Allen [...]

Cornell Dupree Mystic Moods' ' Cosmic Sea' reminds me of Widespread Panic's rendition of Stevie Wonder's ' Superstition '. Hugh Montenegro's version sounds like it's from a space-age porno film. Cambridge, Mass's Passion Pit is mostly this guy, Michael Angelakos. He likes to sing like a girl and, apparently, flail his arms in the air while he does so. I don't really care what he does with his arms, or voice, just so long as he keeps pumping out the sweet poppy jams like he does the Passion Pit debut EP Chunk of Change [which was, allegedly, first recorded as a valentine for his valentine]. [...]

In a time of nearly uniformly bad news, Obama's election is certainly a good reason to rejoice, and what would a celebration be without a good dose of Space Age Moog music? So today I offer a mix that surfaced some years ago on the Internet for a short time, the compilation Switched-On Basic Hip . Who could resist a computer singing "I Walk The Line", or Hugo Montenegro doing the Neil Diamond classic "Porcupine Pie"? It also features one of my favorite Walter Carlos tracks, the Burt Bacharach cover "What's New Pussycat". See the rest of this [...]

When I yielded, I thought it was to duty; but no duty could be called in aid here, only the satisfying symphony of small arms fire. From BitterAndrew's Comprehensive Guide to Films That Don't Exist, But Should : A nineteen year old Anne Elliot (Knightley) is pressured by her family to break off her engagement with a police inspector nicknamed "Tequila" (Chow). She believes it to be a simple matter of class differences, but eight years later, the truth comes out when she again crosses paths with her fomer love, only this time [...]

Hugo Montenegro "Montenegro began to branch out after the Hang 'Em High album, recording a diverse array of albums, ranging from show tunes to electronic experiments. Throughout the late '60s and '70s, he continued to score films, including Lady in Cement, The Undefeated, The Wrecking Crew, Tomorrow, and The Ambushers, among many others. He continued composing and recording until his death in 1981." (Oh, and he wrote the theme song for I Dream Of Jeannie ) (allmusic.com) Hugo Montenegro - MacArthur Park [...]

Every so often I'll hit upon a potential topic, only to find that it rapidly spirals into utter unwieldiness. Yesterday morning, I was lying awake in bed, looking at the ceiling and contemplating the sentential logic behind Rick Springfield's assertions that universally "we all need the human touch" and specifically Rick himself "needs the human touch," and how it all leads somehow to an art-directed and choreographed pop version of Beckett's Endgame , when I got the idea of doing a post focusing upon touch-related songs. With a couple witty comments already forming in [...]
