Over the past few years plenty of bands have broken up or called it quits. Of all the bands that have done so, there is only one that I can say I was legitimately sad to hear about: Voxtrot. That music soundtracked hundreds of college memories and their songs are scattered across countless mix CDs I have laying around. Luckily, when young band members move on it often means another band begins. This is the case with International Waters fronted by Mitch Calvert of Voxtrot. Their tag on bandcamp is 'jangle pop' which sounds about right. You can [...]

International Waters is an indiepop band from Austin, Texas, led by Mitch Calvert , formerly of Voxtrot . They have recently released their debut-album "19943. You can listen to the whole album on the band's Bandcamp -page. The band lists artists like Felt, Aztec Camera, The Smiths, Orange Juice, Girls and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart as references of their sound.
Here's the found-footage style reel for International Waters' "Green Lights Forever," an Atlas Sound-y dream-pop jam from the band's debut album, 1994 . The Austin act was my favorite discovery of SXSW 2010; if there's any justice, they'll be playing one of those Strokes-style headline gigs next year. Stream/buy the album after the jump. 1994 by International Waters

Rising from the ashes of Voxtrot, Austin's International Waters is building speed on the strength of their just-released full-length, curiously entitled, 1994 . The video for Green Lights is kinda all over the map, but the song suggests that 1994 is a record to be hunted down and digested at length. "1994," the lead track from International Waters' summer-due debut album, finds the band taking a detour from their athletic guitar-pop. Instead, the song opens with Broadcast synthesizers before launching into a reverb-lined pop paradise, all split-toned vocals and cymbal crashes as gentle as a lover's touch. It takes a few spins to absorb the production, but the Austin band's melodies waste no time signing a month-to-month lease on your short-term memory. So, a fine new direction and a welcome preview of a long-awaited release. More to come, I'm sure. Previously: International Waters at the Echoplex | [...]

Music Induced Euphoria interviews International Waters

All photos by David Greenwald As they did at SXSW, Austin, Texas, act International Waters were on-point at the Echoplex last month. The angular indie-pop band sounded as sharp on a bigger stage as they did at Plush in March, tearing through a sweet 'n' sour set with a bunch of new songs and should-be-hits such as "Olympia." More photos after the jump. International Waters - "Olympia" : [...]

International Waters are a jangly indie-pop band based in Austin, TX led by Mitch Calvert (of my beloved Voxtrot). They've recently completed a 10" EP and will be recording their first full length this summer. It's funny that their myspace states they sound like "post-partum depression." Those liars. It's nothing like post-partum depression, or maybe post-partum depression should sound this good! It's more like the "kaleidoscope of pop music" like their influences. Check out a little sample below: International Water - Flashes (mp3) (buy)

Newly prolific Rawkblog favorites International Waters pay tribute to their hero and mine, Rose Melberg , with an instrumental song in homage to The Softies' own vocals-free excursions. Photo by David Greenwald Heaven's seen some better days. International Waters' latest single shares the title line of The Radio Dept.'s jam-of-the-year frontrunner "Heaven's On Fire" - and a similarly warm place in my heart. Even moreso than their Rawkblog-premiered 73 debut , this is the kind of sound the band showcased at SXSW: The Sea and Cake with edge, Felt re-imagined for 2010. The band's debut EP, It Felt Like , is due in July with a full-length hopefully on the way by the end of the year, and they'll be in [...]

International Waters From: Austin, Texas, United States International Waters are a jangly indie-pop outfit from Austin, Texas led by Voxtrot's Mitch Calvert. They're old school indie, like a faded postcard from another era that reminds you of an old friend that you've lost touch with. Well it's time to get reacquainted with their recently completed 10" EP, the Felt like 'It [...]
At least for us east coast peeps, it looks as if summer has officially arrived. The temperature is crackin' 80, the humidity is already driving us nuts, and free shows are now a plenty. As always, included below is a mix of the week's best new singles, remixes, and covers along with mp3s from some up-and-comers you just might want to check [...]
