The music world lost a vastly influential icon yesterday with the passing of Grammy-and-Oscar-winning soul maestro Isaac Hayes at age 65. From honing his chops at Stax Records as part of the legendary session band there to scoring one of the most indelible and recognizable - and all around awesome - film scores with Shaft to later reintroducing his unmistakeable baritone to an entirely new generation as Chef on South Park , Hayes' artistic reach and talents simply cannot be overstated. Enjoy the following selection of videos as we salute a legend... [...]
Our condolences to the family and friends of the late, great, Isaac Hayes, who will fondly be remembered and immortalized for Shaft, Chef and many other great accomplishments in his 65 years.

Yesterday, the world lost a musical treasure in ISAAC HAYES , who passed away in his Tennessee home at the age of 65. During his life, Hayes enjoyed a successful career as songwriter, producer, musician, actor, and voice-over artist. Hayes got his start as a songwriter for Stax in 1962 with friend David Porter , and penned tunes for Carla Thomas , The Astors , and many hits for the R&B duo Sam & Dave . Later in the decade he launched his own solo career with albums such as 1967's [...]
We lost two giants of entertainment this week. Comedian Bernie Mac passed away on Saturday, August 9, at age 50, due to complications from pneumonia. He first became popular as a stand up comedian in Chicago, and then became nationally known on HBO's Def Comedy Jam . He eventually branched out into movies and television, having memorable roles in Ocean's Eleven and Charlie's Angels , and won an Emmy award in 2002 for outstanding writing for The Bernie Mac Show . One of his [...]
The Stranded in Stereo Blog survived all week without any responsible adults around. I'd like to thank our loyal readers for allowing be to be a full-time bad-influence on their behavior. That said, on with the slander! Soul singer Isaac Hayes died over the weekend at the age of 65 of an apparent stroke while running on a treadmill. In the terminology of Scientology, his personal belief system has gone [...]

To celebrate the life and times of soul legend and South Park voice man Hip Hop Is Read have put together a selection of Hip Hop joints influenced and sampling the late Mr. Hayes. Go to their blog to read up on the thought behind it. Seems like they were waiting for man to pass away, that or this was a hasty job! Young MC's 'Know How' could have been on here as one of the more well known Hayes-sampling tracks but all in all it's pretty good! Click here to download [...]

17 Seconds is deeply sorry to hear of the death of Isaac Hayes at 65. He was famous as a musician, actor and humanitarian. He laid much of the pioneering groundwork for music, and his influence can be felt on Soul, Funk, Disco, Hip-Hop and House. Born on August 20, 1942 in Covington, Tennessee, he was raised by his grandparents after the early death of his parents. In the sixties he worked for Stax Records as a as a session player and songwriter. Amongst the songs he wrote included 'Soul Man' and 'Hold On I'm Coming' [...]
I'm not even going to start wailing about time again; instead, I'm just gonna post some stuff that's been swirling around my mind for the last few weeks. Thanks to all the suppliers... you know who you are!!! :) You probably already heard about Keane 's new song that has been made available for free. If not, you can still get it here . It certainly is a step back into the 80s, but not a bad one in my humble opinion. Album is scheduled for later this [...]
...shut your mouth. To mark Isaac Hayes' death on August 10 ten days short of his 66th birthday, here is a mix I've called Hot Buttered Symphonies, a selection of some of those epics, mostly cover versions, Hayes produced in the early parts of his career, from 1969 to 1973. He is best known, of course, for the Theme from Shaft, a funk masterpiece which provided the pun in this post's title. It

Visiting the official Isaac Hayes site right now is a fairly spooky thing. As of this moment (2:28 am on Monday, August 11), the site not only hasn't been edited to reflect ex-Chef's death , but just one click beyond the opening splash page defaults to a smiling pop-up photo of Hayes with Samuel Jackson and . . . Bernie Mac. The group shot isn't completely random: Hayes appears as himself in the upcoming comedy Soul Men , which stars Mac and Jackson. But of course, [...]

Kurva hommiku-uudisena selgus, et eile lahkus meie hulgast taevastele lavadele legendaarne Isaac Hayes, kes pikaajalisest ja teenekast muusikukarjäärist hoolimata on enim tuntud ilmselt siiski South Parki Chefile tolle mahlaka hääle andjana. Mäletame, vaatame ja kuulame.

Isaac Hayes died Sunday, August 10, ten days shy of his 66th birthday. He was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The the first non-acting African-American to win an Oscar, and a threetime Grammy winner. As much as anyone, Isaac Hayes, with his unique, near spoken-word bass vocals and penchant for extended cuts, was responsible for the late sixties success of Memphis, Tennessee-based Stax Records. Besides recording the classic albums Shaft , The Isaac Hayes Movement and Hayes' personal favorite, Hot Buttered Soul, for the label, the man often called [...]
