Filming the Halfway House Sessions are always a good time - and we like to think the bands would (mostly) agree. This time around Bloomington, Indiana's husband&wife opted to blow up a hundred or so white balloons for the occasion assuring that a grand old time would be had. And indeed it was. husband&wife's latest EP Proud Flesh is available for a ridiculously low $5.50 @ their bandcamp page . Check it . [...]
Sure, people talk about how amazing New York, Chicago, Austin and the like are. But that's easy. When a city is big, of course there will be cool stuff - because there are lots of people there. What about when a city isn't some huge metropolis and cultural center, but it somehow finds a way to be awesome? That's what On the Scene is about. We're kicking it off with Mike Adams of Husband & Wife and Crossroads of America Records , as he gives us the lowdown on Bloomington, [...]

The other night I saw Monahans open for Husband&Wife 's CD release show at The Bishop , and I was instantly sold. They mentioned during the set that they're releasing a new song every month as a free download. This is something they started in March, and with a ten track album, they'll be finished in December. I'm always intrigued when I hear of artists trying this. The danger is that the songs will sound too disjointed from each other, fighting each other as an album. Of course, that is assuming the intention [...]
Husband&Wife have a new album out, called Proud Flesh , and it's quite easily their strongest album yet. Husband&Wife began planning Proud Flesh several years ago, while they were working on Dark Dark Woods . Wanting to release a downbeat rock album first, they recorded Dark Dark Woods , and kept the upbeat songs for their follow-up. As a result, these songs are seasoned and well thought out. Last night Husband&Wife celebrated their [...]
:: Even Roseanne Cash gets down and dirty by playing house shows here and there. :: The Los Angeles Guided By Voices show is available for free download, but only for a limited time. :: WFMU is auctioning off a bunch of awesome stuff . Go buy something. :: As soon as The Jesus and Mary Chain finished Psychocandy , the band was already second guessing the record . Good thing it was left as is. :: Ted [...]

Our good friend, Bro. Stephen has had a few hand-made releases, but now in collaboration with Crossroads of America Records and Flannelgraph Records and their Laminar Excursion Monthly , he has a new record to share with us. Here's the skinny: The record was record completely live with an all-star band in one afternoon at Russian Recording in Bloomington, IN. There are 4 songs clocking in at exactly 20 minutes (the format is a 33 CD). These songs may be a bit different than [...]

Hey boys and girls, going to be near Bloomington this weekend? Well then you should head to XRA Fest ! There is a great lineup as always, and made even better that Backseat Sandbar 's very own Brother Stephen will be playing on Sunday! It'll set you back a well-spent $5 per night, or and even better spent $8 for both nights if you buy tickets in advance from TD's or Landlocked . Head over to the XRA Records site for some more info. [ download ] [tweetmeme] The title track from Indiana quartet husband&wife 's sophomore album is a reminder of simpler (and often more satisfying) times in the independent rock world, the bygone 1990s era when a bunch of dudes with guitars ruled the roost. In those days, groups like Guided by Voices, Dinosaur Jr., Sugar, and Built to Spill made their reputation with smart hooks and riffs which were both melodic and deceptively muscular. While husband&wife doesn't seek to overtly channel any of these acts in particular, they are evidently kindred spirits, building "Proud [...]

I got my first apartment in 2004 in Old Louisville. I had lived in the East End for a year when I first moved to town, but moving downtown really felt like my first big city experience. I grew up in a very small town in central Michigan so everything in Louisville seemed exciting, especially the music. I found myself a few times crammed into the Old Louisville Coffeehouse or Crescent Hill Baptist watching a number of bands like the great Poison Control Center or Harry and the Potters playing with who I thought was the greatest band I had [...]

Bloomington's Husband&Wife are working on their next album due out within the next few months. The band has posted two songs for a limited time as a free download. Promoted as a "zero inch" , side A of the digital single is a demo of Don't Stop , with a remix of I Got Fat on side B (originally on Dark Dark Woods ), remixed by Matt Coleman . Their upcoming full-length album has [...]

As I've settled in to my new home in Bloomington , Indiana, I've been getting to know who the local artists are, going to shows, and sitting down with people involved in the local music scene. According to Andy Goheen ( Sticky and the Bees , E.P. Hall ) who organizes shows for The Bishop , Bloomington has over 500 bands. Shortly after moving here Nicole O'Neal ( Hipster Spinster ) asked me to co-host a radio show with her. We decided to call it [...]
You heard it here first! Sales will open up on Monday, November 2nd and they are EXTREMELY limited to only 100 copies. Each 33 CD will be approximately 20 minutes of new, unreleased music from each artist. Lots of the bands involved frequently play here in Louisville, so it [...]

It's not every day that I get really excited about a show coming to town, but I am definitely jazzed about this one. husband&wife is a hard-working band from Bloomington, IN and they have traipsed through these parts enough in the past few years to pick up a solid following. They just recently put out a killer album called Dark Dark Woods and are out touring in support of it. I would endlessly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of bands like Pedro The Lion and Death Cab, but also fans of Low or [...]

Husband&Wife , long-time BG babyfaces, recently stopped by Daytrotter to record a great session . In addition, the band is planning to hit the road come March in support of Dark Dark Woods , which will be out Feb. 24 on Crossroads of America Records. From what I've heard of the album so far, which includes the track below, it's going to be top-notch. I can't wait to hear the rest of it. Husband&Wife - Haven't Got a Friend
