Australia / United Kingdom "Setting Sun" Howling Bells on MySpace

Its hard to get better with someone watching over you. But when no one is watching you, then where are you? Where the fuck are you then? Im so lucky, and I hate that im the lucky one. Nobody is ever been lucky to have me. Download: Howlling Bells - A Ballad For The Bleeding Hearts
Last Thursday, Howling Bells were in session for Mark Radcliffe, and said some very lovely things about how nice Brian Molko was. Virtue, it seems, is it own reward, but public virtue comes with a nice dollop of work attached - the band have today been named as the support for the Placebo tour of Europe. Is something happening up in Scotland? Something in the water maybe? First Arab Strap call it quits. Now Colin's gone and called time on Lets Kiss & Make Up. And I for one am gutted at the news. I don't know Colin. Never met him. Yet I feel in the short time we've been online buddy's that I've gotten to know a side of him. His music, his views, his comments and his opinions have all

I’m finding I’m using a lot more female led bands in this Sydney feature than I do usually. Not only does this indicate that Sydney has a wealth of female talent floating around but it quashes any suggestion that I have an inherent sexism in my music tastes. Howling Bells are interesting band for me. In the past I’ve liked bands with a slight country influence, but this band takes me one step closer to that dreaded genre. Thankfully I’ve managed to overcome such superficial worries and just concentrate on the fact that they make great music. Their music is [...]

I've had a week now of milking Summer Sundae to the max for blogging purposes, and here's one more. BBC 6 Music were the main media partners of the festival, so naturally they broadcasted quite a bit of live music from the festival. So thanks to them, here are a few choice 'live at Summer Sundae' tracks from some of the bands I saw over the weekend. Download: Calexico - El Picador Download: The Proclaimers - I'm on My Way [...]
Saturday’s musical adventures started at the early hour of 2pm with Howling Bells in De Montford Hall. My prior knowledge of HB has been through some tracks off various blogs. I quite enjoyed their dark brooding rock which had a certain swagger and was perfect for the darker-than-usual interior of the Hall. The highlights came at the beginning of the set with a song that sounded like a sexier
Back at the turn of the millennium, I had a slight obsession with Juanita Stein. There was something about her voice that stood out from the crowd - an ethereal, delicate quality that made me go a little weak at the knees, and boy, the kids loved it! The then Waikiki enjoyed minor success locally in Australia with its 2002 release, I'm Already Home, which featured Juanita's long-time friend Ben
