The good news is: if anyone tries to sell you Mike Watt's bass rig or Ron Asheton's guitar in the next few days, it's probably real. The bad news: it's also hot. Watt has posted the gear list on his website , along with the following details: EQUIPMENT STOLEN ON AUGUST 4, 2008 OUTSIDE THE EMBASSY SUITES HOTEL 208 SAINT ANTOINE OUEST, MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA all equipment was in a rented penske 15 foot yellow truck with u.s. (michigan) [...]
* Oh Stone Temple Pilots. When will you pack it in like you should? * Iggy Pop and the Stooges have a bunch of gear stolen....
Sadly, stories of bands having their kit nicked after gigs are all too common, but normally the victims are the sort of groups who have to hump their own stuff to the van. Last night, though, Iggy Pop and the Stooges became victim to gear-pinchers, after someone made off with their van in Montreal. Police are asking anyone offered a pair of see-through vinyl trousers and very, very sweaty guitars at a cheap price to get in touch.
June 1987 clip from Ignition , a Dischord band featuring Ian MacKaye's brother Alec on vocals. Was this one of the band's first shows ever out of town? (The link above says the band formed in spring '87.)

When talking about Nirvana's influences, Kurt Cobain once illuminated , "Punk is musical freedom. It's saying, doing and playing what you want." To elaborate, far beyond the musical genre, punk rock is all about attitude. It is a fierce rejection of every social norm and every traditional value. It is confrontational, and it is provocative. So you wanna be a punk rocker? Sneer like Lou? Shake your hips like Iggy? You don't need an instrument or any musical ability. Just listen, watch, and learn from those who own it and [...]

Iggy Pop was born as James Newell Osterberg Jr. in April of 1947. He would be known for his work with his first band The Stooges, whose influence still shakes the very foundations of modern music today. He would be known as "The Godfather of Punk" and be recognized for his on stage antics and behaviour. After the demise of The Stooges, Iggy Pop went on to pursue a solo career. He has also acted in several films including The Color of Money, Sid and Nancy, The Crow: City of Angels, Snow Day, Tank Girl , and Coffee [...]
Get Ready In Theatres: Oct 31 / EU Nov 7 / US Quantum of Solace is the 22nd film in the Bond franchise. This Bond, which will hit theaters this fall, is the first to not have been born from an Ian Fleming novel. (Actually, this isn't completely true - while the plot line is completely original, several characters and the title of the film are lifted from Fleming books.) [...]

When I saw this post on Gorilla Vs. Bear , it reminded me that a certain sPop-lovin' someone suggested I post me some Love Is All . It just so happens Love Is All is the hardest rocking sPop outfit in all of Sweden. Would any other band in Sweden cover LungLeg ?? I think, well, maybe. LungLeg do represent the (gulp) "softer side" of the whole riot grrrl thing. For downloading purposes I bring you said LungLeg cover: "Kung-Fu On The Internet" (box.net mp3) And don't forget to [...]

One evening, a few weeks ago, I was sitting at the computer working and listening to itunes in shuffle when Iggy and the Stooges came up and caught me by surprise. I hadn't listened to this record in quite some time. "Search and Destroy" came out of nowhere, and ran through me like a shot of adrenaline, just as it has repeatedly since I was a teenager and bought the LP out of the cutout bin at Streetside Records in St. Louis. After listening for a few moments, I realized I was listening to the bastardized remix that Iggy decided [...]

Fuck. It's been busy today, as my mother is staying in Santa Monica and I've been racing back and forth between Echo Park and her hotel for the last twenty-four hours. It's only going to continue tomorrow, so I cannot promise to post much in the way of invigorating, mind-expanding entries. Instead, here's a brief "Artificial Artificial Paradises" LiveJournal entry for you to enjoy. If you don't remember, I used to keep a LiveJournal (2003-2005) that basically chronicled my experiments with various substances intended to catapult normal everyday humans into hyper-aware super-apes, the kind most often referenced on Lee "Scratch" [...]

WHOA! This blog has some real devoted members! Good gracious...let me take a breath - ahhhhhhh much better. Does everybody always ignore this "Ango"? Fill me in please: is this somebody I should disrespect too? Has he been harassed his whole life for that silly name? It's staggering how silent you are. [...]
What a simple statement: Michael Clark is back in New York. It's been about ten years since we've had the pleasure of seeing the Scottish choreographer here, and based on tonight's show at the Rose Theater, it's a real shame. (For some background on Clark, check out Gia Kourlas's preview in Time Out New York . ) The first piece of the evening, OO, was set to songs by Iggy Pop (the ploddingly grandiose "Mass Production"—I'd forgotten how great it is), Wire, Barbra Streisand and the Sex Pistols; [...]

My online girlfriend is hotter than your online girlfriend Here's a shocker, "Web dating can be disappointing" . No, this isn't the latest article penned by KABC's Rick Romero , it's a story that was published this morning by News.com.au, which I imagine is the Australian equivalent of (insert name of shitty American newswire). Lucky for us, we're learning about this phenomenon now , and not a decade ago, when it might have actually been relevant. It begins, "Internet daters beware -- witty emails don't lead to love." After that, well, isn't the [...]
One year ago this week I left the East Coast for Los Angeles. It is weird to think that I have not returned home since then, not in a homesick way, but in a "Huh. I wonder what changes I would find in the city or my hometown" way. For as long as I can recall, I have been prone to daydreaming. During these past twelve months, I have often caught myself trying to picture the drives to various places I used to frequent when I was living at home. I ponder landmarks that were used to use to calculate [...]

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but this Los Angeles Times article about how a large number of Gen-X and Yers are seeing their dreams go bust reads like the handiwork of a self-satisfied Baby Boomer wagging their finger and saying, "Told ya so!" I guess I approach articles such as these with more than a hint of skepticism because statements like, "Raised amid a long stretch of financial bounty and weaned on video games, cellphones, iPods and weekends at the mall, many Generation X and Y members have barely seen a time when they [...]
