Irene are an upfront and unpretentious pop band, so I'm going to skip the usual girlpants storytelling tomfoolery and just get to the meat of this here post. Despite their benign, midwestern American sounding name (makes me think of Colleen, but she's totally different), they're from Sweden. Like many of their countrypersons, they've mastered the art of simple jangly pop (I'm looking at you, Jens Lekman) with gratuitous handclaps and a second helping of acoustic jangle at no extra charge. The day I visit Labrador and am not surprised and delighted by the music they're releasing will be the day I hang it up. Labrador is the 100 pound gorilla in the Swedish indie pop space. I'm not sure if they sell a lot of records or make a lot of money but they pretty consistently find some of the best Swedish acts (at least those with the trademark "Labrador sound").
