Articulos relacionados: [...]

Memphis' own Fast Planet demonstrated their graceful mastery of ambient pop with this summer's debut, Jes . The record showed the band's ability to play their chosen genre as up-tempo head-nodder or dreamily mellow, and pull off both with dexterity. Their cover of Iron & Wine' s "Naked As We Came" off the folk singer's sophomore album, Our Endless Numbered Days , shows how the quartet can maintain that balance even when the song isn't their own. The original "Naked As We Came" is, itself, a fairly [...]

The art of the remix is by no means a new one. Remixing has been around for longer than you probably realize. There's record of remixing as far back as the 10th century, when priests composing Gregorian Chant would 'quote' melodic lines and even lyrics from other works. Keep in mind that this is a full 11 centuries before technology gave every Frank and Sally the ability to chop up their favorite track and proclaim it a remix. Remixing is nothing new, but that doesn't mean it's getting old. Some of the best tracks in recent memory have [...]
How time flies! It was about 18 months ago now that we collected an epic selection of our favorite opening lines in music , and we've been meaning to get around to closing lines ever since. There are plenty of candidates for such honors as far as films and books go, but surprisingly few for music — it's a more difficult exercise than it looks, perhaps because heaps of songs end with multiple renditions of the chorus rather than a punchy parting shot. Still, we've put together a bumper selection: 50 of the best. We'd also love to hear [...]
Now clean and sober, Justin Soileau is creating music that ebbs and flows sweetly.

Happy festival weekend! It's odd to write that in mid-September, but it's true! Not only is there the bigger and bolder Riot Fest (check out our full preview with staff picks here ), lest we forget The Hideout Block Party+ AV Fest . But there's more like Roach Beach at Ultra Lounge and Lightning Bolt at the Empty Bottle. So, let's stop wasting time and get it on... FRIDAY [...]
Ah, my favorite weekend of the year is upon us once again. After a rigorous summer of music festivals, there's nothing finer than winding down in the parking lot normally reserved for the city's dump trucks at the cozy confines of the Hideout Block Party. In it's sixteenth year, the Hideout Block party has expanded to two days and combined forces with the Onion's A.V. Fest to deliver one of its most impressive lineups ever. 1. Original post: The Hideout Block Party [...]

As I mentioned in my recent review of the Newport Folk Festival, one of my standout moments came during Iron & Wine's set, when Sam Beam and his folk-rock ensemble busted out a sublime cover of Long Black Veil. The song, which was written by Danny Dill and Marijohn Wilkin and originally recorded in 1959 by Lefty Frizzell, has been covered numerous times over the years, but is arguably most famously associated with two acts - The Band, who included it on their debut album Music From Big Pink and country [...]
