Shades: Clear Motions - Shades are a 4-member band from Boise, ID. Taking inspiration from chill wave artists like Small Black and Washed Out , Shades make their strong debut on Synthemesc . While chill wave is still in it's infancy, there's always going to be room for someone with a new perspective. But, while Shades' style can be compared to the aforementioned bands, they do manage to establish a distinct sound and vision that set themselves apart... [...]
As promised a couple weeks back in my Faves of 2011 post, I have extra vinyl editions of two of those fine records to grant to some lucky souls. And they couldn't be more different: Camp Radio 's "Campista Socialista" full-length and Idaho 's "You Were A Dick" LP. A blast of Canadian trio power-pop and one man's LA-based, keyboard-driven melancholia. As I started prepping this giveaway this morning, Chromewaves happened to post a review of the Camp Radio album (confluence!), so head over there to read Frank's thoughts, then come back [...]
![NORTHWEST EVENTS: Heiroglyphics Tour Dates [01/29-02/06]!](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4016615_lg.jpg)
CLICK PICTURE TO VIEW FLYER I was just asking a friend of mine about the HIERO crew the other day lol. The whole entire Hieroglyphics crew (minus Deltron 3030 ) will be having a mini-tour covering the NorthWest coast. They'll be covering Seattle, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho, with each member performing material from their upcoming solo efforts. I hope they make it down south because it's been a minute since we've heard from these legends (wow. apparently I missed out). Read The Tour [...]

Continua a leggere Idaho: dopo sei anni Jeff Martin torna con You Were [...]

Idaho band Night Genes will be releasing their LP "Like the Blood" on January 31st. Today they've sent over the first track from the upcoming album, called " Cyber Me"; the track is simply superb, sooth, and kind of suave, playing the baritone voice of their lead singer Eric Ingersoll. Night Genes - Cyber Me [...]

Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas, Welcome to Part two of our delicate feel around Santa`s most prized possession - His sack. More seasonal melodies and holiday one-offs to listen/download while roasting your nuts in front of a two-bar electric fire, armed with one of those strange tasting mulled wines. First off, Dublin based Indiecater Records never fail to deliver when winter downloads are concerned. We`ve taken one track from the huge 17 track Christmas compilation from way back in 2008 and one from ` A Special Indiecater Christmas Gift ` EP released this month. The Very Most [...]
BEST OF 2011 : Songs | Albums (soon) | EPs/Singles | Discoveries/Heavy Rotation | Photos A really good year! The first 40 or so are mega-jams and the latter 38 (Rawkblog loves you, baby) are still jams. I purposefully left out songs by Destroyer because I couldn't decide, so consider Kaputt represented. You can play the entire page with the handy Ex.fm player in the bottom right corner, stream the playlist on Spotify and Rdio , and download everything after the jump. [...]

Never Doubt by customaryhiphop Nice little back drop from the Mc/Composer.."Customary" here's what's said: You better believe I'm doing a Christmas album! It's gonna be fire! This is gonna be the most chill, smooth Christmas album ever done! I will also be releasing another solo project and another instrumental album soon, so be on the lookout for more tunes from Customary Music. WIB TIS THE SEASON! Frank Ocean is so smooth he once successfully sold me a beach house in Idaho. His Lincoln Town Car is full of broken hearts (read: dead bodies) and I would still accept a ride from him. He can't play guitar like Van Halen, nor does he have any secret chords like Saint David, but I am still obsessed with every song in my iTunes with his name on it. So when you combine that kind of suavity with London-based dubstep producer SBTRKT 's ambient synths and semi broken beat drums, you pretty much have a recipe for the [...]
![[Hype Hype Hooray] The Knotty Pine: A Wild Mountain Venue From Another Dimension](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3725903_lg.jpg)
Every [two weeks?] Jamie Hale takes a long, hard look at the music industry and the blog scene that feeds it. Here, he releases those findings and makes snarky, sarcastic remarks. Admittedly, both Jamie and Knox Road are a part of this scene. So sue us. I stepped into the Knotty Pine on a crisp Tuesday night. The venue, located in Victor, Idaho (population 840), looks like an old mountain cabin on the outside and is decorated as such on the interior. Adorning the walls were photos of bands that have come through next to several [...]
![[Listen/Download] – Youth Lagoon – "Cannon"](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3707125_lg.jpg)
Tweet The concept of one guy doing an entire album himself, recording it in his bedroom and playing every instrument, is a far cry from being new or groundbreaking, still I'm blown away by Trevor Powers and his ability to shape his songs so dynamically. Although Powers may not care to impress anyone, "Cannons" is fully charged with the desire to prove himself. As this song develops there's a definite presence that indicates how much he had to hold himself back with the instrumentation. [...]
![[Introducing] – TEENS](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3701050_lg.jpg)
Tweet From Boise, Idaho, come garage poppin', surf rockin' TEENS . But if this is garage-pop, it's a little dirtier, a lot more lo-fi; if this is surf-rock, it's about as close to surf rock as Beat Happening ever got, which is to say, I'm glad they went in another direction. Though they list their direct influences as the 13th Floor Elevators, The Animals, The Byrds and The Zombies, I was grateful that the sound doesn't immediately give it away. TEENS have a [...]

We won't call out some of the obvious one's in this playlist but we will say this weather channel business is really put the scare in the upper North East. The sheer scale of it has people literally running for the hills to seek higher ground. Anyway this play list goes out to user @daanvanrossum because he asked me what was on my Hurricane playlist and i just told him I daho's You Were A Dick was a good rain record and walked away. That was sort of rude but I told him I'd work on [...]
Los Angeles based singer songwriter Jeff Martin, who records under the name Idaho, has just released a new record, You Were A Dick. On this record, Martin puts a very personal spin on heartfelt, simplistic songs. At times the album sounds like you are looking through a kaleidoscope with all the different song parts moving and morphing into something unconventional and appeasing, but not always that captivating. At times, songs like "Weigh It Down" carry the same mysterious sound of the down tempo Radiohead songs via In Rainbows . Martin really doesn't overstay his welcome on any [...]

You were a Dick by idaho The Los Angeles-based band Idaho started out as part of the early 90s slowcore scene in California, with their 1993 debut and subsequent early LPs drawing comparisons to bands like Red House Painters, and American Music Club. While those bands either fell by the wayside or disintegrated into nothingness, Idaho soldiered on through the next decade, remaining in relative obscurity throughout their existence. It's been 6 years since their last release, the experimental the Lone Gunman , but the band has now returned with a slightly more traditional sounding [...]

Idaho has been parting the sonic fog to put a finger on the sun since the early 90s, pioneering the sadcore movement along with the Red House Painters, Low, and Codeine. Since the very beginning Idaho has stuck to its musical guns, crafting slow, seductive, rawly emoted songs on trademarked de-tuned 4 string guitars without giving two shits whether anyone was listening or not. As such, this is pure, unpretentious, unaffected rock that Idaho loyalists have been inhaling for nearly 2 decades. Idaho's new album, You Were a Dick , is [...]
