I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to vocalists, the ladies just really don't do much for me. It's not that I really have anything against female singers, I just feel like most of them either sound like Hayley Williams of Paramore , or simply do not bring anything new to the table. However, there are a few lady singers that I absolutely love and Imogen Heap is definitely one of them. Although I just recently began listening to Imogen Heap, she has very quickly become one of [...]

Happy Thanksgiving! Today, I have some more mellow dubstep from a producer out of Auckland, New Zealand, named Abstrack. I love clean, heavy bass lines and Abstrack does a great job at producing them, along with the addition of some cool atmospheric textures and hard-hitting drums. These are two awesome remixes that'll satisfy your hunger for bass while you're filling up on some delicious Thanksgiving turkey! Props to my buddy Blake for these tunes! If you're anything like me, you can't get enough of dubstep . My homie cheddar and I spent about an hour listening to heavy Dub tracks. This genre has literally turned nothings into somethings, DJ's into artists and hipster dancers into crunch heads. I can't get enough myself. It's like coca cola with french fries or donuts and chocolate milk. It brings the homies and the dweebs together into a massive filthy bass fest. I am going to share with you a few of my favorites so far. If you got some [...]

It's pretty quiet here, just after noon on a rare sickday at home. The kids are at school, as they should be; the wife is off with a friend, doing some last minute shopping for Friday's opening night. One of the cats - I can never tell them apart - curls up next to me on the couch; the dog rests on the chair opposite, her eyes closed, her breathing gentle in sleep. And though the phone rings occasionally, startling in the overwhelming silence, I've turned off the music, the better to hear the rare [...]
O man have I got some Vitamins for you guys today. I decided to go on somewhat of a Dubstep binge because I've been feeling extra ragey and the result was a compilation of crunch, wobble, and a mixture of scary noises. I decided to include a mixture of well known dubsteppers with a couple up and comers so be sure to let me (and them) know what you guys think by commenting at the bottom: First up are a couple Vitamins right off of Diplo's new Dubstep comilation "Blow Your Head! Volume 1; Diplo presents Dubstep". I [...]

If you took your seat a few minutes after the metaphorical curtain went up at London's Royal Albert Hall on Guy Fawkes Night, you might be excused for thinking you'd got the date wrong. A 100 strong orchestra and choir was in full flow with a willowy, wild-haired figure resplendent in dress shirt and tails commanding the proceedings. In fact the lady wielding the baton was none other than Imogen Heap , curating her biggest and most ambitious headline show to date. So, right night after all, and fireworks still to come. This was leg seven of [...]

One of Rarities' favourite female singer-songwriters, UK-born Imogen Heap , played the Button Factory, Dublin, on Thursday 28th October. Sadly, because that was the day the twins turned one (and both my sisters celebrated their birthdays- expensive day for me!), I didnt get to the gig. Sigh... Heap is currently on LEG 7 of her Ellipse tour, which will see her take in venues across Ireland and the UK. From there, she will move on to tour the rest of Europe followed by South Africa in January and February. [...]

Chanteuse Imogen Heap played Dublin's Button Factory on Thursday night as part of her Ellipse Tour.

Afrojack has definitely been making his mark on the electronic scene this year. From Bonnaroo to the L.A. Electric Daisy Carnival , he's been hittin' people hard with his great production and better sets. The first song, "Bangduck Got It," is a new bootleg of his own with "Bangduck" and the vocals from an Angger Dimas remix of "She got it" by Vandalism. The original was already awesome, so the vocals on top make it even better! Also, you might have heard one of his newer singles, "Take Over Control," which an official video just came out for, and you [...]

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive "I'm very happy with where I am -- but I'm really getting bored to tears with the whole singer-songwriter thing," Ingrid Michaelson tells Spinner. "I've done everything I can in that realm. That's why 'Parachute' is really good for me," she says of her newly-released digital single. "It's really poppy and I don't want to say balls in an interview, but it's got more balls. It has more power. It feels good. [...]
This 2-disc compilation has recently been released in the UK. The apt timing has a lot to do with the X Factor hype, no doubt. Similar to the Live Lounge series, it's a mix of live performances and covers originally performed on Dermot's show on BBC Radio 2, with 20 tracks on each disc. There's [...]

Does this mean I've officially sold out? Another Kanye tune? I know, I know, I don't understand it either. And much less one featuring full on auto-tune? I've been pretty vocal about my dislike for this device, so to avoid being hypocritical I will point out that it's being used to in a slightly more non-traditional way (with the crazy harmonies and all that), rather than just being used by rappers who may not have a great singing voice (not hating, just stating). This tune is a rework of the (infamous?) track "Woods" from [...]

A rave is the only place where it might actually be considered cooler to dance by yourself than to dance with a partner. To be honest, I haven't been to a full-blown warehouse rave like this since I was 17 years old, and for a reason. Raves are sweaty. They're full of weird people, high on who knows what, spinning glowing things all around to music that's way too loud and all sounds the same to me. But I decided to venture out of my old-man closed-mindedness about raves to try it out once more. And it couldn't have been on [...]

Whenever I buy a new car (which is never since I'm takin' my car to 1 MILLION miles), one of the first things I like to test out is the car stereo system. Screw the gas mileage, the maintenance costs, the safety rating, etc… screw all that. It's the STEREO I'm purchasing, not the horseless carriage part of it. God has a way of understanding this issue and has commanded General Motors audio engineer Matt Kirsch to come up with the top 10 songs to test your car stereo system. Just to pad Kirsch's credentials a bit [...]
