Always a somewhat problematic predicament is the side-project: whether it arouses foreseeable, feasible tensions or indicates endemic issues with the collaborative creativity of the artist(s) involved, it's a term sullied by multitudinous howlers. Last year's pairing up of Lou Reed and Metallica provided an example as unequivocal as any as to why sticking to the day job, however dirgy or dreary it may be, is an unadventurous direction that should sometimes be followed. It was largely regarded as the defecating on and defacing of not one but two illustrious legacies and the potential perils and jagged-toothed traps around [...]
When was the last time you were knocked out by a record on first listen? It happens less and less frequently for me, but I'm happy to report just such an occurance this weekend upon listening to Happy Soup , Baxter Dury 's just-released third album. I've been aware of Baxter Dury - yes, son of Blockheads frontman Ian Dury who put Baxter on the cover of his 1977 classic New Boots and Panties - since [...]
A strong return from singer/songwriter Baxter Dury (son of Blockheads' frontman Ian Dury). "Claire", the lead track from Dury's upcoming Happy Soup LP for Parlophone, sounds international (global?); the song draws from a widely reaching musical palette; it sounds like Dury's home, the UK (60's pop, 80's, current electro and indie), it sounds like NY, it sort of sounds like France, maybe Brazil. But aside from all that, it's really really good. Get into it below. Baxter Dury - Claire Baxter Dury [...]
In the deserts of Sudan And the gardens of Japan From Milan to Yucatan Every woman, every man hit me!" I've been in the city for a month now and it's starting to feel like an eternity. Music and traveling have been synonymous for me since I was 4 feet tall and I'm starting to think I need it more than I enjoy it. The change of scenery, the different cultures, the people, the climate changes, the customs, the airport, I just have this deep appreciation for everything that is traveling... [...]

Filed under: Twisted Tales When the United Nations declared 1981 the International Year of Disabled Persons, one man was outraged. Ian Dury , an old British punk (then almost 40), wrote a little protest ditty called 'Spasticus Autisticus,' expressly designed to provoke offense. The BBC, predictably, banned it. Dury had a personal reason for the catchy diatribe: At age 7, he contracted polio while swimming in a public pool and was left with a gimpy arm and leg for life. "Hello to you out there in Normal Land!" he [...]
Telonius aka Jonas Telonius Imbery has getting quite a lot of love recently, his tracks 'Like What' & 'Disco Tec' charted really well in Germany and his blend old school techno and house music has seen him getting a lot of play time. His current project see's him making music that blends early house with Techno aesthetics. By recycling elements of the past, he is creating his own new sexy sound. Think of a German Aeroplane or Mylo, but a bit more edgier. Telonius has decided to interpret Ian Dury's classic 'Hit me with the rhythm stick' and [...]

Ian Dury :: New Boots And Panties
In the wake of pop's rediscovery of itself, prompted by the blitzkrieg success of punk, 1977 proved to be a banner year for debut albums. Most of the artists concerned were promising newcomers, but a fair number were veterans in new guises. In the UK, musicians who had cut their teeth in the back-to-basics pub-rock [...]
