I was thinking out loud to myself a few weeks ago, wondering if I Monster was planning on releasing new music any time soon. So I Googled 'em and found out that they do indeed have a new album — Swarf — and it's availible to stream/download off Bandcamp . The best way I can describe I Monster, a duo from the UK comprised of producers Dean Honer and Jarrod Gosling, is if The Beatles and The Beach Boys made music in modern times on shrooms and/or acid. Or, you can allow the [...]

I Monster first emerged from the dark woods of Sheffield and both scared us, then soothed us, with their scratchy-chilled tune "Daydream in Blue." Lifting the main sample from the Gunter Kallmann Chorus the track has developed a life of its own since it first appeared and has been featured in films, TV shows and many major advertising campaigns. The song was also recently sampled and covered by Lupe Fiasco and featured Jill Scott. Now, more than a decade on, "Daydream in [...]

I Monster is a British duo comprised of producers/songwriters Dean Honer & Jarrod Gosling. They formed in 1997 and released their debut album These Are Our Children the following year. In 2001, they signed to Instant Karma and released the single "Daydream In Blue" which became a UK Top 20 hit. The song has since been used in numerous TV ad campaigns and in 2007 was sampled heavily by Chicago rap artist Lupe Fiasco. I Monster - Daydream in Blue The band’s sophomore album, [...]

I Monster - The Best [Tina Turner]
I Monster - Cool Coconuts A Jens Lekman-style cocktail pop song about being stuck in a desert army base and longing for the coolness of your lover back home. A great tune for when the drill sergent is on your back or, y'know, just whenever you could do with a laidback, infectious melody. A Dense Swarm of Ancient Stars is out now on Twins of Evil. I love pleasant surprises. It seems whenever I feel a bit bored or as if every other message in my inbox is about the same exact band, someone sneaks in something unexpected. Run Hide Survive are a DJ duo from Sheffield. They've taken on stages at Glastonbury, Fabric and Field Day, and shared turntable duties with Erol Alkan, Herve and Simian Mobile Disco. Not a bad resume, is it? I'll confess that before I was sent this remix I'd never heard of them, but you can bet I'll have an eye out for future [...]

You know it's a real party when you can't NOT have a 40 oz show up in your picture Ok, I'm still recovering from Movement/DEMF . It was great, good, bad, and awful (the festival was full of great stuff, I mean I interviewed/hung out with Neil Landstrumm the other day, and there were lots of moments like that...the personal stuff was rough though). It's gonna take me a while to explain that one and I'd rather get to the music I haven't had a chance [...]

The latest EP from one of the best labels so far this year (Nightshifters, i.e. home to AC Slater, Hostage, DJ Donna Summer...) gave us Rob Threezy . And Rob Threezy has provided us with a killer selection of songs. The reason I post this so excitedly is because when I DJ with Chris (in Mugshots), he sometimes plays tunes that I have no idea what they are and I beg him to tell me what they are - the past few times this has been responded with the answer 'Rob Threezy'. Mr Threezy delights us with bass injected [...]
