This past Friday my online calendar reminded me of a show that I completely forgot about: Hub City Stompers at Philadelphia's Fire. I showed up pretty late (and even then, Hub City wasn't taking the stage until about 12:30am). I made it in time for NY's Jukebox Romantics. The Jukebox Romantic:These guys took the stage to a tiny crowd, consisting mostly of their friends and maybe 3 or 4

On Saturday night, I headed down to Bordentown, NJ's Record Collector in order to see an in-store performance by home state ska heroes Hub City Stompers. The vibe was a strange one: there was a hotdog and popcorn vendor, seats for people to sit down, and two sections (an upper, where the band and a few dedicated fans were, and the main, where the majority of the crowd stayed and calmly watched).
Over the past few years, NJ's skinhead ska band Hub City Stompers have gained a respectable sized following across the country. However, I was surprised to learn that many fans aren't familiar with their first album, "Blood, Sweat and Beers". Somewhere between "Blood, Sweat and Beers" and "Dirty Jersey", Hub City Stompers had a complete line-up change, and the music on BSB is noticeably
I've been waiting for Hub City Stompers' "Ska Ska Black Sheep" ever since I heard them play "Ska Train To Dork-Ville" back in 2007. For those of you who don't know, Hub City Stompers are New Jersey's self proclaimed "ska for people who hate ska". They mix traditional skinhead 2-tone with touches of old school punk rock, and are one of the most energetic live ska bands around.I was a little
Oi Mates! In the last Scenester 101, we taught you how to be a stage diving, mic grabbing hardcore kid... now it's time to teach you how to be a bloody skin!9. Speak with a Cockney AccentIt doesn't matter that you're a 16 year old from Nebraska... speak with a Cockney accent if you really want to be a skin. Sneer that nose, curl your lip and never use the word "my" again. (Ex: I want me pint)
Last Friday (3/27/09), I headed out to North Philly's 941 Theater (and wound up stranded up there for a good 2 hours at 2am... fuck you SEPTA). I've never been to the 941 Theater before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It definitely looked like an old warehouse with a knee high stage made of... (Visit Page For Songs and Rest Of Article)
Freaking stoked out of my mind could not even begin to describe how hyped I was to catch the biggest ska fest on this side of the hood. Yesterday I trekked the two hour drive out to the Starland Ballroom in New Jersey. After getting horribly lost (god I hate google maps sometimes), I finally arrived a tad late missing most of the local bands. Hub City Stompers: When I first heard of the

Probably the most interesting venue I've ever been to, Asbury Lanes is punk rock bar/bowling alley of about 8 lanes, with a stage set up in the middle. The show was a birthday party for both Travis and Matt of Hub City Stompers. I got in just as one of the openers Kohuff was setting up, and the atmosphere was relaxed and laid back. The Pete from The Bouncing Souls was making his rounds (a regular hangout spot for him), and I made myself comfortable in front of the stage (of where only about 10 people [...]

Think ska was killed by a stake through the heart years ago? Think again. Ska is alive and kicking, almost as much as everyone at the First Unitarian Church last night. While there were 4 bands on the bill, I only caught 2, The Hub City Stompers (who I went to go see), and The Slackers. If you don't know who The Hub City Stompers are, they are a skinhead influenced self proclaimed "Ska for people who hate ska" band out of New Brunswick NJ. Now [...]
