Happy Monday. In 2006, back when the world wasn't halfway down the shitter already, J. Rocc went out to Japan to DJ a store-opening for Supreme. This mix was part of a limited edition CD that the company pressed up for the event, and now it's yours. Classic breaks and soul samples from songs by Jay-Z, Cormega and Shirley Bassey covering The Doors' "Light My Fire." This should at least get you through the morning. I've always been a fan of sample-based hip-hop; Public Enemy, Cut Chemist and the massively underrated Onra were all mainstays on my CD changer (remember those!). It's no surprise then that I'm so massively excited about Stones Throw 's announcement that they'll be releasing the J Rocc 's debut LP on April 5. Though he's been producing and working for almost 20 years now, this will be his first LP of original tunes under the J Rocc name.
