In my younger years I used to get to shows too early and had to wait around for the opening band which was a good thing because I picked up some favorite bands in the process. Well, of late, I've been rather late to shows and end up missing most of the opening act. I apologize, as a music enthusiast I should know how to schedule my time better. That being said, I did miss all but the last 30 seconds of Hollis Brown 's set. I've never seen that band before so I would have at least liked [...]

Today's Christmas song comes from a band that recently was added to the Twilight saga soundtrack and it's the third time you see this name at our posts. Actually, Sleeping at Last is at the moment a one man project by Ryan O'Neal. Every year Sleeping at Last put out a new Christmas song, adding it to the previous ones released, and compiled them in a free Christmas Sampler available at NoiseTrade, or by any price you feel it's fair to pay for. Tweet vaso link Kicking around Twitter and Facebook most of the day lends itself to, in addition to seeing a bunch of nonsense, the occasional informative link. This week, from my following Born Gold (who is playing our 3rd Birthday show in March, if you haven't seen), I saw this article on Forbes of the Best Free Albums of 2011, which led me to The Dogs. Hailing from Chicago, The Dogs' album Camping was released for [...]

Now this is more like it. Had my qualms with Common's last leak, " The Believer ," really, just because I have such high expectations for him. But now I think it's just "Raw" is more of the flavor I love from Common and really has nothing to do with the actual quality in music. Whether or not I like "The Believer," I sure have faith in what Common's all about. Common - Raw [Audio clip: view full post to listen] [...]

Yeaaa, IanJ is stereotypical college boy rap. With lyrics that mean just about as much as a college actually educates you and a style that sounds so much like Mike Posner, I'm still wondering why I posted him. But where he has his setbacks, IanJ does have a few things going for him. "Hang Over From You" has one killer beat to strobe along to with lyrics that are pretty damn catchy (can't get the chorus out of my head). His voice is very Posneresque, but he's got at least one ball hanging [...]

As inspiring as the beat is, Common & John Legend's "The Believer" doesn't inspire much in my writing. It's a solid track with beautiful vocals and well pronounced rhymes, but that's nothing new for these two. Maybe it's just my mood, I'll listen to it later, but what do y'all think? Common - The Believer ft. John Legend Common Genre: Hip-Hop Name: Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. Origin: Chicago, Illinois Common on: Twitter | [...]

I'll let Illi explain this one: We all love seeing artist work, and create their masterpieces but often times are not granted the access to see such amazing creativity come together, and become what is shared with the world.Over the past 4 months Marcus Smith followed me enough to film and study the process. This documentary is the result of that observation. The making of Inhale Pt.4: Horai.
In this week's dose of mashup from The White Panda, we get an ectrofied "Testify" mashed with Skrillex & Kaskade. I've heard quite a few electrofied remixes of RATM tracks and there still not getting old. I like how The White Panda put it, "this is how Rage would sound if they were to delve into this era of electronic dance music" today. The White Panda - Testify It (Rage Against The Machine // Kaskade // Skrillex) The White Panda [...]

Just put up Xaphoon's remix of "Marvin & Chardonnay" and now we get a mashup from The Hood Internet with instrumentals borrowed from Wolfgang Gartner's "The Way It Was." I can't quite say which I like better yet, but damn does each have a sick beat to back up Sean & Kanye. Which one do you like better? The Hood Internet - The Way Marvin Was (Big Sean x Wolfgang Gartner) The Hood Internet [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. A never before released track by Common that was thrown up on YouTube from the producer of the song, dsteele. dsteele also provides some visual stimulus that may not be all that rich, but sure is fitting. Here's what dsteele had to say about it - "From the vaults of the underground comes a never before heard tale from Chicago's Greatest Street Poet, Common. Common's graphic story comes to life with the assist from visual artist and [...]

MilkBoy Philly is a new coffeehouse/music venue/bar located at the corner of Chestnut St and 11 th St in Philadelphia, PA. As far as a music venues go (after all, that's all I care about) it works. MilkBoy Philly has a nice, lengthy space on the 2 nd floor where music artists play live. Depending on where you stand, as with all venues, and the type of music being played you can hear some decent sound in that venue. And that's what is important to me as a music enthusiast. The show was set to [...]
Its All Comedy Film Festival We'll be holding it down at Showplace Icon Theater all weekend for the Chicago Comedy Film Festival. Follow along here. Tickets still available for some movies here.

Click here to view the embedded video. Not only is this one sick ass surfer vid, but it's got one killer track to back it up. Salem's "King Night" captures the power of this GoPro array like a charm. It takes this damn decent of a shot and puts it on one holy level. Love how music can do that. Salem Members: John, Heather, Jack Location: Traverse City, MI; Chicago, IL Salem on: [...]
