Tuesday, December 2, 2008 There were no comments yesterday so I'm going to assume that you're all with me and not appalled to the point of silence. Here's part two. Enjoy. - 40 Through 31 - 40) : Times New Viking - Drop Out : While I find their album to be overly loud and cluttered at times, I really love their fuzzed-out style when it's working like it is in here, where it sounds [...]

Imaad Wasif, a Vancouver native living in LA, just completed a follow up album to his self titled release back in 2006. Strange Hexes is his first with his new band, Two Part Beast, and it really pushes the listener deeeeeep down... Wasif started putting Strange Hexes into reality while he was touring in support of his debut. It's an album the explores "the depths of madness and love" and it also serves as a companion to a book of aphorisms and cipher poems, Letters of a Suicide Profiteer . Musically this unearths feelings of [...]
Forgive us for the lack of postings this morning. Most of us here at Consequence of Sound are running on only couple hours of sleep thanks to those midnight showings. But then again, can you blame us? As we pound the tea and fight off our desires to run out and go see The Dark Knight again, well that is, until later this evening, we figured we'd leave you with another edition of the Friday Mixtape. Enjoy and always make sure you let us know which songs tickle your fancy... [...]

Good god there's some shows tonight! Here in Baltimore the Ottobar has Langhorne Slim, Scruggs, and our friends The Red Vines. Over at The Talking Head Jeremy Jay performs with A Cat Called Cricket, Pepi Ginsberg, and the lovely Abby Mott opening. Right next door to that is Jay Reatard playing Sonar with Vincent Black Shado and Ratsize. In DC the Velvet Lounge has Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, Jason Simon, and The Dustys. Finally in Philly, Johnny Brenda's has Cheers Elephant, Elf Power, and Ham1 while The Fire [...]

Better than fireworks? Maybe. (N. Zinner) Kids, barbecue and fireworks displays kept me at home this Independence Day, but if I hadn't been such a dedicated homebody, I would have gotten my ass up to Denton and checked out Imaad Wasif at Hailey's. Wasif is a Canadian singer/guitarist/songwriter best known for his work with The Folk Implosion and as a touring member of Yeah Yeah Yeahs . His self released new effort, Strange Hexes , is an album that he claims, "explores the depths of madness and [...]

To be honest, I'd probably never have listened to this very worthwhile track by Imaad Wasif and Two Part Beast if not for the vaguely phallic logo adorning his shirt in this very passport-style photo. Call me a perv, but seriously, that odd doodle plastered across his chest looks something like a penile-lego or a dong-fighter jet and for whatever reason (read: pervert) it pulled me in. Curious as to what kind of artist would rock a weiner tank tee AND a mustache that delightfully pencil thin, I indulged. And was quite pleasantly surprised. It's a [...]
Imaad Wasif - Oceanic. I know that some people hate it when I talk about the weather, but I think it's important. To me, a song's strength is dependent on where I am when I listen to it, and what activities I associate it with. So as today takes a sharp jump on the thermometer, I find myself enjoying this slow burner from Imaad Wasif's latest. It wafts into my headphones like the gush of hot wind when I open my car door. It rests in the grass like my kicked-off shoes. Listen - Imaad lives here in Los Angeles,...
What do you say about Imaad Wasif ? The new album , Strange Hexes, will be out March 18th and he has added a band called Two Part Beast. This is from the press release: "He/She inhabits both sexes and perspectives at all times, channeling romantics Baudelaire and Rimbaud by way of speed freaks Bowie, Reed, Bolan and Iggy and seen through the eyes of surrealists Dali and Buñuel. The lyrical fragmentation we encounter here is akin to the absurdist methodology found in Alfred Jarry's, Visits of Love." I think that pretty says everything and really nothing at all... [...]
The Gutter Twins - "Idle Hands" (Dulli + Lanegan = Amazing) Black Mountain - "Tyrants" (Pink Rebel Sabbath Club) Grand Archives - "Torn Blue Foam Couch" (ex-Band of Horses!!!!!) Monade - "Regard" (featuring Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab) The Helio Sequence - "Keep Your Eyes Ahead" (great song but not even the best on their new CD) Say Hi - "Northwestern Girls" , "Toil and Trouble" (MySpace top 8 includes [...]
Strange Hexes on 18. maaliskuuta ilmestyvä Imaad Wasifin (Lowercase, Alaska!, The New Folk Implosion) toinen soololevy. Tällä kertaa hänen tukenaan on taustabändi Two Part Beasts , johon kuuluvat Bobb Bruno ja Adam Garcia. Itämaiset vaikutteeet ovat edelleen läsnä, mutta akustinen ja hauras laulaja-lauluntekijä-materiaa li on saanut väistyä raskaamman psykedelian tieltä. Levyn aloittava Wanderlusting on tästä hyvä esimerkki. Kappaleet: Wanderlusting [...]
