I need a better title for this feature! Anyway as always lots going in the Irish Music scene! I have been fortunate enough to be in attendance to a few gigs recently. And some excellent shows they have been too! Little Palace - Backroom, Navan Thursday 9th April Little Palace have staged their own version of the Resurrection when they appeared again out of nowhere with an excellent album of Michael Brunnock penned tunes. I really enjoyed the gig due to the appreciation and enthusiasm of the [...]

I began the Mixtape4Melfi blog on 1st March 2008 in the hope of speading the word about great music I thought were at times ignored by the majority of the Blogsphere. I changed to the Irish Music only blog 2 U I Bestow to solidify the identity and objective of what I was trying to do. The feature I'm most proud of is the Ruby Tuesday feature where I give a small insight to a new artist trying to make it in the difficult music world. Here is the Best Of Ruby Tuesday: [...]

Bell X1 is a featured artist on ReverbNation.com, where you can listen to their new album in full here! I Am Not Left Handed Genre: Alternative / Lyrical / Indie From: London, ex-Dublin, United Kingdom I Am Not Left Handed are a predominantly Irish duo/trio, I'm not entirely sure if Benji is a member of the band or their faithful canine friend (I'm kidding of course I know that he is a former drummer with All About Eve ), based in London. There's nothing [...]
Not so much a competition as a giveaway as seen over there --->>>> I am giving away three sets of guest list passes for any of their three Irish gigs. Just get in touch with me if ya wanna see this new exciting band live! Leave a comment, send an email or get in touch with me on MySpace! 20 Feb 2009 The Pavilion - Audio Ill BELFAST, Northern Ireland 21 Feb 2009 Sky Venue PORTLAOISE, Laois 23 Feb 2009 Whelans [upstairs] w/ Vitruvius & Kitty and the Can Openers DUBLIN, Dublin
One of my favourite unsigned bands at the moment is the ridiculously named Kitty & The Can Openers. The band are from Belfast and make beautiful melodic folk pop songs. I found this 25 minute documentary style TV programme called Kick Out The Jams which includes interviews and live performances. Check out the band in Whelans 23rd Feb where they are supporting the equally brilliant I Am Not Lefthanded!

Bell X1 - Blue Lights on the Runway Well at least the single 'The Great Defector', which is as close to Talking Heads as you'll ever get. Even moreso than David Byrne's album with Brian Eno last year. It's a great little song, but it's not the direction I had hoped for. They'll never make an album as good as their first two. Totally different records than this or the last one, Flock , but both are oh, so good. Jason Isbell [...]

Peter over at 2UIBestow has been harping on about these guys, so I thought I'd see what all the fuss is about. Yes, they're very good. Thanks Peter. And also, yes, I am not left-handed. My girlfriend is, but I'm a righty! The following is taken from the band's mini-album Yes Means No , which I have had a chance to listen to, and think it's all sorts of wonderful. Download: I Am Not Left Handed - 'Long Goodbyes' Listen to more, and but the mini-album here: [...]

I love bands with a female singer like The Plague Monkeys, Alphastates or The Chalets. Joining this list is the band 'I Am Not Lefthanded'. I cannot recommend them enough. The band are Kathryn - Vocals/Guitar, Daniel - Vocals/Bass and Benji - Drums and have relocated to the Uk to make big ripples in a larger pond. I love how they have Roddy Doyle as an influence on their MySpace. The introduction on their website is so good I'll have to paste it here: "We don't play pop music, we don't write music for art's sake, we don't represent any [...]
After stumbling across the superb 'Long Goodbyes' and expressing my appreciation for the track I received a nice email from I Am Not Lefthanded with a copy of their latest EP. With Cougar Microbes only in its infancy I hadn't expected to receive pre-releases from label and bands just yet so this was a sweet gesture from the band. 'Yes Means [...]
I'm finding it very hard right now to find songs that fit. The ones that pull me are creased through with darkness - like love letters powdered black, they leave a fine, smudged residue that mottles my face and hands. I'm doing fine, but my listening material betrays me with ash on my fingers. It streaks through whatever I touch. I'm surprised, too, by the blackness. While it lasts, it lasts. Songs like 'Long Goodbyes' bring me back again. The song invites the bleakness in, then pours it out again, filtered in fight and [...]
