Watch out for her! Laleh Pourkarim is an Iranian-Swedish singer-songwriter. She came to Sweden when she was 1 year old and went to school in Angered, Gothenburg. Before that she had lived in Azerbaijan and Minsk, Belarus. She personally produced and wrote her 2005 self-titled debut album, in which she sang in three different languages: English, Swedish and Persian. At the Swedish Grammis Awards for 2005, she received seven nominations and won three: Artist of the Year, Producer of the Year, and New Artist of the Year. The following year her second album Prinsessor was released. [...]

The news is fucking depressing isn't it ? Cuts, cuts and yet more cuts and then when you think it can't possibly get any worse you observe the ghastly school matronly visage of The Daily Heil's Obergruppenführer, Melanie Phillips on BBC's Question Time, blithely lecturing us about what is right - "We should lay off the bankers, I really don't approve of this lynch mob mentality at all, instead it is right and correct to attack the real enemy within, I refer of course to the "undeserving poor". [...]

Kourosh Yaegmaei: Back From The Brink Imagine being banned from performing or releasing music, owning "Western" instruments or even using your own image, for 17 years (and to have that ban restored after a partial lifting of 8 years). Or to sit on your album for 20 years, waiting for a change of heart by the state censors. Kourosh Yaegmaei might have left Iran like many of his peers following the establishment of an Islamic [...]
![[pc2011-12] Alphaxone – Portal](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3760612_lg.jpg)
Alphaxone is an Iranian project that focus on dark ambient sounds with careful arrangements and distinct dynamics. Portal glows in a gloomy tone with dissonant and dissolving harmonics, but without being overwhelmed and dragged into an abyss of noise. Clearly, IX, the mind behind Alphaxone, strikes a balance between the cause and inspiration and the technical means to expression. Rather unusual for dark ambient, there is a clear architecture, a common thread that unites all parts of the album. Circular thoughts from a different angle, with no sign of change, but many ways of describing a key moment in life. [...]
Finders Keepers compiles an album by one of Iran's most important exports Googoosh.

After the Iranian Revolution in 1979, pop music's future seemed dark because of new Islamic laws and restrictions, and many musicians migrated to foreign countries. Raks Raks Raks: 27 Golden Garage Psych Nuggets from the Iranian 60s Scene ("Dance! Dance! Dance!") hearkens back to a pre-Revolutionary time, before making music was all but forbidden. It was around the 50s and early 60s when the "Sultan of Pop" Viguen Derderian - considered by some to be the Persian Elvis - became one of the first musicians in Iran to perform with a guitar, [...]

McClatchy Newspapers (MCT) -- Once upon a time, rock 'n' roll was outlaw music. In Iran it still is. In "No One Knows About Persian Cats," songwriters Ashkan (Ashkan Koshanejad) and Negar (Negar Shaghaghi) are kept busy dodging the morals police and official red tape in a dogged effort to get their rock band out of Iran and to a long-planned gig in London. Ashkan just ended a jail term for playing sinful music. While he was inside, his...

What's that? You're not into Iranian post-punk? Well, that might change once you get a good listen to The Yellow Dogs , one of the leading band's in Iran's hidden music scene. The group is about to release their In the Kennel EP on May 17th of this year, and it's been a long time coming. While they may not have the government's support, the band has had to rely upon word of mouth to spread their tunes. This new track from the four-song EP definitely has a nice [...]

The images and video coming out of the Middle East are stunning and shocking. The successful revolution in Egypt is spreading rapidly. Just view some of the images below and get involved. Get the word out: History is taking place before our very eyes! These demonstrators need our help. At the very least, you can join Twitter and send messages to those putting their lives on the line for liberty and a better life. For instance, this gentlemen in Bahrain writes on his Twitter page : Going to #lulu [...]

What we're witnessing in the world is quite amazing. Tunisia and Egypt are simply the beginning, it seems, as people around the world have become fed up with their respective regimes and have stopped being scared. Bahrain , Libya , Yemen , and Iran are seeing large scale demonstrations never seen before. Throw in the unrest that grows in countries like Sudan and the Ivory Coast, and we're witnessing something that has spread almost in viral fashion. That said, I've run into many people here in the US that seem just as [...]

Hailing from Iran, Ali Payami is a relative unknown but is starting to make his first breakthrough in the EDM world. The Sweden-born Persian DJ has just come out with a nice little track called Cillan . It's a techy tune with house and trance components that make it neither overwhelming nor underpowered. If you are looking for a harder, yet more uplifting version of the original, just check out Damian William's remix. The remix builds up towards a climax and then releases to a heavy and oh-so-satisfying drop with heavy electro influence. [...]

That maFIFA boss Fatt Bladder did his best to stop these files from being leaked (he tried to sit on me) but the truth will out ! Now for the first time anywhere... not really ...some information has reached us about various international teams that would like it if you didn't hear the following songs. In truth you yourself would probably like it if you didn't hear them either. Or read the following text. We first start with a serious note... [...]
