Ne’Astra Music is proud to announce the release of Evolution, the new Slum Village album, available at all retailers worldwide on June 25, 2013. Evolution is the long-anticipated release coming on the heels of the critically acclaimed mix tapes “Dirty Slums” and “Dirty Slums 2.” This album features new music from founding member T3 along with Young RJ and Illa J. The first single “Forever” has already been released digitally. The track’s musings on the natural drift of relationships over time delivers a vibe that’s a cut above. The group was founded in the [...]

If The xx started making bangers, they'd probably sound something like this new remix from Ta-ku. While countless club tracks are packed tight with the highest density of sounds possible, Ta-ku leaves this one with plenty of room to breathe. He's got a point too, because against all logic, the beat bumps so hard that it'll crack open your energy drink for you. The vocals of The Presets' Julian Hamilton have been twisted and ripped apart by the Perth producer. They writhe unnaturally alongside purposeful percussion that's sharp up top and thunderous down below. That is, until a [...]

North Londoner X¥Z recently dropped his Solace EP, 20 minutes of atmospheric, blissed out electronic music inspired by the likes of J Dilla & Four Tet which is consistently good from start to finish. I think this is the first time in a long time where I've struggled picking my favourite cuts to feature, so I thouroughly recommend heading over to Bandcamp and stream this thing from back to front. Don't Say No. by X¥Z [...]

No need to caption this bomb. J Dilla , RIP, was a legend who needs no introduction. The master of the MPC gets busy on his remake of 1979’s Gary Numan hit “Cars”, which he titles “Trucks”.

You know what time it is, folks. The Hip-Hop Dojo is back for its fifth installment. Typically, we try to separate the playlist based on certain themes or sounds, but this week's crop is our largest and most unique ever, making it tough to group everything together, but we tried our best. There is one pervasive idea that seems to shine throughout a majority of this playlist though, which is "keeping it real." This week's edition is a revival of sorts, featuring plenty of industry veterans, and a few names you probably haven't heard in quite awhile. We [...]

Quiet since their debut in 2011, Gorilla Warfare Tactics , a trio of NYU students (still in school!), released the "drugDILLA," the first from the upcoming Zoology mixtape at the end of April (which you'll be sure to grab here). Clever, precise, and free-flowing, "drugDILLA" is as good as any track that references the Detroit great should be. Check it out below and grab Zoology April 30.

Slum Village , the group which once counted the late J Dilla as a member, are set to to release a new album, Evolution , this June, and they'll be kicking off an international tour this week in support of it. That tour hits NYC on April 30 at Santos Party House . The show is looking pretty solid, with music by Mick Boogie and DJ Martin , and performances by Tanya Morgan and Skyzoo , in addition to The Action Figures, Citi Lightz, and Singapore Kane [...]
I just love when new Dilla get unearthed. #RIPJDilla. "J Dilla recorded “Trucks” in December 2001-February 2002 at Studio A, Detroit, MI. An unmastered MP3 version which leaked in 2008 has been heard by countless Dilla followers. This is the first time the mixed & mastered track has been heard. It was just released on J Dilla’s “Anthem” 12-inch , the first official release from J Dilla’s long lost vocal album, The Diary , coming next year on PayJay Productions". The post J Dilla - Tricks appeared first on [...]

The late J Dilla has a new album of unreleased material coming this spring, featuring Madlib, Pete Rock, Nottz, House Shoes, Karriem Riggins, and more. You've already heard the lead single "Anthem", now check out its B-side "Trucks", a blown-out, tricked-out version of the Gary Numan new wave classic "Cars". Dilla doesn't use his vehicle so much as an escape, but rather a place to sip Belvedere and flash 203 chrome rims and, really, to each his own. Stream the track below (via SPIN ). [...]

"Trucks" produced by J Dilla, mixed and mastered from the original 2-inch tape. 12-inch clear vinyl out now Pay Jay Productions, followed in 2013 by the long-lost album THE DIARY. rappcats.com/shop/jdilla-anthe m/

PayJay Productions released a 123 vinyl earlier this week featuring J Dilla 's long-lost " Anthem ," and today, we get to hear the single's B-side. "Trucks" is, as Spin so eloquently put it, a "gangstafied Gary Numan tribute" that has been around for a while but only seeing an official release now. The Diary , a posthumous album that showcases Dilla rapping as opposed to producing, will feature him rhyming over beats from Pete Rock, Nottz, Madlib, and others. The two tracks on the 123, however, were both produced by J Dilla. [...]

This week sees the release of a posthumous 123 from the late J Dilla , coming out via Pay Jay. Lead cut 'Anthem' and this new track 'Trucks' will precede the long-awaited "lost" vocal album The Diary , set to drop later this year. Having already shared 'Anthem', it's now the turn of it's b-side to air online. Recorded around 2001/2002, the track samples and, err, changes the words of Gary Numan 's famous hit 'Cars'. Seems like it's not only Battles boosting Numan's rep [...]

Word to Gary Numan ! This self-produced J. Dilla solo cut was recorded for his vocal hip-hop album, The Diary . It was made from a two-track demo mix and completed by long-time LA Dilla engineer, Dave Cooley . The Diary drops later this year on PayJay records. Get more info via Nah Right where I swiped this from.

Like plenty of other posthumously released J Dilla material, I'm sure some of you have heard his Gary Numan-flipping "Trucks" previously. But it's only just now seeing a proper release as the B-side to single " Anthem ", which will appear on his vocal album The Diary . For those who haven't heard "Trucks", it's a grimy, synth-driven hedonistic banger dedicated to "bitches" and chrome-outfitted rides. Play this one loud, y'all. Stream the song below and cop the "Anthem" single here . [ via ] RELATED: The 12 [...]

I don't know what to think of all these posthumous J Dilla releases, but perhaps one worth being excited about is the materialization of the instrumentals from Rebirth of Detroit . The original album sported features from Danny Brown, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson and more, but it also felt a tad disorganized. Luckily, though, we get to break free from the raps and focus in on some additional beats from the late Detroit great. The instrumental vinyl version of Rebirth of Detroit is set to drop April 23 via Ruff Draft, and can be pre-ordered [...]
