I've never been a big fan of looking back, sure it's comforting to reminisce about the good old times... Hey you know everybody's talking about the "good old days" Everybody! The good old days Well, let's talk about the good old days..." - Gladys Knight But in my mind the past does more harm than good. If you think about the past so much you're going to constantly be ignoring what's happening to you right now. The past is good for one thing and one thing only - [...]
Hurricane Bells , the indie-pop tangent of Longwave's Steve Schiltz, got some attention in 2009 when a B-side, "Monsters," made the soundtrack for "The Twilight Saga: The New Moon." Last month, Schiltz released the second Hurricane Bells album, "Tides and Tales," a collection of fuzzy, jangly and effects-dotted gems that, while not earning any points for being boundary-breaking, offer plenty of nourishment for fans with ravenous indie-pop appetites. "The Ghost of Her" chimes almost effortlessly, exemplary of "Tides and Tales'" easy melodies and subtle charms. ||| Download: Via Consequence of Sound, "House on Fire." [...]

Thursday things: ► My Morning Jacket swings back through L.A. behind its Grammy-nominated 2011 release "Circuital," holding forth at the Gibson Amphitheatre with Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings opening. That's Jim James, above, at MMJ's show in August, 2010, at the Greek. ► Iggy and the Stooges play the Palladium in a show that was originally scheduled for September but was postponed after the 64-year-old rocker broke his left foot while on tour in Europe. Download: Fair Fjola - "Summer Song" If you are making a mixtape I dare you to find a better side-one track-one than "Summer Song!" I heard Fair Fjola's "No One Gets Any" for the first time early Monday morning and it's pretty much all I've listened to since. As a matter of fact it's so [...]

Hurricane Bells Tides And Tales Invisible Brigades [2011] Fire Note Review: Another smooth delivery of indie tracks on the sophomore effort from Hurricane Bells. Album Review: Tides And Tales is the sophomore record from longtime singer/guitarist of Longwave, Steve Schiltz, and his current moniker Hurricane Bells. The record continues his indie journey over these 12 tracks that can [...]
This song from Hurricane Bells has everything I look for in a good "meandering" tune. You know, the sort of song you play over your headphones when you're out for a stroll, soaking in the sites, people watching and the like. It's catchy, upbeat, and has a good walking bass line in it. The added bonus is the guitar solo that comes in about 3/4's through. It's not quite sure where it's going, but
Friday, October 28, 2011 Today's Quick Mention: The great Wild Flag roll into town tomorrow to play La Zona Rosa, and you absolutely have to be there. Doors at 8pm. Tickets are $15. Enjoy. : Keep Shelly In Athens - DIY : I'm not ready to jump on the suddenly very crowded bandwagon for this act, but I am ready to at least inch my way over to it with the [...]

Hurricane Bells ' sophomore full-length, Tides and Tales , picks up right where 2010's Tonight Is The Ghost left off. They're still working the Killers-plus-encroaching-depre ssion aesthetic over jangly guitars and quirky sound effects. While there are fewer standout tracks here than on their debut, Tides and Tales makes for a solid listen. Kicking things off with an odd, distorted squeak, Hurricane Bells luckily only dabbles in noises, instead mostly relying on quiet vocals, simple percussion, and straightforward guitar work. "Before I'm Gone" is one of the best examples of this, [...]

Tides and Tales is the second full length album from NY's Hurricane Bells , and was made possible in part by fans through a PledgeMusic campaign. The album opener "I've Got a Second Chance" foreshadows what you can expect from the rest of the album. It begins with an engine-revving intro which collapses into a stripped down introspective song, thus showcasing both sides of Hurricane Bells. While Hurricane Bells don't sound exactly like any other band I've come across, there are some comparisons that can be drawn. "Possibilities" [...]
This song gives me a good feeling somewhere in the vicinity of Byrds and Teenage Fanclub. Hurricane Bells' second album Tides and Tales is out this week. http://www.myspace.com/hurrica nebells

"But when the morning light comes, I'll be alright, oh yeah," frontman Steve Schiltz insists on "House on Fire", the last cut off Hurricane Bells ' latest LP, Tides and Tales . Over chummy distortion and a jangly drum beat, Schiltz adds his smooth vocals, keeping things fresh and positive. Like its chorus suggests, it's an early morning charmer, and one best suited for a light autumn stroll to work. Consequence of Sound has the exclusive download below, and if you enjoy that, it might be worth your while to pick up the rest of the [...]

The Ghost Of Her by Hurricane Bells On October 25th, Steve Schiltz is releasing Hurricane Bells' second disc, Tides and Tales , on his imprint Invisible Brigades. This 12-track / 40 minute disc builds on the melancholy late-night vibe of 2009's Tonight is the Ghost but, this time out, Schiltz utilized a full band during the recording process which leaves this disc sounding more cohesive than its predecessor. Contributing to this disc are: Ashen Keilyn (Scout), who's toured with Hurricane Bells from its inception; Christian [...]
There is an immense amount of music I want to share, hopefully I'll be able to get it all out in the next week. Did you ever watch that tv show where the girl could stop time by touching her fingers together? I thought it was mind blowing when I was like eight. If I [...]
I've never seen or plan on seeing any of the Twilight films, but I had the unexpected pleasure of hearing the New Moon soundtrack a few years back and was introduced to the gritty alt-rock of Steve Schiltz and Longwave. Music Player: [...]
