So it seems Erol Alkan has been a busy man this year, but especially so in these past few months. I might as well get the obvious spiel that he produced two of my favourite albums of 2008, released one of my tracks of the year in Fan Death's debut single Veronica's Veil and is still one of the best DJ's in the world out of the way, and fill non-obsessives in on what he's been up to. Firstly, there's Phantasy's latest release; Dance Area's club [...]
LCD Soundsystem - New York I Love You I *think* it's in response to a Spanish fan video which was only posted three days ago, it can be found here . Man, I love James Murphy .
Fan Death - Veronica's Veil Incredible. Purchase the 12' via Phantasy Myspace here . Purchase the mp3's at Beatport here .
Here are a few of my favourite music videos of recent times... Florence & The Machine - Dog Days Are Over The above song slash video more than affirms my slight suspicion that I haven't paid as much attention to Florence & The Machine as perhaps I ought to. I have been a fool. UK's answer to Feist ? Heiress to the thrown of Kate Bush ? I'll wait a while before passing those lazy journalistic judgements, but from what [...]

St. Albans' finest Friendly Fires have recorded their take on one of my songs of 2008 in Lykke Li's prodigious ode Little Bit as a precursor to supporting the Swedish songstress on her US tour. Just from the first listen, this really blew me away. Friendly Fires - Little Bit (Lykke Li Cover) (YSI) courtesy of Gorilla Vs. Bear . If I'm honest, it's taken me a little while to warm to their self-titled debut. Probably due to listening to their singles [...]
We fist blogged about the London/Manchester trio back in June , since then; we've seen We Have Band go from strength to strength. First off came the news that Hear It In The Cans was to feature on the institution that is Kitsuné's Maison 6 and almost simultaneously came the news that taste-makers 50 Bones were to release their debut single Oh! . Oh! is to be released on 24th of November with remixes from Yo! Majesty , The [...]
The Big Pink - Too Young To Love Not only do I love this song (as previously mentioned ), I love this video. Brilliantly shot and edited, it's The Big Pink's debut single, which will be released with previously posted Crystal Visions as the b-side through House Anxiety . They'll also be supporting TV On The Radio next month on their UK tour.
Dead Elvis Records (R.I.P.) based on Parnell Street, Dublin 1 released one of my favourite albums ever in 1994 (it was their 2nd release). The album 'The Language of Everyday Life' was produced by a short-lived Dublin combo called In Motion. They were Alan O'Boyle on guitar, John Duff on bass, Liam Ryan on drums and Alan Kelly on vocals. You'll notice how poor the production is on this the
Drifting across 6,000 grainy shots of a run down Dublin the video for 'Hollow Blow' may not have been visually striking but with a backing track this ebullient it was always destined for repeated exposure on Ireland's most progressive indie program ever 'No Disco'. In Motion were lead by Alan Kelly who seems to have gone to ground after the promise of his follow up to In Motion the Last Post. '
As spirited and downright melodic as anything to ever have come out of Labrador In Motion were a short lived Dublin band led by Alan Kelly. Signed to the legendary Dead Elvis label they only ever released one album ‘The Language Of Everyday Life’ which had a limited run of a 1000 copies. The production lacked clarity, which meant the melodies had to work hard to be heard about the fuzz.
