked painstakingly hard to promote the city and the music of Detroit. "Detroit Hip Hop is definitely the most influential and loved 'genre' within the genre," he told me confidently via phone in Los Angeles. "We've had more influence in this than anybody else, outside of the OG New York shit. There's no question about that." House Shoes [...]
House Shoes' debut album, Let It Go , will be released next Tuesday (June 19th). The album's title has many meanings for House Shoes, one of them being the amount of labor that House Shoes goes through to create a record up to his standards and then actually release it to the world. The songs are so personal for House Shoes, that he's kept a lot of them close to the vest, almost to the point of holding himself back. The LP represent House Shoes letting the music out, and seeing where it goes. Today we have one last [...]

House Shoes – Let It Go
House Shoes - Let It Go TRES Records: 2012 It’s possible to run a victory lap on your debut LP. Here, however, with Let It Go we have that case with some unique circumstances. This isn’t a cocky young gun claiming he’s the second coming of Rakim on his first single. We have in House Shoes (real name Michael Buchanan) a Detroit-bred DJ/producer who collaborated and argued with J Dilla and has been shouldering the spirit of his roughed up city and channeling it through a turntable with abstract and complex samples for well [...]
