In the last 12 hours or so, redditors have gone apey in the comments over Netherlands standup Ronald Goedemondt and his impression of the questionably self-aware, melodramatic dimwittedness of Nicolas Cage. Also, Nick Cage in a movie about chasing ghosts around a library? Greenlight that sucker! h/t 22 Words Follow @BrianAbrams

NYC comic J-L Cauvin nails the modern king of comedy in this sketch , uploaded Tuesday to his YouTube account. Not only is the impression totally on-point with Louis C.K.'s cavalier disposition and bad posture in front of the Comedy Cellar's signature brick wall, but what's icing is the idol worship that surrounds Louis every time he talks about his four-year-old asshole child. Is there anything Louis says that isn't heelarious? Apparently not. Cauvin - great job, man. h/t J-L Cauvin [...]

I can't think of one single song/performance that combines such maturity, masculinity without being macho, regality, and just downright dignified soul. Originally performed & released in 1961 by then ex-Impressions vocalist, Jerry Butler, this Mayfield-penned tune was later redone by the Impressions in 1967. Their version, with Sam Gooden taking the lead, was ALMOST as good. Before: Jerry Butler - Aware of Love (1961) After: The Impressions - Aware of Love (1967)

Video by G. The other night I saw the incredibly funny Fred Armisen in concert. It was a mix of music, videos and stand up comedy. He told the audience that he is a master of doing impersonations of accents. In fact, he encouraged the audience to request an accent and Fred would impersonate it. And it went a little something like this... [...]

Istanbul is a vibrant, busy, buzzing city. This can be seen most of all on İstiklâl Caddesi (Independence Avenue), its three kilometre long main shopping street. With more than 3 million people visit the street on a weekend day, it's never quiet. Even on weekdays, late into the evening, people were walking the street, visiting the shops and taking in the sights. [...]

"Shall I tell it like it is? Ain't none of your business... Yes it is!" An unforgettable story. Which is followed by another track from the same '69 soul gem, a great great song about that seven year itch. "I've got the girl I waited for, she's just a wife and nothing more..." The Mallu rockers brought an uninspired, borderline-embarrassing show to the Blue Frog, Mumbai last week, where we were privy to more of the frontman's bare leg than his vocal capabilities.
And another of this week's Reruns: this time it's my post about the Impressions' classic hit, "We're a Winner." http://reselect.com/2011/06/cu rtis-mayfield-the-impressions- were-a-winner/ Share This Post » Tweet Facebook LinkedIn Tumblr Stumble Digg Delicious

If you tweaked out at all while listening to Danny Brown 's XXX , SKYWLKR probably had something to do with it, along with whatever drugs you happened to be on at the time. He produced a handful of the album's best tracks ("Die Like A Rockstar," "Bruiser Brigade") and has also served up beats for the likes of Main Attrakionz , [...]
Detroit-based up-and-comer Skywlkr came through this week with Impressions, a collection of his instrumentals. These beats having been used and abused already by Danny Brown , Main Attraktionz, Boldy James , and others, there may be a slight deja vu scenario here, where you might feel as if you’ve heard them before. The drum programming is always surgically precise, as evidenced on the mid-album neck snapper “Ponzy Scheme”, the bass tends to have little trouble filling the room, as on “Bruiser Brigade”, and the aesthetic tends to favor washy, soft-focus paranoia (as on “Sephiroth”) [...]
