Along with a lot of excellent new EPs and singles, this year has seen the official release of Light Asylum 's In Tension , our favorite EP of 2010 . I should also mention Arthur Russell 's outstanding Let's Go Swimming 12", which got reissued with a previously unreleased bonus track. As for this year's releases, these are some of our favorites: Holy Other : With U Laurel Halo : Hour Logic Maria Minerva : Sacred [...]

Sure, a top songs list can never not be subjective, but these selections meant the most to us over the year of 2011. The following tracks brought every minute of joy to a new high, and every moment of heartache a bit of solace. These are the songs that kept us writing throughout the year, that brought us out to shows, lead us to meet so many wonderful people, and most importantly soundtracked a year of unforgettable memories. Pending the arrival of any global calamity, looking back at the songs of 2011 only builds our excitement to see what 2012 [...]

In a Hole is an epic, slow house jam, which moves along at it's own haunting pace. Invisible Conga People make use of pitched down vocals, akin to The Knife, with a steady DFA beat submerged underneath. This is one of those songs which you can get completely lost in.

[ DFA ] ( buy vinyl ) ( buy mp3s ) In the three years since their debut single for Italians Do It Better, New York duo Invisible Conga People have managed to put their name to only two remixes. This is a lengthy sabbatical in the contemporary climate, especially for a project with such an alluring sound, and it's always surprising when a group with such potential (and high connections) disappears. The duo play a distinctive brand of analog pop - their sound nods to lethargic disco, latter-day Can, and the [...]

Invisible Conga People's new track "Can't Feel My Knees" is a bare electronic track made for some heavy thinking on night-time drives. It's repeating two chord pattern bares similarities to a stripped down version of LCD's "All My Friends", which would make sense seeing that the track is due to come out on Murphy's DFA label on May 2nd. The track washes over you and immediately you feel calm... Check out the stream from Pitchfork below-

Mp3: Invisible Conga People - Can't Feel My Knees (Dub mix)
In 2008 Invisible Conga People cut a fantastic 123 for Mike Simonetti's Italians Do It Better label fronted by "Cable Dazed," a mesmerizing minimalist dance track unspooling over six minutes of witchy kraut throb. Some years and a label later they return with a new 123 for DFA titled "In A Hole" b/w "Can't Feel My Knees" (with a bonus dub of each). This is good news, because Invisible Conga People remain capable of making good music. DFA's releasing the record on 5/5, and has posted up its first sounds via one of their "White Out" sessions, wherein a camera's [...]

The latest addition to Italians Do It Better 's already stellar roster of cosmic disco prodigies is NYC's Invisible Conga People . The New York duo list Can, Ethiopiques, Fela Kuti, and Les Rallizes Denudes amongst their influences on myspace, but first single "Cable Dazed" is a hazy number that recalls some of the more sinister, icier jams on the Knife 's "haunted house" masterpiece Silent Shout. Rolling and melodic it is absolutely mesmerising and arguably the the best crossover tune of last year, making both the Pitchfork top 50 and resident advisor top 20 tunes of [...]

Simon James and Dan Hastie (aka Woolfy vs Projections ) have crafted one smooth-arse album. The Astral Projections of Starlight released through Permanent Vacation last year creates a very satisfying blend of down-tempo electronica and washed out sounds with a disco-inspired rhythm section. While the album as a whole isn’t entirely successful there is no denying its high-points, particularly the track ‘ Starlight ’. I can’t help but feel like there is a definite Happy Monday’s influence to this track. Anyway, listen to it and decide for yourself. I’ve also thrown in an Invisible [...]

Invisible Conga People - Cable Dazed (MP3) Here at Best Foot Forward, we don't like to stick with the crowd, who ramp up their output for end of year lists. We're much happier to take December off, as no doubt evidenced from recent postings. Lazy? Us? No: we just balk in the face of convention. But you know, if all those lists are out there. It would be rude not to take a gander. Yer Mam are working their way through 100 tracks and [...]

( photo ) Since hearing his haunted cover of Burial 's " Archangel ," I've made it a habit to hit up Banjo or Freakout 's blog on a regular basis. He continues to drop daily gems over there, including this killer cover of Invisible Conga People 's " Cable Dazed ." Banjo or Freakout lifts the darkly thrilling original version up into a murky, almost unrecognizable haze, eventually allowing it to dissolve altogether into the ether. Both jams, however, make for essential early A.M. listening: mp3: [...]
