With bristling new album The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy up their sleeve Nada Surf are hot on the campaign trail. After the slow-burning wig out of When I Was Young , Waiting For Something is more in the classic Nada Surf mould: Three-and-a-half minutes of irresistible power-pop complete with shining melodies and swooping harmonies. Recorded quickly with the aim of capturing the energy of their live show, The Stars... succeeds in being perhaps the most fun the group have ever sounded on record, and after the low-key covers [...]

Directed by Jan-Ole Gerster, the video was shot in Nuremberg, Munich and Dresden while on tour in Europe. The song is available to download below. Nada Surf - Enjoy the Silence (right click)

Nada Surf's version of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence", from their covers album "If I Had a Hi-Fi". Filmed and directed by Jan-Ole Gerster during last summer's (2010) European Tour. Nada Surf had more than one LP hit the streets last year. There 2nd album, was If I Had A Hi-Fi , a collection of likely and unlikely covers. Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" alongside the Go-Between's "Love Goes On" with Kate Bush's "Love and Anger," The Moody Blues' "Question" and [...]

This was the view from my window as I woke up this morning in Oxford. When you're treated to views such as this you know it's going to be a good day. Friday night was great and felt like a proper summer's evening. This song is perfect for hazy sunny evenings, of which I hope there will be many this summer. You may just remember him as Klaus Says Buy The Record from a show called Orange Unsigned Act , but don't hold it against him. Now just Klaus , Into The Blue is [...]

You gotta love them, you really do. I recently selected Nada Surf 's 2002 album Let Go as one of indie-pop's brightest hidden gems, and yesterday, as if on cue they released details of their upcoming release If I Had a Hi Fi, due out on June 9th. Roping in a collection of esteemed friends - including Martin Wenk (Calexico), Phil Peterson (Kay Kay and the Weathered Underground), Joe McGinty (Losers Lounge, Psychedelic Furs) and Holly Miranda – the band have recorded an album of rather unusual covers. I'm not usually a great fan of [...]
We think the world needs a lot more Nada Surf just about, oh, right now. And fortunately for us -- and the rest of the planet -- the Brooklyn retro-pop/rock trio is back not a moment too soon with a spanking new album of twelve eclectic and inspired covers: the palindromically titled if i had a hifi , dropping June 8 via their own Madev Records. Everyone from Kate Bush to Depeche Mode to Dwight Twilley to The Moody Blues get the special Nada Surf treatment on hi-fi, a style that draws from the likes of 60's [...]

Well will you look at that? We finally get a Nada Surf track available for download from their new covers album, if i had a hi-fi , which I covered in some detail (including a bevy of supporting tour dates) at the beginning of January. It's their warm take on Bill Fox's "Electrocution". The Nada Surf fellas announced it on their MySpace earlier today, but, like, I'm a busy person and couldn't get around to posting it until now. So smother it with hot sauce, eat it up, and enjoy. Nada [...]

Nada Suf is heading out on the road soon , and if you get to see them, you'll also be able to pick up their new record, if I had a hi-fi , a super cool record of covers, before everyone else. Today the Surf announced the commercial release date for hi-fi (June 8th), which will be available on CD, digital, and vinyl. They also announced the rather eclectic [...]

MUSIC NEWS - Nada Surf announced plans to bring their trademark sense of harmony and musical craftsmanship to 12 of their favorite tunes with the release of, if i had a hi-fi , their first album of covers. Fitting that a group with wide-ranging and eclectic taste would bring songs from such artists as Kate Bush, Moody Blues, Dwight Twilley and the Go-Betweens together into an intelligent record. hi-fi also includes some intriguingly obscure [...]

Intriguing much? Nada Surf is releasing an album of 12 covers of their favorite songs, titled if i had a hi-fi . The songs are all over the place genre-wise, including blues, spanish music, power-pop, and everything in between. Although a great deal of thought went into the song selections, the band's intent is not to make an overarching musical statement. Singer-guitarist Matthew Caws says, "We really just wanted to do it organically, whatever we felt like covering in the moment, rather than trying to sum up our influences or something. It's whatever [...]

Nada Surf is setting themselves up for quite the busy spring with a new record of cover songs and a big spring tour covering the States and Europe. The record, if i had a hi-fi includes songs from Kate Bush, Dwight Twilley, Depeche Mode, and the Moody Blues, as well as songs off the normal radar like "Evolution" from the Spainish band Mecromina and "Electrocution" by Bill Fox. There must be something in the Brooklyn water these days because they're also covering an Arthur Russell track, "Janine." About the choices, singer-guitarist Matthew [...]
