Obsessive, eccentric, indulgent - it's easy to give Porland-based PARENTHETICAL GIRLS various attributes but it's kind of hard to define what the group around mastermind Zac Pennington actually is. It's pop basically - but in a very exciting way. With the intelligent and uncompromising songs of their latest longplayer Privilege the band is about to hit The post Win tickets for Parenthetical Girls appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .

Brutal fuzz rock from Odonis Odonis ' new EP 'Better', available from Buzz Records on April 16. The Toronto trio barrel themselves through their latest single 'Intelligence' and leave the surf rock stylings of their previous LP 'Hollandaze' in a dimly lit corner. Odonis Odonis - 'Intelligence' [...]
It's definitely the year for heavier-handed rock n' roll to break back through into the mindset of indie fans everywhere. There's Milk Music and Metz , but now you can enjoy Odonis Odonis . The group releases their Better EP on April 16th via Buzz Records , before they blast off on a tour that includes a date at Austin Psych Fest . This song has a swirling guitar part that's emphasized by some industrial drumming; the lyrics don't come across [...]

by Tiana Feng Still have some more CMW posts to come but I thought I needed to post this new Odonis Odonis tune. Fuzzy and moody it definitely demonstrates that the band can move past their surfegazey Hollandaze .

I really dug Restraint , released last year by Orca Team . Unfortunately, as things go, Orca Team took a hiatus not long after the album was released. Now front-man Leif Anders (who has also joined The Intelligence) is back with a new project, a somewhat Seattle underground power group featuring members of Orca Team, The Intelligence, The Torn ACLs and Health Problems. That band is called Week of Wonders . The newly formed band has been busy. Already, they've posted a five-song EP on bandcamp called [...]

The punk orders a beer. The slacker, this being Washington, lights up a spliff. Wimps order a pizza, get on the bar, do a big shoe dance and then on their way out knock over the row of Harley's outside. All is fine and nobody gets their lights punched out because even though they call themselves Wimps their kinda tough in a not so tough kind of way. They've also got some street cred having hung out with the Intelligence , Partman Parthorse and Meth Teet h to name just [...]

Intro by Fense: Each year I look forward to posting Nate's top album picks. First, he uses phrases like "silly-good." But it's mostly because he always has a different perspective, sometimes finding obscure items to drop in or checking out albums I wanted to hear but didn't have a change to for some reason or another, other times dropping in albums from genres I typically ignore (um... hip hop). This year he went one step further and gave us his top 15 local songs as well. (BONUS!!!) Read on and let us know your favorite pick of 2012! [...]

Here's the list of my favorite albums outside of Seattle for 2012. You may think it's late, but you should know I got it done before the Russian New Year. Kevin Shields, you still have a few more days. 1. Exlovers - exlovers ( Young And Lost Club ) Exlovers had my favorite single of 2011 and now my favorite record of 2012. Their debut album is a dreampop masterpiece that was a long time coming from this London band. [...]

by Bill Pearis The Intelligence just debuted the video for their track "Hippy Provider" from this year's terrific Everybody's Got it Easy But Me (stream it at Spotify ). The clip features a sweet '80s-style Fisher all-in-one stereo system (that goes well with the "Freedom Rock" referencing lyric) and the sunny skies of Los Angeles where main brain Lars Finberg resides these days when not on the road. You can watch it below. As [...]

Presenting songs from their newest release on In the Red records, the Intelligence played the Empty Bottle on Tuesday Oct. 10 with Chicago’s local punk talents Party Bat and Coffin Pricks . Despite missing the usual drummer of the band, Party Bat swooped in to open up the night. The bass player took over the drums and the frustration from the lineup switch seemed to propel the party through the usual sounds of heavy riffs and crashing drums. Party Bat is like having Halloween all [...]
Intelligence Everybody’s Got It Easy but Me In the Red The Intelligence's latest release is like going home with your totally adorable crush. It starts when the two of you make out under a streetlight while walking home. Your whole body tingles with anticipation. It's so hot, and exactly what you've been wanting; you may lose it and drop your pants right there. But you put your boner on hold and think about how awesome a proper session is going to be. [...]

gina clyne For much of the last decade, Lars Finberg was the Intelligence, a scraggly one-man garage group born in Seattle. Herds of band members came and went as Finberg handled the auteurial duties, writing and recording the band’s first several records himself. But steadily, if slowly, the Intelligence have grown—from a man to a band, from lo-fi snarl to shimmering studio recordings, and from prolific to premeditated. In 2011 Finberg won the annual Genius Award by The Stranger , a weekly paper in his former home town. After the Intelligence’s most recent [...]

Even those students of music's most obscure acts may be woefully unaware of Seattle darkwave act Cinema 90. That’s not surprising, though, considering the little known duo came and went in 1984 with but one song to their name: “In Ultra-Violet” . Despite only appearing on the Seattle Syndrome compilation, the song’s minimalist, dark dance vibes earned it its own fanbase. That includes San Francisco electronic indie outfit Maus Haus , who has dusted off the track and given it brand new life 30 years after its debut. Much of the danciness of [...]
