Good news everyone! Howl is going to enter the studio to record an album that will be released next year! Their eponymous EP (which you can stream on their myspace) dropped on Relapse earlier this year and we were floored by it. To consider a full album's worth of what we heard on that EP makes our collective pair of pants feel a little tighter. Northeastern metalheads should be excited as well -

This might be a huge turd - I int listened yet. Gonna switch my laptop off and enjoy my weekend. Perhaps you should too. The Howling - The Howling
Let's cut to the chase: the winner to last week's funny photo caption contest, hands down, is this golden comment submitted by "(required)": As bad as he is at stealing band names, Dino proves to be even worse at stealing second base. This can be at least partially blamed on the distracting reminder of his favorite [...]

Straight out of the heavy music mecca that is Providence, Rhode Island, Howl kick so much ass that it's not really funny but actually rather serious on account of the aforementioned painful ass kickings. Relapse recently released the band's self-titled three-song EP, which is streaming at Howl's MySpace and available to purchase here They're [...]

Howl - 'Black Out' ( mp3 ) I am constantly impressed, surprised and to be honest slightly jealous at the level of talent that some of the fast emerging younger bands in Australia posses and these guys have to be up there with the best of them. Howl are a group of brash and reckless high school kids from Ballarat who hold firm in their hands the kind of musical talent, live flair and self-confidence that most of us can only wish we had now, let alone when we were in fucking year 11! The [...]
HALLELUJAH! Only a few weeks after the three-day slaughterfest that was MDF 2009, the madmen behind the whole thing (Ryan and Evan) have announced the initial lineup and dates for next year's edition. The festival will take place from May 28th to May 30th, with venue information to be released at a later date. The first [...]
In "Freshly Baked," we feature promising young bands or bands that are otherwise lacking the attention we think they deserve.by theseseans (NYC)Howl fuckin' rule. I caught them a few weeks ago at the ridiculous Doomriders show, an they totally stole the show for me. Yeah, there were some technical difficulties but I wouldn't say Howl were hampered by them, I'd say they stomped right the fuck

Ahh The Paper Scissors... It is refreshing to see you still don't take yourselves too seriously. Especially compared to bands like Empire of the Sun (whose video clips seem laugh-at-wank funny yet boring at the same time). For those unfamiliar, this New South Wales band are probably best known for their bird cawing groove We Don't Walk. ("We fly!") They're a bit silly but in a fun way, they sound somewhat like a combination between Modest Mouse, TV on the Radio and Beck. They have just released a new EP and are currently touring the golden [...]

Featuring a line-up that seriously rivals the likes of any flyer we've seen in a long time, last night's Bacardi B-LIVE event at M:2 (formerly Mansion, Ministry of Sound and, er, Crobar) was one of the largest, most rambunctous, hilarious and fun nights we've had in a while, while also being one of the more frustrating. But way less about the latter will be discussed than the former, because, well, if you read our Twitter feed , you've seen/felt us bitch enough as it is. With killer DJ sets (the ones we caught anyways, sorry [...]
Left: Peter Orlovsky and his lover Allen Ginsberg, 1957. Right: Aaron Tveit and James Franco, as Orlovsky and Ginsberg , in the upcoming flick Howl. Franco, odd as this may sound, seems pretty perfect as a young Ginsberg. Even if he is much better looking. The movie, filming now and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, follows the obscenity trial of Ginsberg's most famous poem. One can only hope that if a biopic is made of your life that you were deserving enough to have better looking people pretend to be you. [...]
After the antics of the first day of the festival, I felt more than ready to get into day two with a healthy dose of music from the beginning. Unfortunately, that was not to be so for me, as at the time I thought I would be continuing on after SXSW into further ridonkulousness, all [...]
by john cole I had no intentions of going to this show. I didn't even know it was happening this night. After seeing the New York Howl at Zebulon, I walked around the block to Monkeytown in hopes of getting a spot at the Xiu Xiu show, despite both shows being sold out. Though there weren't any seats left (the show included dinner), they were nice enough to let us in and sit on the floor about three feet away from the mic stand. [...]
What I missed by not going to SXSW.During the dubiously titled "Bloggers Are Now in Charge" panel at South by Southwest last week, an audience member uncorked a lengthy diatribe about how music blogge... Continue reading "None So Vile: Bonded by Blood" >
John Iskander, the man behind Parade of Flesh booking (The Lounge on Elm Street, Club Dada, Pastime Tavern), has announced the lineup for his inaugural South by South Flesh show, which will take place... Continue reading "Parade Of Flesh Announces South By South Flesh Lineup" >

Howl In the current issue of Decibel (#44, Iron Maiden cover), I've done the "Throw Me a Frickin' Bone!" column, which reviews demos and unsigned records. Some of them are actually good. The two of note this time are by Howl and Mendozza. Both are hairy and sound like it. (One of my non-metalhead friends read the column, after which she turned to me and asked, "What is 'beard metal'?" It was so cute.) Howl - And [...]
