So, this is how it's going to be. Last.fm features a list of personalized recommendations, that change constantly, based on the bands you are listening to. Every week we are going to try out said recommendations and pick our favourite band from the ones recommended to us, which we will then proceed to feature on our blog. This week that band is: (*clapclapclapclapclapclapclap clap*) Hutch and Kathy Last.fm tags: indie, pop, boy-girl duet, [...]
How I start off the fun of the 8 day with a list of my favorite show moments I wasn't at as told in YouTube videos? read more

Before there was Sub Pop, the revolving lineup of drummers, The Body, The Blood, The Machine , and, of course, The Thermals , there was Hutch and Kathy. Previous to downing those pixie sticks and plugging in, Hutch (Harris) and Kathy (Foster) were an adorable acoustic duo best remembered by their 2000 self-titled full-length on the local Jealous Butcher label. The two had played together for years, in both Urban Legends and the lowercase-preferring haelah , but it was project number three that paved the way for [...]

It's been a long time since Portland, OR staples Hutch Harris and Kathy Foster were making sweet sweet indie pop that bordered on Dylan-esque guitar and harmonica and PURE FEELING with a whole lot of All Girl Summer Fun Band mixed in (no surprise then that Kathy was in that group too). Way back then, the music was all lo-fi wonder and exceptionally upbeat (maybe happy?) whereas The Thermals is all nasal defiance and shout out out outs to whatever target needs the venom. Hutch's nasal belting is still here, but what's most impressive [...]
I tried doing this last year but gave up after getting a C&D for a contraband file. C'est la vie du blogeur , I guess. I've been more careful about what I share, but even this list isn't the way I would want it. For one, LCD Soundsystem should really have something here and I'd rather post a different Andrew Bird track. 1. Kiss Kiss - Machines [mp3] One of the newest bands I'm most excited about is Kiss Kiss thanks to their solid debut Reality Vs. The Optimist. [...]
With all the stink made over Karen O's leaked demos , I'm glad we get to see some of our other favorite bands' early works. That is, assuming they don't outright suck. This episode brings us Hutch and Kathy -the broccoli and cheese of the Thermals - and their early formation as Urban Legends . I had a 7" I picked up over the summer that got me googling around this evening and found that Contraphonic is re-releasing a collection of those earlier demos and recordings on January 23rd titled Of Old Lost [...]
Way way back in 2002, before rocking with northwestern favorites The Thermals, Hutch Harris and Kathy Foster had an indie-folk past. There was 2002's Jealous Butcher release of the lovably DIY Hutch Kathy - An Infinite Loop

The Thermals "Here's Your Future" Hutch and Kathy "Infinite Loop" The Body, The Blood, The Machine, this year's release from Portland punks the Thermals, is easily one of my favorite records of 2006, maybe the best the band has produced. While this is something like the billionth blog to big up these guys, I guess I'll go ahead and share the opener off that disc, part one in a prolonged paranoid nightmare about America as a theocracy. (That'll never [...]
