Two Wounded Birds are truly the British equivalent to the USA’s Brooklyn based vintage surf pop dreamers, The Drums. They share a similar love for 50/60s throwbacks, conventional pop structure and cliched song titles (Together Forever), but yet still hold onto that familiar British sense of melancholy. Replacing quirky synths and tie dye for a stricter regime of leather jackets and crackly amps, It’s was the almost perfect match up then that this Margate quadruplet supported the Drums during their European tour. Since then, the band have gone from strength to strength, honing their idiosyncratic fusion of hazy pop and [...]

Friday 23 rd of September saw the opening night of the Brighton Weekender at the Hope. A two evening event raising funds for Amnesty international, it was perhaps a little disappointing not to see a stronger turn out to appreciate local talent playing for such a worthy cause. The night began in a low key manner with The Vaudevilles, described as being “three quarters perfect” by following act New Union, with that final quarter being the unplanned absence of drummer. Not to be discouraged by this they opted for a more [...]

Brighton's Ice Black Birds aren't doing anything fancy, but rather simply doing all the little things really well. Single 22:22 is one of those increasingly rare, timeless rock songs that could be slipped in alongside The Yardbirds, The Stones or The Doors as easily as Jet of The Black Keys. Short, fast and angry isn't the best way to do a lot of things, but music is the notable exception. The band's third record, also called 22:22 , will be released on March 21st, [...]

Ice Black Birds bring the rock. They've got a similar southern garage-rock sound that a young band by the name of Kings Of Leon once had. Check out their incredible new single, "22:223. It's no bullshit rock & roll in its purest form. They make rock & roll sound fresh and exciting during a time where it has practically lost its identity. Kudos to you, Ice Black Birds. Download it below. It's got me buzzing on all kinds of levels: [mp3]: Ice Black Birds - 22:22 The single drops [...]

Proud to be different, Brighton's purveyors of indie-dance-blues Ice Black Birds announce the release of their debut single "Ears To the Ground" along with a string of UK tour dates. Coming from Brighton, you'd expect a rather different sound to emerge from young band Ice Black Birds which features guitarist/lead vocalist Sam Denniston , lead guitarist George Grinling , bassist Harry Bohay-Nowell and drummer Pierre McFarlane . However, this band are looking to set themselves apart from the pack with their [...]

i officially defeated the widely circulated belief that new years eve is never as good as it should be. it was better.
