When we said we weren't doing any shows this month because of the necessary preparation time for July and August festivities, that was before we were gift-wrapped Saturday's show at Mr. T's Bowl. The mere mention of I Make This Sound, Blue Jungle, Robotanists, Seasons, and The Shade in the same sentence makes us jump for joy. Plus, the show is being held at T's, which we all know might be heading

Most of you already know this but for the few who don't I feel it's time for full disclosure. I play bass in The Monolators . A few weeks ago we unveiled the title track off our new full length entitled Don't Dance . I've reposted the track below for your downloading pleasure. We will be playing a large selection of tracks off the new album at TONIGHT's Rock With A Twist at All Star Lanes . The 4th annual friend fest features FREE MUSIC and FREE YUMMY DELICIOUS [...]

Los Angeles 7-piece I Make This Sound create the brand of sunshiney pop that you would expect from a band that hails from southern California. They mix muli-part vocals with intricate layering and create a soundtrack that is perfect for your summer BBQ. Their new EP Staring at Yourself is out now. mp3 : One, Two, Three!
Don't take this picture as an accurate description of this seven piece band from the west coast. I can't imagine they take themselves this seriously and as such I'm chalking this uber serious pose up to a good sense of humour salted with a penchant for irony. Regardless of whether or not you agree with my interpretation of one of their press photos {other shots included the playful gang holding balloons in a park getting buckets of water thrown on them} I'm sure you'll agree that their second EP, Staring At Yourself ( iTunes ), [...]
(as featured on This Week's Finds , Mar. 2-8) "Power to Change" - the Black & White Years Perhaps there has always been a fine line in music between the idiosyncratic and the gimmicky, but I'm guessing never more so than here in the 21st century--an age in which worldwide musical genres are a mouse-click away, and a multi-million-dollar recording studio is no longer required to manipulate sound. And so, these days, bands can rather too easily seem the contrived result of combining, oh, say, South African music [...]
An update on yet another recent posting , this one from L.A.-based band I Make This Sound . Their album debut show at the Echo went extremely well, and we've been sent copies of both of their CD's! Thanks to IMTS' own Jonathan Price for the great music, which I have been encouraged to share with the readers here. This is the kind of hard-working band that appreciates any support it receives, and for just five bucks a CD it's not likely [...]
Okay, I know Kip normally handles this category. However, my email box as well as my physical mailbox have now filled to the brim and I can no longer function. I will never realistically be able to post individual entries about all of these bands, so this is a nice way to give all of them exposure. Plus, it makes you do my work for me, and I'm happy to be as lazy as possible! If you're fond of any of these folks, let me [...]

Dear Breakups, No really, why is your pop powerless? I mean, I've been listening to your lovely new EP while jogging…am I doing it wrong? Help us sleep at night, let us in on the secrets of your musical classification system. We promise to do our best to spread the news of the "powerless pop", thus doing our part for the betterment of society at large. The world is been suffering a dangerous dearth information on this topic. We patiently await the inevitable manifesto. Love, LMS & The [...]
2008 is all about the EP. They're like the Hannah Montana Obama of recorded material. So how lucky are we to have two of L.A.'s finest celebrating the release of their respective EPs on the same night? I Make This Sound's Staring at Yourself and The Breakups' Eat Your Heart Out might not get the attention of a Graduation vs. Curtis, especially since both bands are habitual bedfellows in L.A.'s

After spending the day at one of Los Angeles' fine film studios, it occurred to me – not for the first time – how hard it is to differentiate where the studios end and the smog-covered reality of Hollywood begins. Then again, reality is overrated. Reality involves over-due credit card payments, and rent, and unreturned phone calls. I'm more concerned with interesting diversions. Thankfully, fellow Los Angelinos I Make This Sound have unveiled their new daydream soundtrack, the aptly named EP, Staring at Myself 1 . Escapists at heart, on their newest offering, [...]
Kanye West and Daft Punk - Stronger (live at the '08 Grammys) Rather disappointing. It certainly doesn't compare to these performances: Daft Hands and Daft Bodies By now, you've probably also heard that Obama beat Clinton over the weekend. I mean at the Grammys too. He won a Grammy for spoken word recording, beating Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter. I Make This Sound - King and Queen I
Monday, February 11, 2008 And so the NFL season all the way wrapped up yesterday with the Pro Bowl. I know most people don't care about it, but even with a large number of the players originally selected not actually in attendance it was nice to see one last game. Now if only the draft would hurry up and get here. Here's an EP to help kick off a new week. Enjoy. : SoKo - Love No (The Teenagers Cover) : After taking a [...]
Just when we thought that all of those 2005 era (yes that was ages ago) indie bands of more than five members had fallen out of favour, a new music collective sneaks up and has us smitten with what we are listening to. I Make This Sound is a lovely seven piece consisting of members Mike Hopkins (drums), Heather Kafka (keys, vocals), Jeremy Levy (percussion, vocals), Jillinda Palmer (keyboard),

The 7 piece LA band I Make This Sound will soon be releasing their second EP titled Staring At Yourself . If you're in the LA area and looking for a pre-Valentine's Day treat, consider hitting up their CD release show at The Echo on Feb 13th, where they'll be joined by friends The Breakups, Amateurs, and Le Switch. Want a quick preview? Check out a few of the tracks below from the upcoming record: I Make This Sound - "King and Queen" I Make This Sound [...]

The breakups hail from Hollywoodland, California. Their classic pop sensibility and adventurous arrangements have them working in the same musical milieu as other modern pop staples like The Shins, Fountains of Wayne, Elliott Smith, Nada Surf, Wilco, and Michael Penn. Combine those modern ideas with a love for classic sound of Emitt Rhodes, The Clash, The Zombies, and a certain "B" band from Liverpool and you have the breakups special brand of "powerless pop." The Breakups will be releasing a new six song EP, Eat Your Heart Out , and wil debut it on February 13th at [...]
