Riding on a tractor of six strings, banjo samples and an extended metaphor comes Illinois , a band from Bucks County, Pennsylvania whose music conveys the Hopper/Rockwell-esque imagery of their home, a timeless place of raw emotion, where little league children still ride their bicycles in the street and the first girl you kissed is now your wife. The true history of Illinois is a mystery. What historians have pieced together is that originally, Chris "Arch" Archibald began recording ideas so he wouldn't forget them and that those ideas became songs. Illinoislore has it that Arch had [...]

I've just decided that I like bands out of Pennsylvania. Yup...just now. Before, I was more of a bands out of California kind of guy. Then I started thinking. There might be more to offer. Maybe I should embrace the...

Philly's an awfully talented place for local music these days. And as the march to SXSW begins with dozens of them playing this year SVB has decided to spotlight some of the great new ones that you should not miss - whether you're in Austin or not. This is the first of a series of these spotlights that these bands so deserve. First up is a band I'm really excited about - Illinois . Let the blog love begin, my friends. This is a band you will be salivating over more than Sufjan [...]

To keep in line with this week's SXSW theme, here are four bands that will be playing in Austin next month. Delorentos : This band describes themselves as "alternative rock," but they're definitely not The Soup Dragons. Drawing on influences like Television and Interpol, this Irish band has become one of the top unsigned bands in Ireland and are bringing the party to Austin for a pair of shows. [mp3] "Basis Of Everything" [...]

Ive got a new track from a new band to share today that I have on repeat right now. The band is "Illinois" and are one of the newest signings to Ace Fu Records . The track starts catchy enough with the line....."helllllo, all you lovely ladies" and serves as a proper introduction to a band that scratches the indie pop itch I get quite often. The bands debut EP, "What The Hell Do I Know?" is out March 6 from Ace Fu. Check out their MySpace page for tour [...]
I don't know why Britney Spears checked into rehab and don't know if Anna Nicole Smith was murdered, but I do know that while much of the pop culture world is focused on these two stories there is some music being made worth checking out! SXSW announced its official lineup yesterday and as always have some great bands lined up to play. Their official shows include Iggy Pop and the Stooges and

girl you know it's NEW. ----------------- Winterpills - " Handkerchiefs" (record out on Signature Sounds, February 27) inspired by some of the best songwriters, Winterpills' hushed soft pop is like Galaxie 500 fronted by an uncorrupted Jewel. ----------------- Illinois - " Screen door " (record out on Ace Fu March 6). a choo-choo train of happy rock. ----------------- Thomas Lunch - " Tator tots and Robots " (record out on Hi Fi Alliance, February 8) [...]

States and bands are all the rage these days (just ask Sufjan)...so it wasn't a surprise when i found out that the band Illinois isn't from Illinois at all (remember kids, the 'S' is silent), but from Pennsylvania. I am not sure if that is supposed to be ironic or not, but it matters not...as their music is really good. Digging their heals deep into indie-folk and adding splashes of pop here and there, this band is someone to watch...even if they are obsessed with the birthplace of honest Abe. They will be playing [...]

Illinois! Last night +1, Spin Magazine, Wiredset, Coors Light and Barfly turned out an awesome NY2LON party at North Six with some great bands for the last (technically) night of CMJ. I caught The Little Ones, a bit of Silversun Pickups and Illnois who I think were the best damn thing about CMJ. I love them. Should I say it again...I LOVE THEM! So, back to Illinois. Currently they have an EP out titled The Revenge of Some Kid and I don't have it YET but I could care less...I love this band. [...]

One of the more enjoyable stops on a typical internet journey in my world is Daytrotter . Just an excellent website with good stuff done by good people. The prize catch of the whole project is the Daytrotter Sessions..... artists come into their studios in Illinois and record 4 tracks just for us . Recent artists include Bonnie Price Billy, Jennifer O'Connor, Cold War Kids, The Donkeys, Two Gallants, French Kicks, Frog Eyes, Sunset Rubdown, Casiotone, and many others. Being the bonnie-o-phile that I am, the new session comes to me like an early Christmas gift. [...]

While getting all excited for the July 11 release of Sufjan's collection of Illinois extras, called Avalanche if you've been living under a fairly large heavy object, I've been playing lots of the good troubadour's music. I kept wondering where I had seen Casimir S. Pulaski before, and since I'm not a Midwesterner it's not the actual holiday associated with Mr. Pulaski. According to the good Wikipedia: Casimir Pulaski Day is a regional United States holiday celebrated on the [...]

From the press release: "Asthmatic Kitty Records has announced plans to release a new collection of songs from Sufjan Stevens, titled The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album which will hit shelves on July 25, 2006. The little secret behind the Illinois record is that it was originally conceived as a double album, culminating in a musical collage of nearly 50 songs. But as the project began to develop into an unwieldy epic, common sense weighed inâ€"as did the opinions of othersâ€"and [...]
