What a weird, weird afternoon. Here's what's swirling between my ears: Twink "Pussy Cat" from The Broken Record Now, Now Every Children "Cars" from Cars Volcano Choir "Islands, IS" from Unmap (Bon Iver side project) TV On The Radio "Mr Grieves" (The Pixies) from Young Liars The Breeders "Do You Love Me Now Jr." (feat. J Mascis) from Divine Hammer EP [...]

When in doubt: Minutemen. That's a personal code and I'm passing it along to you free of charge. Don't forget it. Etch it in your brain. Not many people got a code to live by anymore. To that end, I've found that playing Double Nickels On The Dime at least once a month is an excellent way to combat the effects of suburbansuckrockitosis. And if you're older than 35, doubling your dosage is highly recommended. However, before you start cueing up Double Nickels ... [...]

After Sunday's Dinosaur Jr. post , I decided I needed to start listening to J Mascis and the Fog again. As I mentioned in the post, J Mascis and the Fog served as my introduction to musician J Mascis , and then to Dinosaur Jr. Fortunately, I was able to track down a really sick version of one of my favorite songs from the band on YouTube. Ammaring can be found on the J Mascis and The Fog debut release More Light; The album was one of the musical projects Mascis devoted his time [...]

When you think of Playboy's target demographic, do Dinosaur Jr. fans come to mind? Well, maybe. Anyway, the reunited trio sat down for a performance and chat piece for a new feature on Playboy.com . The guys discuss their unanimous love and respect for The Cure, which was already evident in their monstrous cover of The Cure's classic "Just Like Heaven" two decades ago. J, Lou, and Murph talk up Robert Smith's weird wardrobe and mad ping pong skills before launching into an acoustic version of the aforementioned tune. This interpretation differs wildly from both the original and Dinosaur [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , Between the Notes , Canada To mark the launch of Spinner Canada, we're doing an in-depth series on the Canadian indie music scene that has taken the world by storm in recent years. In Part I , we explored the foundation laid for Canada's music scene in the 1980s and '90s. This week, we examine this decade's explosion, beginning with Toronto and continuing in Montreal, with Calgary's Feist making an appearance in a post all her own. Next week, Part III looks towards the [...]

There are numerous ways to approach discussing Dinosaur Jr.'s latest, Farm , but how it relates to musical trends in 2009 is not one of them. It's been 24 years since the first Dinosaur release and another 15 years since the post-Nirvana alternative boom gave them their last real "hit," the song "Feel the Pain". Most likely you were either drawn in during the original J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph days or the subsequent early 90's incarnation that actually got a few videos on MTV. So, it's album number [...]

Welcome to July, you filthy animals! Here's your daily dose of mindless gossip, unsubstantiated rumors, and shameless Schadenfreude . J. Mascis can shred... on his skateboard . Run-DMC are being honored with a street naming in Hollis, Queens. Usher 's wife was surprised when her husband filed for divorce . The Flaming Lips are enlisting help from MGMT and Karen O on their upcoming double album, Embryonic . [...]
Then it happens. Lou accidentally steps on Murph's glasses. The crowd changes after that. It's as if their own glasses were stepped on and they see this show differently now, as an opportunity to transcend. Sure enough, an 11-year-old is hoisted over what was previously a pretty calm crowd and is happily tossed around. Then an older guy starts crowd-surfing, and another. When J. peels into the opening for "Freak Scene," the transformation is suddenly complete. Years melt away from the crowd as formerly civil looking loos stop politely sipping their beers and start running towards a swirling chasm of [...]
Dinosaur Jr.'s "Over It" video from their new record Farm features some neat tricks and funny stunt-double shots. According to a Pitchfork interview with the director, the Daffy shot with Mike Watt in the background is actually J. Mascis, who if you think about it and/or take one look at him, is quite obviously a competent skateboarder. Hi, I'm Matt. I blog here sometimes.

why does lou always look like he'd rather be somewhere else? this is not as awesome as i was hoping it would be, but i am sure its going to grow on me. when i say this, i mean the new dinosaur jr track "i want you to know" from their forthcoming jagjaguwar release, farm . i want you to know Tags: dinosaur jr , farm , i want you to know , j mascis , lou barlow , murph

I have no idea what that headline means ... I just like how it sounds. I'm definitely not insinuating that Dinosaur Jr. is kicking back on Farm , the band's upcoming platter (out June 23 on Jagjaguwar ). I have a good feeling about it, actually. The band just released the first single "I Want You To Know" and ... well, it sounds like Dinosaur Jr. Crisp, crunchy guitars, ratatat drums and an unabashed, ripping lead by J Mascis . It's extra special because all the pieces are again [...]

This continues in the series of what I did at SXSW this year, and you can find the original, if nearly identical post here . Additionally, check out BVaz's much more in-depth take on Friday as well. Ok. Following what I saw Friday afternoon , Ben Jill and I got a quick dinner of some tacos and went out to Cedar Street Courtyard relatively early to get in line because a) we didn't have wristbands or laminates (which meant we would be let in behind every single person who had one of those two), and [...]
In honor of seeing J Mascis do his thing at SXSW on both Thursday AND Friday I figured I would do a throwback to his completely ridiculous "golfing in NYC" video for "Feel The Pain" that Spike Jonze did when I was in high school. The guy in the cart with J most of the time is former bassist Mike Johnson who was essentially the touring bassist from the time the original lineup broke up until the end of Dinosaur Jr. the first time (pre-reunion). It is a classic and brings back the memories, [...]

Well after they cut Department of Eagles (with Victoria Legrand from Beach House - foreshadowing, people) off promptly at 6 right when they were in the middle of a jam out we poured out onto 6th street ready to try and tackle a night showcase. There were actually a ton of good ones this night, any of which I would have been more than happy with, but there was certainly one I had my eye on from several months back, that being the Cedar Street Courtyard showcase which had a killer lineup. So in the interest of trying [...]

Well after a rousing good time with No Age to finish off the afternoon Jill and I grabbed some roadside tacos (yes, tacos for lunch and dinner, deal with it) and ventured out into Austin in search of what showcase to hit for the evening. Upon perusing our ghetto ass printed schedules (side note: apparently you can't get the SXSW schedule book without a badge, psssh) we determined we were going to try to go to the Sub Pop showcase at Radio Room. Now this was our first ever foray [...]

Dinosaur Jr. have released a few details about their forthcoming album, ' Farm '. The album, and follow-up to 2007's ' Beyond ', is due out June 23. The forthcoming album was produced by band member J Mascis and will feature 11 tracks. Dinosaur Jr Tracklisting: 'Pieces' 'I Want You To Know' 'Ocean In The Way' 'Plans' 'Your Weather' 'Over It' [...]
La formazione più celebre dei Dinosaur Jr con J Mascis, Lou Barlow e Murph torna con un nuovo album ------
I'm excited for this record. John Agnello just finished the Sonic Youth record as well. J. Mascis will be played in a movie someday by Judah Friedlander.
