Filed under: Concerts and Tours Twin brothers Klive and Nigel Humberstone have been skillfully fusing electronic soundscapes and thundering militaristic percussion for three decades. Initially grouped with bands such as Joy Division , one of their key inspirations, more recently they have been embraced by the dark wave/goth community. They also do a neat sideline in soundtracking old, silent films. 2010 will be their second SXSW . Spinner caught up with the brothers recently to talk influences, Rickenbackers and their dad's link to the Beatles . [...]

In The Nursery Iskra Colin Newman Alone I stopped by the FNC last night, and nothing against the festival itself (at all!), but The All Tomorrow's Parties' movie, (contributions by Jonathan Caouette and Vincent Moon (of Blogotheque and the wildly popular Takeaway Shows )) was an abysmal train wreck. It started promising enough - the title sequence [...]
L.A. RECORD is happy to co-present (with L.A. In college, I lived on the ninth floor of a high-rise complex. It was small and it was cramped and I loved it. My room overlooked the patio below and the security lights sat underneath my window. I had Venetian blinds, and, at night, the lights outside would illuminate these blinds in a rather ominous way. It didn't bother me, but some who occasionally stayed found it to be a little creepy. I liked the ambience created by the dark glow, because the light cutting through the dark. If it rained, the mood would be even sexier . [...]

One of the more overlooked Wax Trax!/Sweatbox bands, In The Nursery are comprised of twin brothers Klive and Nigel Humberstone. They've released a ton of stuff in the nearly 30 years that they have been around, but my favorite has always been the pre-1990 releases. This song is an demo from the 1986 "Sonority" 123 that was found on an outtakes cassette. One thing that I found interesting is that despite constantly playing live since 1981, they have never played a show in the US. Download: In The Nursery - Deus Ex Machina (Demo)

10 songs without any relation between each other and barely connected through melancholy, deceit and violence. In the nursery - hallucinations? Jessica bailiff) (Dead Weight, 2006) Pram - the pawnbroker (Dark Island, 2003) Sol Seppy - injoy (the bells of 1 2, 2006) Ani Difranco - nicotine [...]
