Adam Smith, a 21-year old UK-based producer, releases his debut full length Islands . The entire 8-track release is great (we've had it on rotation at b3sci HQ much of the day) but our pick from the mix is the beautifully kinetic, neatly atmosphered title track. Listen. Inspired by the return of one of my favorite TV shows, the hyper self-aware Community (whose Abed could be considered the patron saint of meta-humor) and the self-referring "Simple Song" on the new Shins album out this week, I've made a mix of my favorite meta-referential songs. By this I mean songs that include specific references to themselves in the lyrics (stuff like "it goes like this, the fourth, the fifth...", "take it to the chorus" and "Second verse, same as the first verse" are out). It turns out there are a [...]
All week we've been counting down the days to Ultra by compiling a list of some of the biggest songs from last year's festival. So far we've rehashed massive tracks by Mark Knight , Dirty South , and Michael Woods , and with just two days to go, we've got a track of epic proportions to help kick things into overdrive. Despite being released in 2010, Steve Angello, AN21, and Max Vangeli's remix of Pendulum's "The Island" is still one of our favorite productions to date. The infectious vocals and unforgettable drop earned this [...]

I make no apologies for saying that this guy is one of the most amazing producers I've ever come cross. His beats are psychodealic, mellow, so perfectly crafted and original, every release the guy comes out with just blows my mind. It's quite difficult to explain, he still works with the fundamental principles of Hip-Hop production i.e. loops and nice drums but they are selected and flipped in such a way that they sound like nothing else. Very nice. Oh and actually one of the tracks on here, 'Easy On Yourself', was used for the WIB Compilation dropped [...]

![[Review/Listen] – Islands – “A Sleep & A Forgetting”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4126369_lg.jpg)
Islands are a very adaptable group, the band are a chameleon and have proved that they can blend in to any genre with ease and without any fan questioning it. Let’s forget that Islands’ roots came from a world of masterful precious indie-pop and created the gem “Return to the Sea” for a second. Other than that they released “Arm’s Way” , an underrated attempt at a rock album, and “Vapours” , an isolated attempt at bedroom synth pop. So after such varied albums, what would be the next step? A folk album? [...]

In probably the most exciting news i've heard today (Kony, phhfft) defunct nu-wavers Le Tigre are set to release an EP of vintage live recordings. If you're still scratching your head as to who exactly Le Tigre are spare some brainpower and watch the fan video below of their irresistible hit "Deceptacon" (that'll probably make you want to dance). The live recordings are circa 2004-2005 when the band was touring to celebrate the release of the last effort 'The Island'. Tracklisting [...]

Formed in Montreal in 2005, Islands (@nickfromislands) offers up their fourth studio release with A Sleep & A Forgetting. The latest project from Canadian songwriter Nicholas Thorburn, Islands has not only been critically acclaimed for their studio work, but also their live performances, at times leading the audience out into the street after a show a la Pied Piper. Thorburn, who sometimes performs as “Nick Diamonds”, has been fronting bands since the early 2000s, and we’ve seen him go through a few evolutions as a songwriter and bandleader. [...]

Dine Alone Impressing with a live show is one thing, but eliciting a similar positive response with a record, away from the energy the crowd and the volume of the PA, can be a good deal tougher. Vancouver's Chains Of Love nailed the former and then some at NXNE last year , but despite one of the most impressive things about the show being that they obviously had good songs to go along with their crackling Motown-friendly, garage-soul sound and onstage charisma, I didn't immediately assume that their debut album - whenever it arrived [...]
