Welcome to the first Gimme Noise mixtape of the new year! As usual, we're offering up 8 new songs from Twin Cities rappers for your listening pleasure.Stream below or download here.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Tobias Isaksson might not have the biggest name recognition here in the United States, but he's been plying his trade in pop songwriting for some time with his former bands Irene and Laurel Music . His debut record for the excellent Matinee Recordings is titled Rule of Thirds playfully maneuvers back and forth between traditional new wave and modern electro-pop, [...]

Ep.507 - Guns N' Roses @ Bridgestone Arena - Nashville, TN 12-4-11 Guns N' Roses Video Concert Reviews - Nashville, TN For those of you who went to see Guns N' Roses at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Sunday, you're probably like me…wishing it was last Friday again. This time last week, I had no idea what I was in for. Sure, I was pumped when we finally had the tickets in hand, but I didn't realize that Axl was going to put on a three-hour performance packed with pyro [...]

Ep. 502 - The Cordovas @ 3rd and Lindsley - Nashville, TN 11-8-11 Video Concert Reviews - The Cordovas The Cordovas show fell smack-dab in the middle of CMA Awards Week, but I'd be damned if I didn't show my run-ragged face at 3 rd & Lindsley for the final concert of the band's tour. We were first turned onto the group over the summer, before they were "The Cordovas " actually. While tirelessly editing videos during CMA Fest week, we watched an interview with [...]
For me, it's been a great week, seeing the triumphant return of probably the best small label out there. Matinee Recordings had a silent summer, but they're back, and their roster now includes Azure Blue . The group is primarily the project of Tobias Isakkson, who played prominent roles with Irene and Laurel Music . Matinee will be releasing Rule of Thirds this December, and the band is already getting comparisons to groups such as OMD and [...]

We are pleased to announce that our good friend Martin Sexton will be joining us at the benefit this Sunday to help raise money for Hurricane Irene Flood Relief in Vermont. We are very excited to have an opportunity to play with Martin, and are very happy to have his support in our fundraising efforts. Stay tuned for more benefit related announcements. John Mayer loves Martin. I'm guessing that John's mother's relationship with Cat may have helped make this happen.
I drank more beers than I can count on both hands last night. And then capped it off with an assortment of drugs and a half-pint of bourbon. Somehow San Francisco's PreTeen's delightfully disparate pop sound helps take the edge off the light creeping in through my makeshift curtains. Somehow PreTeen's melodic bass back-end applies [...]

Phish has just posted a note on their official website thanking dozens of companies that helped them throw Wednesday's benefit for Vermont Flood Relief Efforts and also mentioned that the show in Essex Junction raised in excess of $1.2 million (!!) for the cause. Keep in mind that it will take years to rebuild everything that was damaged by the remnants of Hurricane Irene, so individuals can still donate to The Waterwheel Foundation . Be sure to specify that you would like your contribution [...]

Ep.482 - Classixx (Girls & Boys Nashville) @ Cannery Ballroom - Nashville, TN 9-9-11 Girls & Boys Nashville Presents Classixx Video Review Classixx @ Cannery Ballroom - Nashville, TN This show kind of came out of nowhere. Since seeing Classixx open for Chromeo at SXSW this year, I've been keeping an eye out for a mention of the DJ-ing duo coming to town. It was only a matter of time, since I knew the manager at Mercy Lounge/Cannery Ballroom had been dying to get them into [...]

Irene knocked out my power for a full seven days. This meant a week of roaming between relatives' houses and walking to Starbucks for Internet access. My family and friends are safe, for which I am thankful, but that didn't stop me from hating the Long Island Power Authority as much as the Taliban for a week. I don't know how Hempstead was affected by the Hurricane or if Roc Marciano was even home last week (his Twitter suggests he wasn't), but I can easily tie this track's beautiful David Axelrod loop to my week long sojourn in [...]

Tanlines @ SXSW 2010 ( more by Dominick Mastrangelo ) As they promised they would try , MoMA has extended Warm Up @ PS1 one extra week to make up for this past weekend's cancellation. The remaining schedule now looks like this: September 3 (2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) Horse Meat Disco / Strut / London, UK Midnight Magic / Midnight Sun / New York, NY Justin Miller / DFA / New York, NY [...]

The artist-centric New York City may have been spared the brunt of Hurricane Irene's destruction, but the storm did seem to wreak havoc on weekend plans. A definite benefit: musicians cooped up in their digs, pondering the approaching apocalypse, hopefully making some music, right? That was certainly the case with Ryan Daniels AKA Double Entendre , who emailed me this morning about the existence of a new EP, born as Daniels sought shelter from the storm. "The Calm" and "Rain Shields," in particular, may well be Daniels' best work to date. The former is an [...]

Irene hit the east coast hard. Not nearly as bad as scientists and meteorologists predicted, but I can't say I don't feel bad for it not hitting Florida. Hope all of our PB&J fans are well. All three of these tracks get a √+. I've been waiting for a tune up of "You're In My Heart" [...]
Irene set us back a couple days (no power til Wednesday? Yikes), so it's only fitting to ask for the lights back in style. Lights Please has been my favorite J. Cole track since I first heard it on The Warm Up mixtape, and it was recently announced that it would also have a spot [...]

Bars and businesses were expecting the wrath of God but got rained out instead. Designer and Whiskerino artist extraordinaire Tim McSweeney sent us this closed sign from Brooklyn . No it doesn't match the creativity of the Best Wet Paint Sign in NYC or the randomness of the No Tweekers Sign , it does, however, get the point across. New Yorkers were not impressed with the storm. • • • •
