High time for some more recent stuff around here. Got Is Growing Faith a tad too late for my end of year list, but otherwise White Fence's second outing could have been a contender. Fingerlickin' lofi jangle that alternately took me back to Alex Chilton, Skip Spence, Syd Barrett, and a plethora of bands on New Zealand's famed Flying Nun label. Grow faith, y'all. And then there's Israel Nash Gripka, whose Barn Doors And Concrete Floors I haven't even fully digested yet. I do know that standout track Louisiana is one tough piece of [...]
I'm not doing a "regular" top-list. I already made a top50 for my norwegian blog, and the selections just make me want to go hide in the forest until the new year is official and no-one cares about these lists anymore. SO - what I'm doing for Ninebullets is picking some of my favorite albums among the more unknown artists out there... Obviously I loved Isbells "Here We Rest", Adams "Ashes & Fire", Gillians "The Harrow and The Harvest" and even Paul Simons beautiful "So Beautiful Or So What". But I also loved these albums, [...]
Thank god the heat is starting to subside around here, if i have to listen to another person complain about the temperature i think i'm going to snap... it's not that bad... relax. Sorry thought that it needed to be said. Anyways here's a few songs: . Phineas and the Lonely Leaves- The Feeling . [...]

Record store day. if you get it, you get it. Here's a great performance made by Israel Nash Gripka, promoting his astonishing album " Barn Doors and Concrete Floors ", outside the famous record store Popeye (in Hengelo, The Netherlands). It reminded me a little on that classic take where Springsteen stopped for a while on the streets of Copenhagen. A rising star. no doubt, Gripka ! There are three parts on youtube, this is the first part: Thank you to the one that recorded [...]

Israel Nash Gripka - Barn Doors & Concrete Floors Israel Nash Gripka's sophomore record Barn Doors & Concrete Floors is named after the rustic rock tone of its songs as much as it is the setting of its recording (an actual barn in the Catskills). Gripka says he wanted to record in a studio that wasn't a studio to capture "sounds no other place could create. One listen to this record draws easy comparisons to Ryan Adams and Neil Young while also [...]
Today's alliterative installment of Weekend YouTube will take a look at a few videos from artists I've reviewed recently on the site. The videos are for songs I didn't share the first time around to give you a deeper feel for some of these albums. I featured Nashville's Caitlin Rose last month . This is the title track from her new CD Own Side Now . Israel Nash Gripka's new release Barn Doors & Concrete Floors was featured yesterday . [...]

From his début album Bricks - Israel Nash Gripka [...]

May Day is an interesting date in the calendar (besides being a long weekend for us Brits) and according to wiki celebrations hold no bounds, regardless of your creed or homeland - " it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations, regardless of the locally prevalent political or religious establishment" translated - an excuse for a piss up. [...]

The biggest bands in the world have a concept to promote their tour. U2 did Zoo TV and the 360 Tour , the Rolling Stones had A Bigger Bang ; so when Americana singer-songwriter Israel Nash Gripka and indie garage rockers The Fieros began planning their U.S. jaunt, they decided to be candid and "Sing For Their Supper." In March, the artists will set sail from New York City to the southern United States, stopping along the [...]

Just a small update today with a quick look at the album New York Town by songwriter Israel Nash Gripka . I'm a little late on this one seeing as how it's been out since the spring, but I just discovered it recently and have been enjoying it quite a bit lately. Better late than never, I'm told. Most reviews of this record that I've read point out a similarity to Gold era Ryan Adams. The cover photo even heavily recalls Adams' "New York, [...]

Wrapping stories in threads of song, New Yorker Israel Nash Gripka tells sonic tales on guitar and harmonica with a Counting Crows vibe, heavily influenced by CCR and John Cougar Mellencamp. Evening reminds me of Mellencamp's Pink Houses. It takes its time unrolling a heartfelt ballad filled with ironic hopefulness and disappointment.
