JOANNA NEWSOM @ THE EL REY TONIGHT [MP3] Joanna Newsom - Cosmia Joanna Newsom 's daring new album, Ys , is sure to be at the top of almost every bloggers year end list. I would have my blogger card revoked if I failed to mention the more than admirable 9.4 Pitchfork rating the record recieved. Joanna and her harp will be performing live tonight at the EL REY THEATRE. Drivers beware: expect throngs of spellbound people to be exiting the [...]

I'm kinda cheating here because Frou Frou was a one-album band; and Imogen has done more on her own than with said band. But then, I wanted to share the Hide and Seek string mix with you, as it puts my son to sleep almost every day for nap time. Plus, with having to remove her World Cafe session, I wanted some Imogen on my blog. Solo: Hide and Seek (string mix) Goodnight and Go Hallelujah (yes, that [...]

I think at last check "Hide and Seek" got the most plays in my iTunes. Between the studio version, the string remix and the live version below, it tallies over a hundred. But all of these of winners. I jumped up, danced a little, sat back down. Thats how Plans & Apologies starts off. Its pop you are allowed to listen to and still be cool. Its so aesthetically pleasing and structured, all while still being just a smidgen of so many genres. Its been compared to Dinosaur Jr. amoungst other similar rarities, but all I knows is its fun, light-hearted music. Their new album/EP "Wirez, Man" is a beautiful (although short at 23 minutes) collection of music. The first song, [...]

Imogen Heap - Hide And Seek (Ciaran Hamilton Strings Remix) Imogen Heap official site Imogen Heap on MySpace UPDATE: This caters to a specific subset, and is super nerdy. But still funny.

Okay, so every blog's doing it and I'm a bit behind due to hosting issues, so I have to reupload the files again for you guys...Anyway, this is a mixed treat bag, with a collection of songs ranged from electropop to indie, and their titles are all connected to the Halloween theme. Have fun listening to them, and I hope you enjoy dressing up in costumes and getting all sorts of sweets from the neighborhood, or enjoy giving candies to tooth-decay the kids, or getting wild at some extravagant adult Halloween party... I'm always interested in the fine line between what is considered musical expression and what is considered noise. I consider it a very fine line, indeed. You can point to something like Hendrix's audio pyrotechnics or the soundscapes of Trent Reznor. Some Eastern musical instruments sound like a bunch of noise to Western ears. Or you can start with something very musical, such as the human voice, and do things to it. Slow it down, speed it up. Phase shifting, compression. For example, if you utilize a vocoder, at [...]

When I first heard about the 4AD Plague Songs compilation I was very intrigued. Thier idea was to gather together 10 original recordings from various artists and present a song for each Biblical plague. (If you are unfamiliar with the plagues, you can click here and read about it from Exodous 7-12) . Anyways, the result of their project, released by 4AD records, is incredible and moving - to say the least. The genre-spreading recordings give a very unique perspective into the Biblical account from Exodous. The 10 song compilation features contributions from music [...]
As part of the Margate Exodus project this weekend, ten international singer-songwriters had each been commissioned to write and record a song inspired by one of the ten biblical plagues. Artists include Brian Eno, Scott Walker, Rufus Wainwright and Imogen Heap. You can pick up Rufus’s lament at Xolondon and Imogen down below.MP3: Imogen Heap â€" Glittering Cloud [Plague of Locusts]buy: Plague

First of all I've switched the format in which I construct my mixes. Before they were always 17 songs. A nice big prime number. And that number was chosen because, when burned to a cd, 17 songs usually maxes out the available space. I'm Dutch, hence I like to use everything you can. But, in today's modern age [where the single song download is rapidly watering down the effect of a solid album], everyone seems to have digital music players. Taking this all into consideration the mixes to follow [...]

First of all, what's 12 years old and goes in circles and circles and circles again? Under the Pink in a blender! (This is actually what Shaun texted me this morning.) Secondly, it's autumn again, which means it's time for my favorite fall album of all time-- Plaid's underrated and absolutely glorious Spokes , a tender hearted, dark little melodic milestone of Warp records, back when that meant something, that was completely maligned by the AphexSquatechrepusherTwin acolytes when it was released in [...]

For today's theme mix, I did something a little different. I got my dictionary out and opened it up to random pages and picked a word. Then, I looked through my collection for a song title that had that word in it. My inspiration for this was the scene in Say Anything when Diane tells Lloyd that she used to underline every word that she looked up in the dictionary. So, here's the most random mix I think I've ever offered up. Hope you like it! [...]
Björk I love Björk , and I am obsessed with her music. She's just wonderful. And I'm obsessed with any Björk remixes. I want to hear them all. Pagan Poetry - JC Lemay Remix. I love this remix so much. I set it as my alarm clock song, so I wake up to it pretty much every morning. Oceania - a remix/mashup featuring Kelis . Really neat... Crunky. I just found it last night. Go buy Björk & Kelis music: [...]
