HoZac Records has unveiled the full Blackout Fest line-up just as tickets for the three-day punk rager went on sale Wednesday afternoon. As we previously reported , the rowdy punk and garage fest will return to the Empty Bottle this May 17-20. This year's edition will feature headliners Roky Erickson , Davilla 666 , and Redd Kross . Additionally, local acts Bare Mutants and [...]
1. Wild Flag , Wild Flag In a difficult era for unconceited, forthright rock, Wild Flag has seized an opportunity to act as a bantam foil to the wealth of snobbery that permeates almost every facet of modern alternative culture. In doing so, this infant group of alternative rock and riot grrrl veterans has also created something of an archetype for those who care not to weight marketability over substance or who simply want a balance of the two. Unlike bands who resign themselves to aping banal classic rock n' roll conventions (practically [...]

Photo by Jeremy D. Larson Ty Segall 's latest album Goodbye Bread received a lot of well-deserved critical attention earlier this year, but in a way, it left his live show in limbo. The 24-year-old San Franciscan had been bashing out energetic, mosh-filled shows built from his garage stomp catalog and a few well-placed covers. But Goodbye Bread is a thoughtful record- not slower or less energetic, exactly, but one where he leaves himself more room for vocal nuance and doesn't scream quite as often. It's a sizable aesthetic jump from [...]

Imagine with me if you will, Frank Zappa sitting down and writing and album involving alien abduction, cross species impregnation, mind altering experiments and finally alien invasion. Well, that is what Human Eye's new record They Came From The Sky precisely sounds like. This album really snuck up on me on the second listen. Human Eye has developed a sound that is saturated in guitar buzz, schizophrenic, fervor inducing hollow drums and just enough middle finger to conformity that hits right at home. The genre influences on this record range from experimental rock to various punk bands to [...]

Floating Action - "Well Hidden" Crook-seated and knee-crossed, cords and smudgy lenses, Matthew Marshall, Matt, writes on the cover of an unbroken journal. "A Summery Summary", he looks Junely out the sunny window and smiles with his hands, in the way he holds his pen. To be the main character of one's own story is a privilege earned and not a right handed down. Perhaps with a masters, or a fellowship, or a crisis, if this car were to crash fiery, he would jump forward in line, but for now the trees cut light and [...]
Detroit's Human Eye is a futuristic sound world with rock'n'roll roots that aims to assault all the senses. Fronted by Timmy Vulgar (formerly of the Clone Defects), who also released a solo record this past fall on Sacred Bones under the name Timmy Organism, the band's sonic palate ranges from heavy psychidelia to proto-punk and beyond. Their live shows are primal, chaotic and unpredictable,

Timmy Vulgar's been on a tear for the Sacred Bones label over the past few years; whether in the guise of Timmy's Organism or in the throes of Human Eye. Vulgar and crew take the form of the latter for their latest SB release It Came From The Sky but no matter which banner he's flying under, his Beefheart growl and characteristically offbeat reality shine through. Human Eye has always been the more ferocious of the two projects and their piercing edges flash and slash throughout this entry to the Bones canon. Vulgar's often had a bit of [...]

Another super 7" on the garage bands series of Scion A/V ... Super London trio Sex Beet with Detroit's Human Eye ... free download Scion A/V Garage: Human Eye / Sex Beet by ScionAV

Coming straight outta the London is the sexy Sex Beet . I've been eyeballing-and eardrumming-these lads for about a year now, and they keep getting noisier (noisier = better). The trio just birthed an otherworldly little monster called "Alone" for a split 7-inch with Detroit's Human Eye (via Scion A/V), and it's one of their best (best = noisiest) and catchiest yet. Sex Beet has been making their rounds, becoming the go-to opener for Wavves, Best Coast and Thee Oh Sees and dropping a rightfully noisy cover of Sonic Youth's "Dirty Boots" earlier [...]
Detroit fuzz-punk-psych rockers Human Eye caught our ears as we walked down 8th Street last night, leaving TV On The Radio at Stubb's. First the sound reeled us in, naturally, and then the live s... Continue reading "SXSW: Human Eye Wants To Have A Pizza Party" >

Human Eye/Sex Beet - Scion A/V Garage 7" Another great teamup in the A/V Garage series, this time paring Timmy Vulgur's Human Eye with fellow weird poppers Sex Beet. Human Eye keep things twisted with their usual stew of twisted guitars and sci-fi frazzle. This half of Vulgur's output has always had a bit more punk propulsion than his freakouts in Timmy's Organism and this track is a classic cut of their weirdo pop. On the flip Sex Beet don't pull things any closer to reality, but with a bit more levity and [...]
Scion A/V are releasing another 73, in a series of great split singles featuring great garage bands, and this time it is with Human Eye and NRBW uber-favs Sex Beet. The bands are no strangers to each other, as they've played Scion/Vice curated shows in Austin and NYC, so this all works really well together. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours Human Eye is a heavy, psychedelic punk act from Detroit, Mi. The band, which formed after the breakup of the Clone Defects in 2003, features Timmy Vulgar on vocals and guitar, Johnny Lazr on alien pianos and synths, Hurricane William on drums, percussion and sax, and Brad Hales on Bass. Renowned for their raucous live shows featuring masks and raw seafood, Human Eye will be playing five shows in two days at SXSW . Spinner spoke with Timmy Vulgar from his home [...]
