Here's some unlikely news - Ian Brown not only writing songs for Rihanna, but deciding that they're too good for her? Gordon Smart has the scoop : He was snapped in his native Manchester filming the video for new song Stellify - which was meant for RIHANNA. Ian, who releases sixth solo album My Way in September, said: "As we got to the end of writing it I thought, 'You know what? I'm gonna keep this for myself.'" Gordon doesn't seem in any way surprised that Brown would be writing songs to [...]
For his sixth solo LP, former Stone Roses frotman Ian Brown will pay tribute to Michael Jackson. However, not in the way you may think. " Thriller was our blueprint," Brown explained in a recent interview with NME. "Every time we wrote a song we didn't think was strong enough, we scrapped it. We mastered it on the day that Michael Jackson died too, so I'm taking that as a good omen." Yes, folks, unlike every other Jackson inspired album that will surely hit music shelves in the coming months, My Way [...]

I was never a big fan of Michael Jackson , however nobody can deny the fact that he kept us entertained in many ways - both intentionally and not so much. Anyway, today's Under The Covers is dedicated to the great Moonwalker. R.I.P. Jacko, you will be missed. Fall Out Boy feat. John Mayer - Beat It (Michael Jackson cover) Ian Brown - Thriller (Michael Jackson cover) Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal (Michael Jackson cover) [...]

Toronto - I guess everyone has had their say on Jacko biting it the other day. What a weird, weird day. First Farrah Fawcett dies, then Michael Jackson, then the NBA draft. What's with all these two bit celebrities giving their opinions and sentiments? I think it's just their chance to grab a lil publicity. Corey Fieldman showed up somewhere! Yay. Anyways, it goes without saying that Michael Jackson changed the face of music with his music. I'll let others dissect and analyze whatever his legacy is, but we all know he was important and I think his [...]

Well, it was inevitable, wasn't it? I had another Friday Five with a really great theme ready to go, but then last night's news broke and I figured everyone would end up talking about this anyway. So with a startled 'Yip!' and a hearfelt 'Shamone!' here's your Friday Five: 1. What's your earliest memory of Michael Jackson as a performer? 2. The media is making a great deal of the trilogy of albums Jackson made with Quincy Jones; Off The Wall , Thriller and Bad . Words such [...]

As I cycled home from work tonight my neighbours were just finishing up a barbeque that was made possible by the excellent Irish weather. I politely accepted their generous offer of a glass of wine and took a seat beside them. "Did you hear that Michael Jackson died?" was not the first question that I expected to be asked. I had seen a comment on Facebook earlier that alluded to his death, but I didn't pay it any mind. Another neighbour came out of her house holding a bottle of Bud in one hand and an Off The Wall CD [...]

The NME has a great little interview with Stone Roses vocalist Ian Brown and producer John Leckie on the remastering of the band's debut album, which will be re-issued in August 2009. Check out the two of them talking...

The Stone Roses have announced details of the highly anticipated deluxe 20th anniversary edition of their 1989 self-titled debut album. Original producer John Leckie has returned to the studio with frontman Ian Brown to remaster the album, which will be released in the US on August 11 via Silvertone/Legacy. Somebody better warn Pete Doherty, now he can't blantantly rip off Ian Brown anymore. Oh wait...

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words, and although this particular poster may have a fair few words scattered over it, the sentiment certainly appears to be ringing true as "Gold Lion"'s vocals are shaking my house to pieces and all I can envisage is being in the front row for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with my hands aloft as the sun departs Bramham Park and wings its way south, past Reading, leaving Leeds to a night of every teenager's wet dream; the immaculately planned chaotic hedonism of the Duracell Tent (or the Silent Disco if you're [...]

There is to be no Stone Roses tour. Ian Brown and John Squire say so . Given they've not agreed on anything in two decades, that's got to be significant. "I guess the 20th anniversary of the album has got folk speculating," said a spokeswoman for the former guitarist. The statement added: "John Squire has just completed another exhibition in London and has plans to take it to Japan in July. Right now this is his priority. " The people of Japan would never forgive him if he put that on [...]

Man, you travel to TX for one day, and in that time The Stone Roses both reunited and disbanded again. Well, that's if you follow the rumors printed in the British tabloids. Yesterday, The Daily Mirror exclusively reported that the band was preparing a 21 gig UK tour this summer to accompany the boxed set reissue of their debut LP. An appearance at Coachella was also mentioned. Citing a "source," the Mirror actually went on to say that both John Squire and Ian [...]
