Idiot Glee - I Want The Night To Stay Idiot Glee - All Packed Up Idiot Glee's James Friley calls it "post-doowop", which is a neat name for something that's actually kind of complicated to describe. It's super easy listening - more in the way that it's warm and pleasant and sort of exciting than in the way that's a type of radio station - but it's not totally easy-describing. It takes more than three words, anyway. It's definitely tropical, and James Friley's definitely a perfectionist. There's the [...]

Opening track to Idiot Glee 's new 73 is a glistening do-wop barbershop quartet ditty that well resonate in even the tightest quarters. Friley's multi-tracked croon is uniquely unmistakable and is charming enough to coax even the most pretentious lady. His brand new, self-titled, EP is available through Hop Hop Records in 73 form as well as a digital download. Idiot Glee - I Want The Night To Stay

Well worth a few hours exploration is the excellent BEKO Digital Single Label , who offer a free download from a different artist each week. MP3: Idiot Glee 'A Happy Day'

It seems like ages ago that a couple of our bordering blog buddies turned us on to Idiot Glee , the Lexington, KY-based synth-project from James Friley. We've been enthusiastically following Friley since and even welcomed him to Indianapolis a short while ago for an MOKB Presents showcase with Butler Scion. Today, through digital French label, Beko , Idiot Glee released the free digital single Happy Day and b-side Forever Kids ... [...]

A lot has been brewing in the camp of Idiot Glee since IGIF premiered his sound to the interwebs in November. James Friley, the man behind the band, has put together a short EP, embarked on small tours, recorded a session at Daytrotter , and is currently working on his debut LP. Amidst all the hustle and bustle these last few months, Idiot Glee released a new digital single on French label Beko we're happy to share: [MP3] Idiot Glee - Happy Day [...]

Also, listen up at the end of the show for details on a ticket giveaway to an upcoming show this weekend. Tune in here at Indie-Verse at 4 PM CST and listen up. 1) Jay Reatard - Francis Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on [...]

Hands up if like us you've somehow managed to avoid discovering whatever the hell everyone is talking about when referring to the popular culture phonemenon Glee . We guess that means we're still not down with the kids but our ears have been distracted by fresh jams sent by our buddy James Friley AKA Idiot Glee . Taken from his split tape on Itslips , 'Percussion' does exactly what it says on the tin; a deep, half melodic-half hypnotic call to the underworld hummed and chanted out around a dusty Arizona campfire. Definitely more glee [...]
[MP3] Idiot Glee - Ain't No Sunshine Here's your bizarre music fact of the day - when Bill Withers originally recorded "Ain't No Sunshine" he was working at a factory making toilet seats for airplanes (how's that for a day job?). Since the song went on to become one of the all time greats , it should come as no surprise it's been covered by nearly everyone under the sun. Now the IGIF discovered and loved Idiot Glee has taken a stab at [...]

(photo cred : Matt Jordan) The Lexington-base Idiot Glee , James Friley's (the classically trained pianist who also plays in Kentucky rock outfit Bedtime ) new solo project, has glamored the Kentuckiana bloggers of late. He recently covered one of my all-time favorites... MP3 : Idiot Glee : Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers cover) ------------------------------ -------------------------- [...]

1. Open inbox 2. Fill ears with delight That's pretty much the order of how it happened once I got an email about Idiot Glee from the man himself. He reminds me of a nearly a cappella Grizzly Bear (especially with "All Packed Up"), except a little more wholesome. These pretty little ditties are short, sweet and downright addictive. There are no words, just turn, smile, shift, repeat. Idiot Glee - All Packed Up Idiot Glee - I Want The Night To [...]

Props to the comforting tunes of Idiot Glee [and the smell of the french toast my roomie made] for getting me up this morning, 6:30am is a harsh buzzkiller. Bathing in the aura of a boy mixing Beach Boys and Grizzly Bear on his record player, Idiot Glee's first taste of tunes are getting me so psyched for 2010... I might not even listen to anything else for the rest of the year. Just toss these tunes in a playlist with Memoryhouse and call it a day! James says there's a "7inch set for late February w/ 'All [...]

I helped The Constantines celebrate their 10th birthday by attending their Friday show at Lees, as part of their 10 year anniversary tour (hopefully coming to a town near you). Congrats to this band who have weathered tough years in the music industry. They've brought us hours of solid tunes and hazy memories of their live performances. Their performance of Nighttime/Anytime (It's Alright) was what I'd call spiritual. Pretty sure it moved everyone in that room. The side of me that winds down from listening to the above, [...]

Idiot Glee - All Packed Up I wished all my weekends could sound like this. But so began Saturday, with a link to the soothing, Panda Bear-like sounds of Idiot Glee (James Friley of Lexington, Kentucky). At the moment he's got a gorgeous four-track demo, a Daytrotter session booked for late January and some appearances lined up at SXSW 2010. Get on it. (photo cred : Matt Jordan) I was happy to see my Kentucky brotha-from-anotha-mutha YouAintNoPicasso.com giving some love to Lexington-based Idiot Glee . I discovered Idiot Glee a few weeks ago when I attended a Holiday Shores/Evangelicals show down in Louisville. I came in after his performance but I was happy to see he was giving away free CD-Rs of his 4-song demo, so I promptly stashed one away for the ride home. I had no info on the track names, but luckily [...]

Dang dude, J Fills, a.k.a. Idiot Glee , is blowing the hell up, poised to be like the next My Morning Jacket or Hair Police or Oldham or Exile or Henry Earl or Slint. He's all up on Prefix and MTV and Said The Gramophone and we'll see many more as the trickle-down effect takes place. So watch out, ya'llz! I have a copy of his demo CD-R that I will sell on eBay in five years for $600. With all that said, though, he totally deserves it. His band Bedtime was solid. These songs [...]

Idiot Glee caught our eye not so long ago when he started getting showered with nothing but love from all the best corners of the WWW and rather uncontroversially we've also been digging James Friley running his glowing lullabies through the rosy-cheeked, neverending melodies. Even less shocking is that it was the 1:32 summation of so many fearless nights which touched a nerve with us; 'I Did It Sober' is the story of starting strong but giving in to tranquil wooziness and invisible hugs before falling back into bed. [...]
