Every so often, while we're trolling the internet for new tunes, we come across something really awesome. We get excited, and start writing a post and then we realize it's been out for some time. So while we like to keep it fresh for you, sometimes we have to post a throwback or two. This particular throwback comes all the way from down under. Hungry Kids of Hungary , who are really are of Brisbane, have a youthful sound that's truly infectious. They have sounds that echo Vampire Weekend, but maintain their unique style through simplistic vocal [...]
Songs that so blatantly rely on the previously released works of others are often difficult to pen down. Whilst, if they are deemed post worthy by the HMCMB gremlins they are probably (we hope) quite good, their success are so clearly dependent on others that their inclusion seems downright unfair. But then again, we have enjoyed the sub 2 minute pop romp of the Australian Hungry Kids Of Hungary's (as well as their name), 'Wristwatch', so much that it simply had to be spoken about. The issue is, never before has a track so clearly mimicked the tropical [...]
Wednesday, June 29, 2011 Don't fall for their big, glazed eyes - if the Hungry Kids of Hungary look surprisingly well fed to you, it's probably because they're actually perfectly satiated ruffians of Australia. Don't let that keep you from being in a giving mood though. No, no - give these guys your ears, your interest, your luuurve. With a pungently punny moniker, you know this Brisbane-based four-piece certainly carry on with tongue-in-cheek, and their perfectly carefree, laidback musical tunage make them a rather fitting summer soundtrack. Anyone that's a [...]
REVIEWER: Rubi Tuesday. SHOOTER: Ben Davies [ see full gallery ] LINEUP: Hungry Kids of Hungary, The Chemicals, Andy Bull. Hungry Kids of Hungary played in Canberra on an unforgivingly cold Friday night. We walked in at 8:45pm and the place was already packed. Andy Bull started the night with his hauntingly beautiful set and his irresistible swagger. My god, I want to meet those vocal chords. The finale to his memorable set was the excellent "Black Dog"; met by enthusiasm for some but I witnessed an [...]
Well the Royal wedding is over. But that still hasn't stopped every news agency in Australia from flogging it for everything it's got. From the romance time-line of Will and Kate (I shit you not), to the Royal position they'll be adopting to consummate their marriage; if you want to know about it, hell even if you don't, they've probably already published a story about it. You want other news? There is no other news you communist! The world must stop doing things and follow the celebrations in awe. Suggesting anything else will be considered treason. [...]
"Wristwatch" - one minute forty-nine seconds well spent. In the smallest bit of time we get a hyperactive glimpse of Hungry Kids Of Hungary, new kids on the block from Australia. This track here's got an undeniable Vampire Weekend vibe, though I'm not complaining, because they've sparked up as much bouncy joyousness as VW's better tracks. Look for it in the sunny ascending harmonies, airy African synths, easy vibrato on the held out notes. But there's plenty other flavors to taste from these kids, some of which are surprising on first listen. The energy in opener [...]
Hungry Kids Of Hungary are back in Australia after their trip to North America for SXSW and Canadian Music Week. The group are getting ready to kick off their Final Escapade Tour in two weeks with a stop at Splendour In The Grass, with 'new arrangements, new songs, a new cover and some top secret collaborations on stage'. They'd also like you to download (free) an outtake from their last album called "Keep Talking", which didn't make their album but sounds album worthy to me. let it go don't lose your patience, oh you never tried to understand ♫ Hungry Kids of Hungary - Wristwatch Bum-budda-bum-budda-bum... oh, sorry. It's really hard to not rock out to that handclap/percussion combo. Kick that jumping guitar and old school Casio sound on top and "Wristwatch" is off like a rocket, lurching and sparking until it comes to rest less than two minutes after take-off. With a dash of Vampire Weekend in their blood these Australians have been winning over huge audiences back home for years. It's a damn shame [...]

[mp3] Hungry Kids of Hungary // Scattered Diamonds
Is there a worse name for a band than the one that these kids from Australia have chosen for themselves? Maybe, but I can't think of one off the top of my head. In fact, the name alone caused me to avoid their musical output for a while, fearing it was some kind of campy...

CAMPFIRE OK(Folk/Indie Rock)So it's spring break, I'm sick and pretty much everyone else associated with MTIB is running around the US having a blast. BUT I am NOT reveling in my own demise, and I am NOT asking for a pity party. I'm actually looking forward to a nice relaxing week. It will be a nice break from the madness. Why am I telling you this? Well, it's my long-winded way of saying I will
